Brentfords model is not built on players from the London area but young French players
I’m aware of that.
But attracting a player from abroad to London will be easier than them moving to a small city in the South West they’ve never heard of.

Maxime Biamou at Coventry is the latest name doing the rounds in our search for a striker. Never seen him play so no clue.

That's because their owner also owns FC Midtjylland. Their model is unsustainable for lower league clubs because our owners can't afford to own multiple clubs and share players across them.

Sun sport online have reported that we have received half of what villa paid for Louie Barry from Barcelona, which was 3 million. That with significant add ons.

It's difficult always being right

The three they picked up from France plus Ollie Watkins has paid the gamble off. It is based on Moneyball.
Bolton are loosely starting to go down this route. You cannot keep buying journeymen footballers and expect to turn a profit and grow as a team/club

Does Exeter not have room for growth as a club?

You get similarish attendance to us despite being a much bigger area, don't you think if the club went up the leagues the fanbase would grow? I feel like without any teams that closeby you must have quite a large scope for growth.

EDIT: Just looked into it and you averaged around 1k more than us last season, so not as similar size attendances as I previously thought.

There's only scope for us to grow if we ditch the Trust and fan ownership model. Which won't happen. So no, we're a L2/L1 side for the foreseeable, until some rich sugar daddy comes.

Would it not be sensible at some point to put a chunk of that money into assembling a League One standard squad and getting promoted? You've been falling short of promotion so consistently these last few years, if you just bit the bullet and did what it took to get promoted would that not be better for the club financially in the long run?

Are the fan's trust allergic to spending any more than what amounts to a ninth of your transfer income (a third split over three seasons) because they think that any more than that would be boom and bust?

Seems as though they're expecting to improve as a club very gradually, but gradual improvements aren't going to bump you over the line into the automatic places in League Two.

You're trying to convince the wrong person here. I'm no fan of the way we're run and going about things..

Overly worried about sustainability and just existing after the early 2000 debacle.

infrastructure? Fuck me!
We've just built a new stand and bought an away end, and have you seen the requirements for us to improve our academy to level 2? It's going to take serious cash.

For example, one requirement for a Category 2 Academy is an indoor training area.

Having a Category 2 Academy will be a drain on your resources. It costs a fortune to run and you will find you will lose your better players for next to nothing.

Yeah, absolutely true. That's why we've made millions thus far with this approach. But you know best.

I think you forget we're in Devon, with no clubs around us with an academy as good as ours. It's easier for us to pick up all the local talent ahead of clubs like Plymouth, Yeovil & Torquay now. We also don't have much bigger clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City on the doorstep regularly able to scout our players.

Ethan Ampadu, Matt Grimes, Ben Chrisiene, Ollie Watkins, Jordan Storey..... Need I go on? It more than pays for itself down here.

Is that a different Louie Barry to the one Villa paid £880,000 for?

Regardless of the fact that The Sun appear to have appointed Diane Abbott as their financial correspondent, I think its clear that this is another significant amount of money that's come to us as a result of our excellent academy. Hopefully it will finance a decent signing for us in the next few weeks

We've signed Tyler Cordner on loan from Bournemouth, CB who was on loan at Ebbsfleet last year.

I wouldn't trust BBC Sport. They're still peddling the lie about Watkins having an £18m buyout clause. A rumour that started on Facebook and followed up by the Athletc. That's as good as their sources go.

You can see the article here - it also mentions snubbing Bayern Munich. That's Liverpool, Chelsea & Bayern Munich that were after him, by the way! Just because you lot haven't heard of him, you think he's not worth over a few hundred k. People said the same about Amps, how wrong they were :)

Chuffed to bits Mark Ellis has re-signed for us. That’s our defence sorted out for next season now.

Ignore the professional broadcaster that employs professional sports journalists in favour of an internet forum gobshite

The BBC got their Ollie Watkins story from Facebook ffs. Professional broadcaster or not, they're evidently not reliable and Brentford have already confirmed he hasn't got a buyout clause. Bbc still haven't taken their article down.

Call me a forum gobshite all you like, I posted my reasoning behind why I think itll be north of £1m with pretty good answers. A forum is where people chat and discuss things. Its a thread relevant to what I posted about. Why get to aggy? Are you a child or something? A Sun Article then backs the figure I GUESSED at up....

The majority of fans on our forum are saying it'll be around the £1.5m figure, too.

Not sure why so many of you are so quick to use ad hominems and abuse people on here, behave like a pact of animals targeting someone. Its embarrassing. If you don't have summant nice or productive to say then keep it to yourself rather than try to inflate your own ego by having a pop at others.

The link in that Sun story also takes you to an article about him costing £880,000! Brilliant!

He went for £3m

Just google it. £880,000 with over 2m in appearances etc added on, bringing the deal up to 3m. Regardless, the point is Ben Chrisiene will have likely left for North of £1m with sell ons attached. Don't worry we aren't going to be a threat with an extra £100,000 playing budget for the next 3 years.
