Look, everyone's getting carried away here.

Signing new players doesn't mean anything, it doesn't mean we will win the league the playoffs or get relegated. Sides can have great players and not gel then do rubbish.

Yes, I'm pleased we've made the signings we've had, but ANY seasoned Mansfield fan will always take the cautious approach first. I've supported Mansfield for 19 years - of which 1 - yes 1 - has been spend in league 1. For me, getting to 50 points and seeing what's what will be my priority, simple.

I counted 11 Rhead punts. Also, that is an insane amount of goals from corners (or maybe its that we've scored from about 5 corners in two seasons).
We currently blessed with a) good set piece takers Habergham and Arnold and b) two centre backs who are very good in the air in both boxes, they got 15 between them. On top of that they combined superbly to score the winner at Burnley.
Thought most teams in the lower leagues got their goals from restarts in play like corners, throw ins and free kicks?

I know it's not even June yet, but Mansfield's business is very impressive and makes me fancy them for a top 7 if not a real go at an automatic spot next season, what's that 11 players out and 11 in that are all seemingly top players for this level? Will Atkinson played 37 games for a Southend team that just missed out on the play offs in League One, can't be signing for peanuts surely.

Most sides are going to be quite small, if you take out all your tall players.
In the Alexander days we used to have at least two thirds of our players well over 6ft tall. Beevers was one of the shortest at 6ft2. The old "Land of the Giants" quote was regularly used by bitter opposition managers who had just been outbattled by a bunch of non-league misfits.

Less regularly used after playoff matches.

Mansfield Town congratulations on your League 2 title victory 2018.

We bow down to your greatness!
Who's stating we will win the league??
I don't read any fellow stag bleating out dominance?.. I'm stating we will have a good chance or at least be contenders, who can deny we have been a number for far too long not to enjoy our chairmans investments for our beloved club!.

42 years supported, i vaguely remember the one and only one division 2 season (now championship) just enjoy the events at Mansfield because I tell thee, I've not had a better feeling about the club for more than 30 years than what I do today, we've been a football league member longer than most, our time is coming to enjoy a flirt with the higher leagues, that I can tell yer!

Very rarely does signing 10+ players before the end of May work out. It only achieves you a huge budget as at this point, players probably have a lot of options/have a higher asking rate. Come the end of June, they start to panic.

We signed about 15 in the conference and won it.

i would gladly swap places with Mansfield. They have signed a lot of League one regulars who have dropped a division, i'd snap your hand off for at least 5 of the signings.
The only thing that bugs me is Fatty. basically unless he has money his record is average as per last season, hated him at Rovrum and expect my disdain for the obnoxious cretin to surface again come August. Oh actually it never went away !

Nope, it's not you, we seemed to score tonnes in comparison to previous seasons! Out of the 110 or so goals we scored this season, I'd say about 30 from corners and 10 from free-kicks.

Haha!

I know what he's trying to say. For whatever reason, some managers, the losing ones funnily enough, reckoned we were a tall side when in the main we only had 3 - Waterfall, Raggett and Rhead.

The likes of Wood, Arnold, Power, Woodyard, Knott, Whitehouse, Muldoon etc aren't particularly tall. Our midfield 4 at times last season would struggle to reach over 6' on average. Cowley teams are generally been on the small side.

Barrow, Dover and Eastleigh - now they were tall sides!

To be fair, Evans' record since he took over in November (especially since January) with a modest budget is very good. He took a poor side to the brink of the playoffs.

Evans use to do a fantastic job with Crawley before the money rolled in.

He's actually a good manager, just a knobhead.

You know what I mean! We are labelled a very big side when in all honesty we don't have that many tall players. We are however very good at scoring from set pieces which is down to good planning and work on the training ground.

Their budget certainly is. Probably top 1.

There will be teams with bigger budgets than us. But I expect ours is top 5.

8 players from league one, 1 from the conference, 1 from league two and 1 from the conference. Plus last years lot, I imagine wages will be even, some on less some on more than average for league two.

Lincoln need to face reality and stop crying about money, and that is Cowley is super inexperienced and I think will find league two a lot harder than last year. You'll need a lot of new faces because quite a lot in your squad have already proved not good enough for league football.

I've already said that I have no idea what this is in aid of or why you're spending so much money just to get into League One, but you're going to be promoted. The players are one thing but you've also got Evans who, whilst clearly a massive penis, pretty much guarantees promotion when you give him the biggest budget in the league. It's all a bit weird, but might as well enjoy it.

You've obviously got the biggest budget in the league, top five is nonsense. Ours is 6th/7th and you're operating in a completely different ball park at the minute.

Thanks for that insight. I think it's generally accepted that when you get promoted, the league above is harder...

Farman - Never played in the FL
Long - Circa 15 FL appearances
Raggett - Never played in the FL
Waterfall - Circa 15 FL appearances
Habergham - Never played in the FL
Woodyard - Circa 10 FL appearances
Whitehouse - Circa 25 FL appearances
Arnold - Hasn't played in the FL since your relegation season 10 or so years ago?
Rhead - Circa 80 appearances in the FL

Probably pushing it to say 'quite a lot' have proved not good enough. Most of the above appearances came years ago as youth player type age and dropped down into NL to get games.

Rhead's probably the only one that close to your theory in that respect, but I don't know how you played him in the FL and whether or not he was a starter or tonnes of 10 minutes sub appearances.

Will Atkinson a sound signing for Mansfield. I preferred him on the right to centre mid. Doesn't really do alot in CM but great workrate, always puts a shift in. Sad to lose him but his place in the side was a huge doubt this coming season with Right Wing being our priority, that, with an increase in money and a guaranteed start at Mansfield I can see why he has left us.

We will find out if we have the biggest budget when the list comes out, I actually doubt it will be top though, defiantly top 5 and almost likely top three.

Ya can't make out it's going to be the biggest budget in May.

I doubt County will be in the top six, Hardy is full of shit.

A list doesn't come out, does it? I can't think of anyone that could conceivably come close, to be honest. Maybe Luton or Swindon or someone, but I doubt it.

Hardy's not particularly rich (by football club owning standards, anyway) but we should be around 6th/7th biggest just on the strength of our crowds. In fact, we'll almost definitely be higher in the average attendance table than the playing budget table. Does this mean we can claim to be well run!?!

Evans is a very good manager tbf, give him a decent budget and he's virtually guaranteed to get you up there challenging. You don't get all the promotions he has without being pretty damn good.

A mate of mine met him in the bar at our place a few years back, said he actually comes across as a pretty decent bloke off the pitch.

What was annoying back then was him and Raynor's cuntish behaviour on the touchline, not sure if they've cleaned up their act since but back then it was an utter disgrace.

Luton, Swindon or Coventry. Think we'll probably match or surpass Luton and Swindon but don't know about Coventry.

Fair play to Mansfield for getting a good experienced manager like Evans and not the usual cheap dross they would end up with like Paul Cox, I can't stand Cox's interviews on Radio Cumbria right after a Barrow match whist I'm waiting for Curle to do his interview. The guy bores people to death and his interviews go on for ages!

Will Atkinson was a jack of all trades master of none when he was with us in L2 - a good utility player but one you couldn't nail down to a specific position and for that reason an out and out centre mid or winger would for us at least often get the nod in front of him
