Fisher was alright for us, a trier, but looked like an average conference striker at the time. He may have kicked on since then but imagine he'll be Bowman's understudy anyway and seems to have a knack of scoring every now and then.
Cheers

Just read the tweets from Yeovil fans when Fisher announced he was leaving last month. Not one of the 70 or so posts were negative which says a lot.

Love you Alex Fisher, League 2 top scorer 2019/20.

I, like most of our fans, was really disappointed and angry to see him leave. He's a fantastic guy and gives absolutely everything for the cause. If he gets the service he will score goals, his hattrick at Notts County last September was a perfect example. You've got a good signing there. Will be a fans favourite.

Reid yes, Campbell not sure. Both good players who will get goals at this level, whilst we're left with a young fairly inexperienced frontline, oldest of the 5 being 23 and none of who have ever managed double figures in senior football..

Lost a lot of experience this summer, with Lee Colins, Gavin Gunning, Scott Laird, Reid and Doidge, all big influences in the dressing room, all moving on, as well as losing loanee Lewis Ward, the best keeper we've had in ages, as well as our player of the year Reece Brown.

Only experienced outfield player we've signed is Matt Mills, who was playing in India, as player coach. The rest are all youngsters.
Wow, I had noticed all of them but the bigger picture had kind of gone under the radar a bit. I'd imagine DV will let some of that Brown/Doidge money into the budget, but next few signings key.

Looks like FGR are officially ‘Going for it’* then.

At the end of contract he'd be 33, is that really that old? We had Gary Jones at 36 and he was absolutely first class. If a player looks after himself they're still fine at that age!
Agreed. Jonah was excellent for us as well. Not sure how old Dean Windass was when he got four goals against us for Bradford in the League Cup (and a standing ovation from everyone in the ground), but he was another. I'll also mention Ian Henderson, who is 34 and has averaged 16+ goals per season for the last five years in League 1, and will hopefully do the same again next season.

Nice one cheers, definitely more encouraged after reading that.

Signed Nigerian striker Moses Ogbu, one year deal

28 years old mainly played in the Swedish leagues, apparently can play either wing and upfront
Hopefully he does well and then we sell him on for a Prophet..... :tw:

Are all you lots finances in order? Does your ground meet ALL the regulations?

If not time to start worrying....

Did Reid and Campbell also both want to leave? Seems weird that got rid of both them if not.

Reid fell out with Cooper but wasn’t going to play anyway 3rd/4th Choice. Campbell was the mistake. We let him leave on Loan in January when Doidge returned which was a big mistake. Then his contact was up and we didn’t offer him new terms. He’s a very good player and young will probably do very well if given game time and can see him going up the leagues and Cheltenham getting a payday.

Pretty stupid to let Reid go on a Free though if we knew Doidge was going.

It’s Looking mid table at best now unless we get a couple of decent strikers from somewhere

Deano would’ve been 35/36. I recall that game well, he was unplayable.

Danny Rose is available but you will have to compete with Bradford Tranmere and Salford.

Bang on mate. If they look after themselves age is irrelevant, with some of the players on the way down if the football brain is above the level they are playing at the pace they lack is made up with the reading of the game.

I'll be honest I had the ''too old'' attitude until Jonah arrived, he was the most uninspiring signing ever but ended up being one of my favourite City players who embodied what every fans wants from their skipper. He showed that in the L2 promotion and cup runs, brilliant memories.

To be fair one of the best midfielders in the division is Neal Bishop and he will be 38 soon I think, but that’s a rare example.

Owner is worth about 100 million, think we'll be ok!

Alan Hardy was until he brought Notts County, got his knob out on twitter and then his company fell into administration.

It's not a rare example at all, I could probably reel off a list....

Was he really though? He gambled and took money out of Paragon to try fund Notts. Alan Hardy himself never had that money.

Go on then, reel off a list of 38ish year olds that are the best players in the entire division, I mean to make it unrare considering the amount of players in a single division let’s go for 50 names? I’ll take whatever you got though.

Neal Bishop is definitely a rare example, he’s a box to box midfielder the bloke covers more ground than anyone else!

Being ‘worth’ something doesn’t just mean having £100m to withdraw out of your local NatWest, but just to clarify I’m not suggesting what El staggo is, just making a point that anything is possible.

Anyone got a half decent striker going spare? Just asking for a friend like
Jon Obika is available. Imagine he will sign for a League 2 club this summer.

Good player but comes with the caveat of being broken for most of the season.

We may be selling two more of our title winning side to Championship clubs later this week, not sure how true the information is I was told though. But I am prepairing for the worst.

Will be gutted if it happens though. Already lost out two main strikers - Who were both expected to go.

I think we're looking at signing players for transfer fees, now that we have around £800k in the bank, but who knows.

Did he play under Cooper for you?

But we're not talking about the best in the entire division are we, we're talking about solid pros who have played/playing at a good level.

Jamie Cureton
Gary Jones
James Coppinger
David Perkins
Aaron WIlbraham
Ryan Lowe

That's just off the top of my head without looking - stop taking the piss with 50 names. There's plenty and they aren't as rare as you are saying...

Saying it’s not rare and coming up with six names is taking the piss.

Considering every team has 20+ professionals in a squad there’s not more than a decent handful or two really, to me that’s rare shag, just think hard for a minute - get a rough figure of total players in L1/2 then compare that to every decent ‘pro’ of that age.

Oh Christ please don’t get el staggo started though.

Older players can have quality, Michael Brown was solid for us in L1 (as a player not manager mind!) and can go back to the likes of Danny Sonner for example.

Bishop is one of them, bit of a thug, uses experience well and clearly kept in good shape.

Kevin Ellison is pretty much eligible for a bus pass and still doing it for Morecambe week in, week out!

I play 5 a side every week with a guy who's 56 and he's fitter than I am.

My point was that you shouldn't judge somebody on their age, which you shouldn't and the names above prove my point that you can play at a good level if you look after yourself. Because I can't be arsed looking up every player that has played at 36+ but there is plenty go look it up.

Bish attributes his performance at such a late (football) age due to becoming a professional footballer not until his mid-twenty’s so a lot less pre-seasons etc on his body.

There’s some fantastic near 40s players but they are definitely a rare breed.
