Best conny side of all time came the year after my good friend. So good that the players were able to sit on the beach for 2 months & still end up winning it at a canter

Only a fifteen point difference or something. ;)

Impossible to tell tbf, you lot definitely eased up loads towards the end, but also never had to cope with the pressure of having to win every week in a close battle. Great days all round.

The fee will be to pay his contract off. If he hasn't asked for a transfer he's entitled to this season's contract money. It's pretty standard, we've done it for Kairo Mitchell and a couple of others in the last I think.

Funny seeing big Kairo ripping up the league this season. Never really got a look in, but our recruitment team’s record with strikers is something else.

Just do one hellogregory you wet weekend.

We are bottom of the football league and you expect loads of class strikers to come flocking to us, Scott could be a decent addition so get a grip.

What you laughing at, I’m sure we pumped your world beaters early on that year with a much weaker team than we had the next!? ;)

You had a good side but that league had zero competition. Both ourselves and Notts the year before had better teams and had to compete in a harder league- we are currently joint second in league one with half the same team. You also arguably weren't as good as Stockport the season before.

The fact you beat us two or three games into the season doesn't negate our points total, our win percentage or the fact we lost less games. The record for best National League team is ours for a reason.

I admire how one eyed you are as a fan but come on. We spent good money winning that league.

That job Luke Williams did keeping pace with you looks even more mad now we’ve had to get rid of pretty much everyone to get near the top of League Two (and the two outstanding ones who are in the Champ tbf). How he managed to turn Chicksen into Roberto Carlos for a bit needs a feature length documentary.

What an odd signing.

Decent enough if you go down, but paying a fee for Cedwyn Scott seems a strange move when you still have a chance to save your season.

Throw a load of shit at a wall and see if any of it sticks.

It’s pure desperation.

How has this thread turned into a “my conference team was better than yours”

Wait till Carver arrives to announce that we’ll have the greatest conference team of all time next season.

Get Notts, Chesterfield, Wrexham, Grimsby and Stockport fans in the same place and we’re going to talk about those two or three years in the conference. Nothing we can do about it.

My comment was quite clearly tongue in cheek regards our result against you that year, don’t let it bother you too much sir.

It would be madness for me to come out with a comment such as ‘we had the best ever conference side’ and mean it literally as it’s impossible compare sides from different seasons as loads of different factors at play.

What I would say though, is that I am very confident that the side we had last year would have been well up there & competed with yourselves & Notts teams from the year before. Like I said, we finished with 98 points yet took our foot off the gas in late Feb after we beat 2nd place away to send us something daft like 26/27 points clear or whatever it was. Who knows how we’d have done if we’d have had to keep our foot on the pedal for the full 46 games.

I think Fleetwood are still the best conference side I've seen tbh!

At times last year I was checking the results as I thought you'd break our record tbh. Which was quite remarkable as we only got the tally we did because we had Notts driving us on.

Up until the end of Feb we were unstoppable tbh. The amount of late goals we scored was ridiculous as well, going into the last 10 minutes of games you just knew we were going to get the goal we needed to get over the line.

You mentioned it on the other post but given the lack of any real competition to us all year, it was natural for us to take our foot off the gas and drop a couple of percentages (& points!) tbf. I would be surprised if any other NL side in history has been able to take the foot off the gas so early on in a campaign and still win it so comfortably by the end?
Part of me wishes we had a bit of actual competition to see where it would have pushed us too but we’ll never know, and tbh I contradict myself a bit there as it was great knowing we were virtually promoted in Feb, never been so relaxed watching us

Anyway, sorry Carlisle fans, back to Cedwyn Scott

Never write anyone off.
Ian Harte, Peter Valentine, Warren Aspinall.
3 players off the top of my head criticised before they kicked a ball for us and they all turned out to be decent signings.
Good luck Cedwyn Scott, welcome to our club.

I’m amazed to hear people wrote off Ian Harte. I remember being absolutely buzzing the day we signed him and I knew he’d be class.

Now just feel like we’re wasting a fortune and will end up with a squad of 35-40 players, mostly on big money chucked together and will still go down. Scott for example has hardly played, has come off a bad injury last season and likely won’t be match fit straight away. Its worrying. We’ve been here last season but it seems we’re splashing even more this time.

It smacks of desperate panic, not the strategic planning they’ve previously spoken about.

Not going to happen, barring major changes.
Agreed, not a chance.

There’s this idea among other fans (even some of ours) we have a good team that will give teams a game and will eventually click. But it hasn’t and it won’t.

As I’ve said many times on here, it has to be seen to be believed how bad we are. Tranmere fans now know. Bradford fans will in a couple of weeks.

Re carlisle fans - remember chatting to a number of barrow fans end of last season saying they trained preston way given the location (appreciate it’s more of a pain in the arse geographically if driving there), do you find your location is prohibitive to signing players or is not really an issue?

I think it was an issue when we were paying conference north wages, players would rather play in the conference north round Manchester area than play up here for the same wage.

But I don’t think it’s an issue at all now since the takeover. If anything I wish some players would turn us down! We’re going to end up with a squad of 40 pros the way we’re going.

We are building a new training complex in the city so there’s no chance of us relocating the training anyway.

This is something often raised by Grimsby fans, some suggesting our training ground should be nearer Doncaster for example to make it easier to attract players from Leeds, Sheffield etc area’s. It would certainly save some players the best part of 2 hours extra travelling.

Imo it wouldn’t happen, the club stresses the strong links with the community and the benefit of the YT’s training at the same venue is vital.
Grimsby have ‘club houses/apartments’ so many of the players who are from away, stay in those.

I can see arguments both ways, but personally I am very much in the training ground must be in the vicinity of the club, camp

We're set to sign a left-sided player - rumours are Tayo Edun on loan from Charlton, but I doubt there's much truth to that.

He was watching our game at your place the other day, one of our fans noticed and started linking him with us.

I don't see any issue at all.
In fact, I find it a bit embarrassing that teams like Barrow and Inverness use location as an excuse.
Barrow train at FCUM or Curzon Ashton!!
To me, it shows a lack of infrastructure and professionalism.
But, it's their choice, so there you go.

Permanent, three and a half year deal. Winger/forward who sounds like he had a great loan spell with Shelbourne when they won the league in Ireland last season.
