Signed Olly Lancashire from Swindon.
Don't really know much about him, but don't think the Swindon fans were bothered he was leaving them so ............ Abit meh but time will tell.

Unlikely we'll ever sign a player that others are clamoring to keep, like most in the division. Can't judge till we've seen him. Hopefully more of a Nolan than a Raynes.

Astonished he found another league club. Slow, ponderous and guaranteed to mistime a few challenges and give away pens.

Awful.

Lancashire is broken and when he is fit he's terrible. Can't win a header for a start which isn't ideal when you consider the type of football many choose to play in this league and when he does get his head on the ball it often goes backwards.

Alongside Chris Robertson my least favourite centre half ever. Couldn't be happier he's gone and hope he never darkens our doorstep again. Actually feel for Crewe. Be spending a lot of his 2 year deal nowhere to be seen and the rest making stupid mistakes.

Rumours that we were interested in Lancashire in January, wonder if Crewe have beaten us to him this time?

Crookes has left Forest and looks to have sorted his next club, we are in a battle with another league two club (Colchester rumoured) for his signature. His agent Vale legend Sproson suggested we are favourites after his loan spell.

Not arsed either way on this one, he did a job and is young enough to improve but teams generally targeted him as our weakness at left back!

Bidding on Edmundson is now at roughly £600k, all turned down so far. The latest, highest bids would see the money come in installments, whereas we are looking for most of it up front.

Well the reviews of Lancashire are....worrying. Here's hoping working for a manager who used to be a CB can get some semblance of form out of him. I mean, our defence last season was a mis-mash of various combinations and it still saw us concede under 60 goals, which for us is a massive achievement.

I hope we haven't blown a decent chunk of money on him though. Still need to strengthen upfront.

How did he do for you second half of last season?

Wouldn’t have cost anything. Wages probably moderate.

Signed Olly Lancashire from Swindon.

Lancs was signed by Flitcroft and was club captain for the last 2 seasons. He was adequate in the first season but for one reason or another seemed to get worse. Our boo boys decided to target him for their wrath and against Cambridge at home was relentessly booed and then subbed. After that, he was never going to feature much.

Also was rumoured to have a back injury that may force him to retire, but not sure how accurate that is.

I don't think he is necessarily a terrible centre back for this league, a fresh start was needed and I don't have any ill will towards him.

Anyway, it’s good to see someone actually signing a player. Suppose the rush starts next week.

My own personal wish list would be Knoyle and Conroy both signing new contracts.

Sign up Bennett after his successful loan.

Not fussed either way about Theo Robinson or Yates from Rovrum

I’d love Devitt and Doyle - both doubtful I reckon.

Barry Cotter from Ipswich seems the sort we should try for.

We've signed Matt Mills as a player/coach on a 1 year deal. Experienced CB, his brother Joe is already here and he spent time training with the squad towards the end of last season.

He was a steady Eddy type.
6/10 to 7/10 every week. Seemed better away from home because when he crossed the halfway line he was clueless on the rare occasions we attacked !

In fairness I believe he is a centre half played out of position so harsh to be critical.

Our fans are pretty much like me, if he signs then he's a useful addition.
If he doesn't then I won't lose any sleep either.

At Vale for literally 3 seasons we have made do with a left back who really is a centre half.
Personally I'd like to see an actual left back play at left back and not simply make do.

Apparently Colchester are his other option. His agent happens to be an ex Vale player who played 300 odd times for us and does radio commentary on some games.

You'd anticipate it's cut and dried knowing that but let's see.

Maybe, but i remember Northampton fans laughing at us when we signed Sam Parkin and we definitely had the last laugh there!
I remember fans from numerous clubs laughing when we signed Sam Parkin. Sadly they were right on that one...

I can't remember the last time we signed a player where their former club's fans piled on the praise. I think most teams, bar the ones with money (or imaginary money), build their teams with underwhelming cast offs. The one that sticks out for us was Anthony Grant being panned by Stevenage fans when we signed him; he was absolutely immense for us and I'd still have him back in a shot.

I'll reserve judgement. He sounds like a typical Crewe defender, which is a shame, but I'm more concerned about his injury record. Would be odd if a sick note was top of the list of our targets.

If he is knowingly knackered then perhaps he is willing to play for a massively reduced salary. I'm sure he'll be fine for you as lower league defenders go. I'll be watching with a bit of interest.

Yeah true, we tend to sign players who get a mixture of positive feedback and some negative. It’s all about how a player fits in with your team/ system. When we signed Troy Brown he’s just been relegated twice with Aldershot and Cheltenham and he was allegedly “shit” but he turned out to be great. The other example was Notts County fans telling us Matt Gill was the worst player in history yet he was superb for us and ended up getting a move to Norwich on big money....

At the end of the day I try to reserve judgment until I’ve seen them play 5-10 times.

I for one like Crookes and would welcome him signing if he does. He did make a few mistakes down the stretch but people need to remember he is still only young and will learn. If he can work on his positioning and maybe add a slightly nastier streak to his game he will be an asset. Long term I can see him slotting into centre back in place of Legge.

Our link to Kyle Knoyle seems to have gone quiet. Any news from your end Swindon fans?

Nuffink. I think most contracts expire 1 June. Knoyle, and a host of other OOC players, are waiting for the best offer they can get. No problem with that.

It will show which players prefer a few extra roubles now over potentially bigger money later.
