GK Adam Smith has left us and signed for Yeovil.

Seemed to fall out of favour pretty much straight after signing last summer and started the season as 3rd choice behind a kid and a loanee, went out on loan to Yeovil, then came back and surprisingly had a run in the side, then went out of favour again and went back on loan to Yeovil after we signed Logan on loan.

In our 3 seasons at league 2 level we've brought in a new keeper on average once every 13 games. Hopefully Luke McGee will be decent so we can finally have something close to a steady no.1.

Hahahaha use the word bullish and Grimsby in the same sentence and it is like saying Candyman in front the mirror three times. Pontoonlew will turn up.
I saw you screenshot this place on The Fishy and couldn’t bloody help myself.

Now that’s out of my system I’m well up for a Green v Hearn if anyone else is.

looks like Josh Lillis has signed after the friendly yesterday although it's to be confirmed officially - word is he will be our 2nd choice keeper and goalkeeping coach.
Also Neil Danns is on trial with us and played yesterday.

Glennon will quite comfortably be the best LB in the league next season if he signs.

Benson is arguably even better.

You must have watched plenty of and developed a great knowledge of every left back in League 2 for you to make such a bold statement like that.

Conker and Adam Stag are still reeling from the embarrassing defeat they suffered last time they challenged Grimsby on something so they might not be up for that...

Yeah but you haven't seen Glennon, have you? He's just quite obviously too good for the division. I'd be surprised if there is a better LB in L2. The last time we had a defender like this was it was Ryan Bennett. You just knew within about a minute of watching him that was at the wrong level. Would be quite a coup if we manage to get Glennon and/or Benson purely because they're capable of shining in L1 right now. I'm not confident we will, but you never know. COVID times and Ollie might work in our favour here.

I’m really hoping we don’t play Grimsby before October. I want to be able to say I’ve seen Anthonso Davies Glennon live.

I’m happy with Mal Benning, who’s been one of the better LB/LWB at this level for a few years now.

Also SoC what sort of stuff are you posting on The Fishy from here :lol:

Hahahaha I have nudes of you all that I share on The Fishy. I bought them from TractorBoys.

(I also shared a screenshot of ChrisFGR's posts when I asked him about George Williams injury history).

I’d have Neil Danns back at Tranmere as a squad player. Always gives his all and still has legs for a 38 year old.

Pretty sure from the highlights that was Theo Vassell at right back too.

Rounded off a brilliant performance for us with an OG at Field Mill this season, cheers Mal!

Does Anthony Glennon deserve a thread like Bingham has?

I always forget how weird the resident Carlisle twins get in pre-season.

Two other supposed trialists for us: Ollie Younger from Burnley, and Ashley Smith-Brown (ex Plymouth and Oldham).

I think Danns would do a good job for Barrow. League One was a bit too much for him last season, but he is still in good shape and a great professional.

This is the first year for a while that HG isn’t predicting impending doom and certain relegation so I just think he is a bit giddy.

Not sure I like it. There was something comforting in knowing his posts would be as depressing as shit. Now it just confuses me.

You'd be giddy too if your team had just signed Joe Riley

I’m not giddy, I’m just realistic.

There appears to have been some planning and thought into our transfer business this summer, unlike last years last minute panic short term signings. We now have a competent coach who seems to know what he’s doing, unlike last year when we had Mr Deluded Steven Pressley in charge coaching players to become worse and worse by the week.

I don’t think we’ll be in any relegation trouble, but at the same time I’m realistic enough to know that we don’t have the quality and experience to challenge for promotion. I’m expecting mid table, but if the new players settle in quickly we could potentially push for top 10. A lot of our players are young, so this season is about progression and hopefully putting us in a place where we can be in a stronger position in a years time to hopefully then be able to push further up the table in 21/22.

Ashley Smith-Brown isn’t great. Struggled in L1 and I kept an eye on him at Oldham last season and he hardly featured. Says something when he hasn’t wound up at Morecambe, Derek Adams loves signing a former player that he’s worked with.

Sort of player that will be spending the rest of his career bouncing around in the depths of non-league. You can do better.

"Younger joined St Patrick's Athletic on loan in the Irish Premier Division shortly before lockdown.

He made two eventful appearances for the club - sent off on his debut, knocked out in his second match - before returning to England."

Yeah, seems a strange one as we have three players that can play left wing back - on paper though, given the clubs he's played for and his England background, he looks worth giving a trial to.
