The thing is, Bradford had to recall him today - otherwise he would stay on loan with us on the same terms.

Not good business for Bradford and, quite rightly, they want to screw us for a better deal. Bit of a gamble as if we replace him n the meantime they’re stuck with a player who doesn’t want to be there.

Personally, I wish the whole thing is sorted now. Go back, play for Bradford, we all move on.

Let’s be realistic about it - Firstly Doyle is your standard mercenary footballer, double figure number of clubs, flops more often than he excels, has been around the block enough for clubs higher up the league to know he’s just an alright L1/good L2 striker. He’s had a good few months like he did at Oldham, like he did at Chesterfield, moves on, his goals dry up, few clubs later, boom, people call him ‘Pele’ and you’d think he’s actually better than said Brazilian legend.
So in terms of clubs spending money on him, no one other than Swindon is going to do so when in a few months he’s free and if you’re further up the ladder he’ll more than likely score the odd hand full of goals, a couple of pens and not much else.
So only Swindon are buying him. In which case recalling him for five minutes to then get rid is what? Petulant? Embarrassing? Tinpot? We have the opportunity to have the leagues top scorer upfront on Saturday (and for the rest of the season) and we’re going to say no to that just to try and spite Swindon for a few weeks? If we were going to sell we’d just do it, pay up for someone who walks away in the summer anyway and we all move on, to suggest otherwise is just playground stuff.

Surely Bradford would be trying to get a tune out of him for the rest of the season now? 20 goals, oozing confidence... they don't grow on trees.

Apart from he doesn’t want to be there. His stock is high at the moment. 20+ games at Bradford where he does nowt knocks that when he’ll be looking for a good deal in June.

It’ll make Bowyer look a right chump, too.

Tbh, it’d be good to hear something from either club. At the moment it’s all down to Artell.

I really wish Artell had kept his mouth shut. Does he know if anything will change between Sunday and today? No. Even if he got it straight from the horses mouth in a Bradford director, things change quickly in this game.

He's risking looking like a right chump if this doesn't happen. And yes, before anyone pipes up, it wouldn't be the first time, I know.

In my own opinion Swindon will go up whether with or without Doyle as they have enough quality in all areas anyway.

Agreed. Best side by a country mile. And Doyle didn't even impress me that much in either one of the two games I've seen him in action this season (the 1-0 home loss and that awful 4 nil thumping at Swindon).

I find it hilarious that some fans think we can somehow become worse off from this whole debacle. :bye:

SVH is right in comparing the Doyle situation to Rory Gaffney's. We wanted him off the wage bill and sent him off to BRovers, scored a shit load of goals and the Gas fans were calling him the ginger Messi. Loan's over and we recall him, even though he makes it explicitly clear he doesn't want to return. In fact I swear he missed a sitter on purpose in his first game back. So player power wins, and what can you do but grant his wish to go back to Rovers?

If Bradford wanted to be the ultimate shithouses, they'd dangle the idea that they will sell him to you in this window for the next few weeks, meaning you won't go into the market for another striker. Then, on deadline day, they mess you around all day and then at the final moment pull of negotiations.

Leaves you high and dry with no replacement and no Doyle, plus they can leave him on the bench and find a way to absorb the financial hit for 6 months whilst they get promoted, knowing if they don't, he'll be gone in the summer anyway.
Been reading The Prince recently? I like your thinking young man/woman.

low key rumour that Billy Clarke may be going Lincolnshire way when his short term contract ends on the 18th. Not so sure myself, it rather depends who we get in. I think he has a job to do for us off the bench.

We’ve got a Brazilian striker on trial called Stone. That’s his full name, no first name, just Stone.

He was in the Shakhtar Donetsk youth team but got rejected aged 18.

No he won't. He'll look like he was told something that didn't happen.

Liam Gibson gone back to Newcastle and Robson back to Sunderland after completing their loans. Both have been pretty good so will be misses. Doesn’t sound like Gibson will be back as we have now bought in another left back, still a chance Robson might return if Parkinson doesn’t think he will feature for their first team.

Adam Marriott, currently at King's Lynn, is attracting Grimsby and a number of other football league clubs apparently.

Always thought he had the quality to play professional football just always seemed to have his heart elsewhere. He likes to stay local so not sure if Grimsby would be too far. I doubt we (Cambridge) would go in for him even if we were his first choice so Stevenage is probably the most likely destination if they can persuade King's Lynn to let him go.

Looks like we're close to signing a much needed centre half on loan. Many saying it will be George Ray back from Tranmere.

A few fans against that but realistically he's better than our other centre backs apart from Nolan which is now increasingly looking like he's out until close to the end of the season.

3 players been recalled by their parent clubs, Joe Wollacott and James Morton back to Bristol City and Kyle Taylor back to Bournemouth. Wollacott and Morton both did pretty well, but have been out the team recently. Taylor struggled tbf. Means we're down to just 2 loans, so room for up to 3 more to come in this window.

Has anything been said about what's happened to Eddie Nolan?

Not really sure how I feel about George Ray returning, couple of Tranmere fans I know have said he's struggled and made a few mistakes. Personally don't think Mbulu will get his short-term contract extended after his was hooked off at half time against Salford. 2 centre backs and possibly another striker in January will be good business for me.

They're being pretty vague about it - Artell's words suggest he could be back fairly soon but Peter Morse reckons he's worried that he could even be out for the rest of the season.

I wouldn't want Ray back, he did well for us but I'm not sure he can play the way we've been playing this season. Same goes for Mbulu really.
