They could turn out to be great but pretty much all the youngsters we've signed (apart from Arblaster who's just unbelievable) are either very inconsistent or just not ready for men's football. You'd think in your position, you'd sign a bit of experience and knowhow. Connor Grant could be an option for you...he's a scouser who came highly rated from Plymouth. He's just been crap here but perhaps a change of scenery will do him good. Three seasons ago , we went to Tranmere who I think were above us in the table at the time and got a draw. They looked a pretty strong side. What on earth has happened since? Seems like the powers that be have resigned themselves to relegation.
Wheatley who we've signed from United has that look about him so far looks like a kid trying to play with men.

Us and Tranmere being linked with Anthony Forde who has just left Wrexham.

If I get chance, I'll do a full update.

Yep, very encouraging to not have panic bought and so refreshing to not really be in any dire need for anyone either. The squad is by no means perfect or even quite ready to mount a challenge but it will do for now and if we've saved a few pennies for the summer then that's even better.

We were in for him by all accounts mate. Classic Gillingham though, get on the L2 forums and see who everyone is linked with then send out the taxis and double what they're being offered. Still, that one is a certified GOOD SIGNING.
I'd have Fordey back here class player when he played for us if he's anywhere like that now be a good signing for you.

As always depends what McKirdy they're getting. The one who had a great season at Swindon or the one for almost every other year of his career. Will be an "interesting" welcome he'll get when they come to VP.

I’ll nail my views to the mast and say I’m not bothered about Smith. Not convinced he was on our radar anyway but will know more tomorrow.

Our data led approach is that any permanent signing must, in theory, be able to play in League One. We don’t want to sign players with a League 2 ceiling. Not convinced, by what I am told about Smith’s spell at Cheltenham from several sources, that he would be comfortable in League One. He was great in the NL

Yes, we have to get there first, but if our strategy is to build and sign players who should be comfortable at the next level then, personally, I can get on board with that.

Whether the data and judgement is right is anybody’s guess of course

I guess that's what Alan Buckley did in the non-data led world of 35 years ago. Brought in players comfortable with a playing style that would stand us well in one level higher and then a second step up - Rees, Gilbert, Childs. I admit was sceptical at the time, just adding Neil Woods to the squad after the first promotion, then we ripped PNE apart at Deepdale on the opening day and were never out of the promotion spots all season.

I'm convinced that season was a one off. As a complete tosser himself, he probably enjoyed playing with other tossers like the Williams and Egbo and that tosser of a manager.

That penalty miss was just magical. He even laughed in an ironic way. If I was a Swindon fan I'd have been fuming as he tried to hit top bins, whereas if he scores they go on to win.

Boy did they have a dislikeable bunch. It felt like karma really worked that day.

To be fair probably got some unfair stick as he never really got a look in. Never felt he was an Askey type of player and DC shoving him at left back last game of the season was an odd one!

That said his celebration in the first leg and the pigs thing didn’t help him in the semi and was dire in the second leg, although after his dive in the first leg and that image of him pleading innocence as Hall has him by the shirt is a classic, don’t think he was as keen to go close to Connor after that!

Interesting to see how he does there. Much as I dislike him and loved the karma in the second leg I am glad to see him fully recovered from his health scare and being able to carry on his career.

Is he tall enough to play for Bromley?

We have signed 24 players this season and 17 players last season.

41 new players since August 2023. All change here.

I agree regarding the signings, quite surprised we recruited anybody, even if just a couple of young kids. Sometimes they can be decent, like Rob Apter last season, usually not. We've been told by Mark Palios that right up against the salary cap with summer signings, so unlikely we'll be able to afford any more experience.

Can't give you a quick answer to the what's gone wrong question, The giving Adkins a 3 year deal last year and the Palioi lacking the funds to get rid of him are the nub of our current difficulties. The co-chairs seem to have disengaged and just waiting for the big pay off as and when any takeover goes through. I lived in South Yorkshire and used to go to Doncaster during the Ken Richardson-Mark Weaver era as they dropped out of the league. Not suggesting Palios and Adkins are such toxic personalities, but it has a very similar vibe at present

That was a great side you had back then. McDermott and Lever always impressed me too.

Yes I don’t think either of them have tried to set fire to their own ground yet!

You have my upmost sympathy if that is the case.

Thanks. I loved going to your old Belle Vue ground particularly if a Friday night game, but the fans mood as that pair were running your club is the closest I can recall as a fan to how Tranmere supporters are feeling now.

Despite many fans clamouring for Smith I understand he was never on our radar. No interest from GTFC.

There were talks with an unnamed player but evidently that is likely to be materialise in the summer.

Forde or whatever he is called isn’t a target for us.

What about Sgt Wilson - staying with us until end of season now?

hellogregory Jack Robinson any good? Will he 'tear it up in THAT league'

Honestly I don’t know. He never really got a look in here. The odd sub appearance and games in the trophy that I didn’t watch.

It was a strange one. We got him on loan in 2023, be hardly played then for some reason we signed him permanently the following summer. Then he hardly played.

Connor Grant signed by Accrington Stanley. Just never worked for him at Vale, after coming with a good write up. Some Plymouth fans wanted to keep him for the Championship....God knows what they saw in him. He is a bit of a nothing player, no real redeeming qualities. Seems like a good pro though and maybe a change of scenery will do him good.

In news we eyeing up a free transfer signing at Carlisle…..I suppose we need to bring anither 11 in to replace the 11 that replaced the 11 that replaced the 11

I wonder if more of a target man type, I could see hughes more of a striker holds up ball than quick and nippy

Ask MK Dons fans. Matt Dennis, just left MK on deadline day.

Actually, I can tell you what they’ll say… He’s shit.
