I genuinely had no idea Padraig Amond scored 37 goals last season. :eyes:

That is a huge, huge loss. Why did they not even bother negotiating!? :ffs:
It was Amond who did not try negotiating, not Hurst.

Delighted for Dayle to get his chance in the league. He's a good lad who always looked decent in his games here but with the desperation to get promoted he never got the opportunities he needed to progress. I don't know how he'll do, I imagine he's still raw, but I hope he does well. Wycombe have signed a player with a hint of potential. I'd love to see him fulfill it.
Do you think he can make the jump into League 2? Sorry to say i have never heard of him but he must be better than the 2 old carthorses we have up front Hayes and Thompson.

Looks like Nelson is off to Barnsley. They've offered him a deal, we'll get compensation, but it won't be much. So its looking like him and Hartley both gone. So far we have a squad of Sawyer, Carey, Jervis, Songo'o, Donaldson and Connor Smith.

Some interesting comments (well, interesting if you support Luton!) from our manager this morning.

- new signings in by Monday
- wants "four or five" new signings, all are close to done
- wants all our business done before we go away for pre-season
- his fabled squad of 20 does not include goalkeepers, so will actually be 22 in total
- it does however include a handful of development players; from this interview, Jones suggested that Musonda, Justin, Bakinson and Banton were included in the count.

By my reckoning we have 18 players so far including those ones, although Green is long-term injured so maybe 17 - so Jones can do his maths at least! Two keepers in the "four or five" new signings presumably, Glen Rea, then hopefully sort the midfield out a bit.

EDIT - missed Sheehan out of my count as he isn't listed on Wiki. So we actually have 18/19 players already. Maybe an outgoing still to come then (Doyle?).

I think the jump from Conf North to League 2 is pretty big, I actually reckon it's probably too soon for him. I've not seen him during his time at Boston barring some clips, it looks like his finishing is excellent but he was never very physical. Given some space he'll make something happen but he may be found out if he gets crowded. It'll depend who he's next too I'd imagine. I really hope he does well but I can't see him hitting the ground running. Over 2 years though you may get enough out of him to see the potential he's got.

In an interview, Paul Hurst has said that Amond never responded to the deadline for the contract he was offered. Never tried to negotiate. Same with Nathan Arnold. Also said he had long talks with Toto after the Halifax match and about the prospect of a new contract. Sounded genuinely disappointed that we've lost him, but that it was inevitable. This element of disapointment was missing when discussing Amond. Sounded like the contract offered at Christmas last season to Amond was to tie him down over the transfer window, but he now points to his rather less impressive League Two record as a reason he was only offered a one year deal.

Couldn't decide whether he was bluffing when Matt Dean asked him about Ben Davies either..."Ben Davies, the Portsmouth full back? He's a very good player, but he was their player of the year wasn't he?"

Michael Doyle was our player of the season.

Really hope I'm wrong but after a bit of detective work I'm convinced that the midfielder is more than likely Kane Ferdinand. No thanks.
Davis once again making the mistake of thinking just playing games makes you experienced. If it is Ferdinand, he doesn't look to solve any of the issues we have in that midfield area. And hey, the last player we signed that used to play for Dag & Red worked out well right?

Southwell's also spent a bit of time out injured, which makes his 54 in 2 season even more impressive. Missed 2 months this season and about the same last season, too (dodgy ankle IIRC).

Even if it doesn't pan out at FL level, the amount of goals he scored in the North will give him a safety net and they'll be NL Clubs sniffing.

Ferdinand once had potential, but it's worth noting that John Still said he had character issues when he dropped from Peterborough to a loan spell with Luton (who were in the Conference at the time). No surprise as soon as Still went down to Dagenham his contract was terminated. He's the sort of player we need to be avoiding rather than giving a 2 year contract to when it's inevitable he'll do a Bingham seeing as Davis can't get the best out of troublesome players.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I can't see anyone with a similar background to Ferdinand who we could realistically afford. He's played 142 league games from tiers 2-5, he's 23 and he's without a club. Just over two-thirds of his appearances have been at this level but he hasn't looked the same player he did when he left Southend for a six figure fee.

Blackpool have offered a contract to Andy Taylor. We offered him a 1 year deal but they offered two years + league 2 football where he will play more games.

He'll be a very good left back in League 2 if he has protection, his legs went last season.

I've seen Mike Jones play a few times and I like him, granted this was a few years ago, but still I'm pleased with this signing. He's a better standard than our current central midfield players.

Jack Marriott extends his contract at Luton. Yea, not a transfer, but we haven't had one in a while.

Glad he's here for another two years. Top scorer last season, will only get better.

Considering Gooch has signed a professional contract and we already have Craig King, I can see us only bringing in the one keeper. Not saying I agree with it, but I suspect Jones believes Gooch and King can cover the reserve keeper role between them. See us signing Rea, the keeper from Brighton on Loan and two midfielders. Probably Pigott too.

He may prove me wrong, and I hope he does, but to me he does seem to draw a few comparisons with another of our ex-players Daryl Clare who was prolific at non-league level but never really made it in the league.

I might be wrong, but if Jones was intending for King and/or Gooch to be a part of the first team squad, surely he would have name checked one or both when he was specifically listing which youth players he was thinking of as being part of his first team group?

Also, I may be misunderstanding but do the new loan rules not allow a parent club to recall a goalkeeper at any time with a few days notice, even if on a season-long deal? If that is the case, it would be very, very dangerous to start the season with our only senior keeper being a loan player.

I assume we still have the option of a further year until 2019 too, as was announced when he signed an improved deal last season:
http://www.lutontown.co.uk/news/article/jack-marriott-signs-new-extended-contract-2643841.aspx

Great to have him tied down for the foreseeable, if he carries on his rate of progress like last season he'll be our next big money sale.

Im not clear on the loan rules either. However I'd be surprised if we had 4 keepers on professional contracts. Would you go to a club that already had 3 professional keepers on the books?

Well two of them are kids who have played zero first team football. I don't think them being on pro deals means all that much. Gooch being the younger of the two I would expect to still be playing with the youth team, King maybe a loan out but who knows?

What we do know is that Jones had originally intended to give Justham a new contract and still sign another goalkeeper to be the new first choice (implying Justham would be back-up/rotation in addition to the youngsters). Justham only left because he decided he didn't want to spend another season as second choice, so that to me suggests that Jones does not believe King or Gooch are ready for the role as primary back-up just yet.

We've signed Drew Talbot on a 2 year deal. Was released by Chesterfield.

Ooh I like Drew. Really, really hardworking. Dropped back to right back (I think) from being a striker.

It was mentioned somewhere that we were in for Danny Ward, who's currently in France for Wales. If he was away on international duty, we'd need suitable backup.

Has he forgotten about Alex Atkinson, because taking the two young keepers out, that is the whole development squad with pro contracts. We have 15 senior pros (14 if you take out Danny Green) plus the 5 senior outfield development players.

Busy few days coming up at Luton Town - signings, pre-season training starting, fixtures coming out today, new kit by Friday and possibly a planning application imminent for our stadium.

A lot of Oldham fans didn't want him released. If he plays lot his potential then you've got a very good player, especially for that level.

Mike is a centre midfielder with a decent shot. Good passer, gets around the pitch. Crawley fans hated him for a long time when he played for us (couple of seasons ago).
Oddly he didn't score his first goal of the season for us until the very last match and it may have been against Carlisle.
He was a decent player.I haven't seen much of him for a while but I'd say he will be a good addition to your squad.

Seems Ben Davies is close to signing, 35 but still evidently a very good player.

His wife is a Grimsby fan as luck would have it.

We paid £100K for him in our League One promotion season from Bury, one of the strangest signings in the last 10 years. Played about 10 games then was sold to Crawley 5 months later. From what I saw of him he was used out wide and actually looked pretty decent, had a good delivery on him and hardly gave the ball away. Expect that's a solid signing for your level.

He's a class act. Won majority of fan awards last season and was our stand out performer for me. Runs none stop comfortable on the ball and loves bombing forward. Easy 8 or 9 every game.

As said above though
if it's contract length that is the sticking point then fair play to those in charge refreshing to see them sticking to short contract offers for what could be a big risk fitness wise.
