How many times have we been the last ball out in the draw? Seems to be every time.
Games will be played over the weekend of the 5th of September.
The following ties include League Two teams.
Grimsby v Morecambe
Derby v Barrow
Scunthorpe v Port Vale
Oldham v Carlisle
Salford v Rotherham
Tranmere v Harrogate
Walsall v Sheff Wed
Preston v Mansfield
Bolton v Bradford
Bristol C v Exeter
FGR v Orient (who Sky Sports seem to think are playing in their first league cup in two years, clearly someone hasn't updated the flash-cards)
Crawley v Milwall
Stevenage v Portsmouth
Peterborough v Cheltenham
Birmingham v Cambridge
Newport v Swansea
Reading v Colchester
Gillingham v Southend
Didn't take much notice of the other ties, Sky Sports seem to be creaming themselves over the prospect of Brentford v Wycombe (they seem to think it's a huge story that Brentford and Wycombe are in the same division this season as if Brentford are some kind of Leeds-esque fallen giant and Wycombe are fresh out of non-league), and Northampton v Cardiff for some unknown reason.
For me, the picks of the bunch are Derby v Barrow, as Barrow's first game back as a league club sees them travel to a former league champions; the south-wales clash between Newport and Swansea, and Gillingham v Southend perhaps, those two towns face each other across the Thames estuary so I'm guessing it's considered a local derby but could be wrong on that. Bolton v Bradford will surely be an interesting one too, willy-waving extraordinaire. At least Paul Merson knows a tasty tie when he sees one as he seemed to agree with me.
We get the opportunity to play Oldham before Harry Kewell has managed to find his feet, so a decent draw for us.
