Yeah Francis was one that we wanted in January, to the extent of agreeing a deal days before he fractured his skull, so I’d imagine it’s a deal that makes sense all round given you signed Francis.

We are stacked in the middle now though with some absolutely brilliant players for this level. A new GK and a RWB and I think we’re good to go, barring any sales of course.
That’s well unlucky re Francis. In his interview yesterday he said he was really scared it could have been a career ending injury, but fortunately the injury turned out to be more cosmetic and he was back playing within 3 weeks.

Seems Crawley have made a bid for Toby Mullarkey of Grimsby.

Ball playing centre back who can play midfield it says here.

Casey
Not sure where the midfield bit comes from. As far as I’m aware he’s not played midfield for us or for alty before that.

Was poor as a full back for us, but was better in a back 5 as a centre back, but nothing more than average. Appreciate your manager has done a great job, but I would suggest that you need to start worrying if you have got rid of most of your team and are replacing them with somebody like this.

Very mixed feelings about this. He bounces around clubs a lot, he has a poor fitness record and he's prone to revealing things on social media that managers would rather he didn't. He's also only had one double figure goal return since 2017. One over 7 in fact.

But clearly on his day, he is a real handful for defenders and can score goals. I'm just confused as to why we've seemingly signed a similar striker to Hemmings. Over 30, big, physical, will probably struggle to start 30 games. I'd have hoped they would have signed someone with different skills.
Tall and physical are not how I'd describe Hemmings tbh

He played in midfield for our youth teams sometimes but not sure he's played there since

Kyle Cameron has joined st Johnstone on a season long loan from us
Judging from his comments he’s had a bit of a mardy after losing the captaincy which I suppose is fair enough. Like everyone else at the back, not really good enough.

Promotion winning defence now completely dismantled. No more excuses for next season.

As with Baldwin, disappointed to see him go from a sentimental point of view, and I think Cameron had a role to play this season but if he doesn't want to be here then that's best for everyone. Just hope we're not on the hook for any of his wages.

It's the right decision for the club, for the new captain, and for Cameron.

He will forever be the captain who led us back to the FL#destained but it's the right call.

Personally more disappointed with Baldwin than Cameron but neither can look in the mirror and say they were anywhere near good enough last season. So both move on and hope replacements are noticeably better.

We've signed Omar Bogle as we have to sign exactly one player from Newport every summer now. I know his career has been mixed but I'm pretty happy with that.

Very pleased with that signing. Some decent experience up front and finally some depth up there.

I'll put this here because it will interest Swindon fans.

Another if our first team gone but this time understandably. Ben Gladwin retires. The knee finally got the better of him.

He is joining our coaching team.

We're interested in Akil Wright of Stockport. Apparently Stockport want rid but they're asking for a fee and we're not prepared to pay one. Not sure if there'll be any movement there.

This time last year we were worrying he wouldn't sign a contract and was going to Stockport.
It's a shame to see the team break up, collectively they've done their best for us but they came up short last year and we're an ambitious club.

Crewe recruitment bingo has been interesting so far.

Signed a player who once scored a hat trick past us for the second straight season. (Hemmings)

Signed an injury prone midfielder who has played very little football for his age. (Sanders)

Signed a Cambridge player with questionable end product for the second straight season (Lankester)

Signed a Newport player for the third straight season. (Bogle)

I feel we've signed a dependable forward in Hemmings, 2 players with a huge point to prove in Sanders and Lankester and Bogle who can be a match winner but carries significant baggage too. JKL on loan is also an unknown quantity.

The manager is obviously doing his best to strengthen where we were weak last season and I feel we need 3 more first team calibre signings to field a strong starting XI. But I feel that Hemmings and JKL apart, we've taken a big risk with the other three players.

Sanders being talked up as our first choice midfield target given his career and injury history is somewhat concerning. We've just got rid of a similar player in Colkett after all and we've actually paid a fee for him. So jury is definitely out on him and let's hope he can stay fit.

Lankester getting a 3 year deal for someone with very little end product is also concerning BUT maybe he needs to drop to this level to produce? I remember him having a few good games for Ipswich as a youngster so there's definitely a player in there but can we coax it out of him? Plus he's moving away from his native East Anglia for the first time. Will he settle here? So jury is also out on him.

Bogle the player has bags of ability and has proven that over the years at lower league level. But he's also had off field issues at a lot of his previous clubs and can be toxic. I'm obviously giving him a clean slate with us but you don't want any player to disrupt the excellent squad harmony Lee Bell has managed to cultivate. So he's a different kind of risk to the other two. I just hope he's a good egg here.

Having heard who our next potential signing is though (Akil Wright) I think he'll be an excellent replacement for Offord. Will be the biggest fee we've paid for 11 years I believe too should it materialise. So I certainly don't have many concerns over him and he'll slot in nicely to an area where we badly need an experienced head to enable us to be flexible at the back when we need to be.

More a case of meeting in the middle with them as believe we offered them a fee initially which wasn't exactly derisory. I believe after seeing we got money for Adebisi they've moved the goalposts a bit. But I expect it to be resolved.

Just don’t play him in midfield otherwise you’ve been ripped off.

Great as a CB on the right of three but very limited beyond that in my opinion. Prone to the odd daft decision but will give you a lot of enjoyment running the ball out of the defence

Didn’t really see that often as a CB in a back four but I’d wager he is too rash and limits his main strength

Think if it materialises he'll definitely be signed as a CB primarily to enable us to play 3-5-2 when necessary and because we're short of bodies there and Williams is injury prone.

May also be good in a 4 alongside Demetriou who is a strong covering defender which could bail out Wright if he is rash like you say.

They'll definitely experiment with him in the holding mid position at some point if we're all crocked again though like we were last season. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen.

I like Akil Wright but not sure he's biggest fee for 11 years type stuff for a Football League Side.

As Ellis says, very good RCB if you play a three at the back. Problem if you play a four is you have no idea where to play him. Can't play CM in my opinion, not cute enough on the ball without the whole game in front of him. Not a CB in a four by trade, did OK there at times but if that's what Crewe are planning, you could get better for far less your record fee.

Good lad though and has been good for us in his 2 seasons here, was signed as a punt back up DM from the NLN and ended up being a very good RCB. Can see why we're not sold on him in League One, though.

Heard a whisper that when Macca goes (which could be soon from what I’m hearing) that we’re wanting Michael Mellon from Burnley as his replacement. Seemed quite decent on loan at Morecambe last season.

And he's got a 50p head.

Cheers for trying to ruin what’s been a really good day so far…

If any of those rumoured sums are anywhere near right, can’t blame us for biting their hand off, but fookin ell, Macca leaving would be a tough one to take.

Yeah Mellon looked decent for Morecambe I assume we’d be buying him which would ease the pain a bit.

Looks like it's not happening - Stockport have found a team who are willing to pay/get closer to their asking price.

Don’t care if you offered me any striker in world football within 10 minutes of Macca leaving, I’m still going to sulk for weeks (even though I reluctantly accept selling him is absolutely the right thing to do)

Looks like two more of our losers from last season are on their way out. Jack Armer and Alfie McCalmont.

Good news.

It doesn't take long for a decent NL squad to be broken up , our whole team that went up 2 seasons ago is now gone - not 1 player left . Invariably the one's who are very good go higher up and the one's who are not quite good enough drop back down or sidewards i reckon .

Mellon looked a real handful up at their place.
It's rare to sign a Langstaff goal machine so I wouldn't expect him to be hitting 25-30 goals but with service him, Jatta, McGoldrick and Scott should be good for 50-60 between them.

Yep, we finished last season with seven starters from the year before, two of which have now gone as well as half the squad not playing in our last game. By the beginning of 25/6 I'd be surprised if there's more than three left.
