How do Cambridge have £500k to spend on 1 player?
Yes it has. We used a third of it to do ground improvements, a third to improve the first team budget immediately (as the squad wasn't great when we drew with Man U - we finished 19th) and the remaining third was to provide us with cash flow which meant we didn't have to offer things like the early bird scheme to fund us through the summer. We were really hand and mouth before hand - the funds were mainly used to increase long term profitability which we're now benefitting from as the net effect is it has increased our team budget for every year.By getting a mil for Berry.
The FA Cup money hasn't all been spent yet has it?
Alex Woodyard being tracked by Villa and Bolton apparently.
Rumours that Lincoln are after signing the entire Tranmere Rovers team as every Tranmere player is better than every player of Lincoln's, Belmont said so.......Alex Woodyard being tracked by Villa and Bolton apparently.
I don't think he's ever lumped it to Rhead.
That's ok fella you underestimate us like the vast majority of the conference and 4 of our 5 cup league sides did too.Not to worry, plenty other lads left to lump it to Rheady
Any player worth £500,000 is unlikely to want to play in the basement. Plus at that price he would be expecting at least £3k a week salary. How
How do Cambridge have £500k to spend on 1 player?
Jez George is denying we've had any bids for Berry but I personally think he'll be off by the start of the new season. Rumours are we'll get 7 figures, therefore spending half on the fee for a good striker wouldn't be extravagant.
I'm guessing that "not many" is in fact zero?It would still be extraordinarily extravagant. I wonder how many times a League Two club has paid £500k for a single player in all of history? Not many if any I would wager.
We've only paid that for a player once in my lifetime and we were in the Championship at the time (and had just sold multiple millions of pounds worth of players). Don't think we'd be capable of spending more than £150-200k on a single player even with player sales these days, it's massively unrealistic to expect/hope to put 50% of a once-every-few-years big money fee back in to a single player.
New signing or two expected today (one signed Friday to be revealed apparently).
Callum Guy apparently done on loan from Derby, was very good when we had him last season before his injury ended the season. Be a great signing at this level and his engine is immense (ideal replacement for Foley). Didn't think we'd be able to get him back as was talk of him breaking into Derby side so if comes off will be delighted.
Maynard was at VP Friday too so that may be close too. Crewe also allegedly interested although we should beat them from a wage point of view he may want to go back where it started for him.
Eagles back from holiday and apparently ready to sign a new deal which would be decent business if we get them three in the ranks (and add Tyler Walker).
A good friend of mine plays 6 a side with him regularly and knows him well.WHere did you get that figure from
Anybody who has properly watched Rhead over the years will realise that the big fella is just as capable with his feet as he is with his head.
Only the ignorant think that he's just a big unit who's a useful flick-on merchant. His touch defies his look.
I remember Peterborough paying a ridiculous amount for Joe Lewis in the season that they officially Went For It™. Somewhere in 400k-600k, region.I'm guessing that "not many" is in fact zero?
Got me thinking on the second point - we paid £500,000 for Adam Boyd and £340,000 for Sam Parkin.
Before that, I think we only paid higher for Lars Elstrup at £850,000. That must be worth a fifteenth of what it is these days.
For every £1,000 you pay on wages, that equates to £52,000 from the transfer budget. £500,000 is around £10,000 per week from the budget as a one off cost (plus wages obviously), which I suppose if you have a windfall from a player or cup run doesn't seem a million miles away even for some teams at this level.
No League 2 team should be paying that for a player though.
QPR are rumoured to want him,he'll go but not to another League 2 club as he said he wants to play in a higher division.Someone seemingly ITK has linked us with Aaron Pierre. Probably another one who will go to league one or higher
£400,000 according to Wikipedia. I remember us paying £425,000 for Mark Ovendale in 2000, who wasn't even good enough for L2.I remember Peterborough paying a ridiculous amount for Joe Lewis in the season that they officially Went For It™. Somewhere in 400k-600k, region.
Brentford spent 750k on Hermann Hreidarsson. Not sure that has been beaten, nor should it.
David Martin to Luton... possibly.
The keeper version, not the crappy left winger.
Can't believe County are paying Lewis Alessandra £1700pw!
Someone seemingly ITK has linked us with Aaron Pierre. Probably another one who will go to league one or higher
