He’s almost certain to be #2 in a RB/RWB role because of Haydn White but he does have a few injury problems at the moment and will probably miss our first league game so he might get a early chance to impress.

Don't know if he's any good but it will be useful to have an additional RWB because Benning and White in the 5-3-2 could cover in the centre back positions if needed, and we'd still have Hamilton for LWB.

I see Salford have signed Luke Armstrong from boro who looked poor at Accrington last year.

Is it just me or has their business (towell aside) been poor/average at best?

Yep, I mentioned this a few days ago too.

There was an automatic and understandable expectation that they'd come out with some real top names on stupid money.
Maybe they won't be the force most people thought.
Hoping that they are the new Rushden and Diamonds .
We've still not heard ticket allocation for our game in 3 weeks .

Yeah we definitely needed a right sided player, that was probably our biggest gap left.

I reckon another one will come in but I dunno if it’s going to be a defender or a midfielder.

Well, Mansfield have certainly recruited with the autos in mind.

The only question mark, for me, is whether their manager is up to it when the real stuff starts. God knows what they do if they fluff it again this season.

In for Louis Moult, he'd be a machine down here.

I was never that impressed with him at Wrexham despite his goals.

Kicked on loads at Motherwell, much more physical now, I think he's good enough for the Championship, our system just doesn't suit him at all. Better in a front two.

Classy player, very good movement in the box. Way too good for L2.

Hopefully he won't make it down here in that case! Can't see him going to Salford, they're getting linked with a few players far too good for the division but not getting deals over the line. Mansfield and Bradford the only other two teams that'd pay his wages have both already got loads of expensive striker.

It’s football mate so unless ya Notts County you just keep going.

One that’s gone under the radar for Mansfield is a young lad from Burnley that we didn’t even really announce called James Clarke, RB with bags of potential from what I have heard.

I know very little about our other signings barring the strikers, Dion Donohue, Kellan Gordon and Aiden Stone.

We used to have Moult when we were last in League 2, he must have improved a lot to be considered good enough for the championship! He's never proved himself in England however, we've had plenty of crap go up to the SPL and have good careers up there, think Championship is very optimistic for him.

Offering to pay the bulk of his £9/10k a week wages.

He was 18 when you had him. Nine years ago...

I've watched him over the past 18 months and he's a good striker who has been unlucky with injury with us. Very good poacher, great first touch and link up play. In the right team i'd expect him to hit double figures in the Championship no problem.

We had Louis Moult as a 20 yr old and released him to Nuneaton.
He scored one in thirteen appearances (mostly from the bench). The Stoke fan scored his only goal for us against Port Vale. :brill:

We have signed Scott Wharton on loan from Blackburn for the season. He was at Bury on loan last season, no idea how good he is.

Assume he was on his way to Plymouth and just ran out of fuel so thought he would sign with us, our 12th signing and I am expecting a few more still!

We've signed Tom Whelan after 3 trial games. A good addition to bolster our midfield.

We have signed Rory Holden on a season long loan, Gary Liddle and Zak Jules. Just after a centre forward now according to Darrell Clarke. We're building quite a deep squad which is surprising.

Good player is Wharton, he did well for us.

Who would you say is better out of him and Wilson?
Neither really got a fair crack due to the guys ahead of them but I'd have to say Wharton. I liked him as soon as I saw him due to his quality on the ball, stood out straight away. Both good at L2 level though.

Why, have you been linked with Wilson?

Good signing. Will certainly be one of the better CB's in L2 this season. Good in the air and with the ball at his feet, throws himself into blocks and can cover ground without being overly quick.

This time last year, Blackburn were holding out for a L1 Club to come in for him and take him on loan but he came back here instead. Just unfortunate for him that last season he was competing with Bostwick and Shackell who were incredibly consistent and always available.

In the second half of 2017/18 he was very good for us. which is why we were so desperate to re-sign him (aside from a dodgy game at Crawley and was benched for a short space of time).

Agreed. Wharton plays like he's been schooled at a higher level.

No, but he's someone I've kind of been hoping we'd try and bring in going off what I've heard about him and we do probably need another CB. I suspect Jolley would like someone who can fill in at full back too though.

We're after Martyn Woolford from Grimsby Town
Bit of a weird one that. He's a free agent as we released him. You'd be hard pushed to find many Town fans that wanted him to stay on. He did a decent job at times last season and he steadies the ship well when you're trying to hang on to points, but he's past his best. He was almost hopeless on the wing under Russell Slade and we only started seeing his good side once Jolley began to use him in a midfield three. He'd do a job for a lower half of the table side, but I can't see him being much beyond a bit part role at a promotion contender.
