I've always said our away support is pretty fickle, think you can put Middlesboro in the same boat.
When we're struggling with nothing to play for then it's relatively poor.
However when we are on a promotion roll then our our numbers go up drastically and is pretty impressive.
However our home support is always pretty solid no matter how poor we are.
Our 5th season in this horrible league, our worse spell in our entire history and our average is virtually 20K.

Conversely Sheff Wednesday are the opposite.
Their away support is always quite impressive in numbers even when doing very little, Leeds are similar but on a even bigger scale. However it's the home support for SW that has always been fickle, again similar to Leeds.
When they are struggling it's lower than ours but when there's a big match then traditionally many of their fans appear from no where out of the woodwork giving them support akin to a big club.
Of course when Sheff Utd have a big match or do well our home numbers increase but not as much.

Hold up, when we are struggling ours is worse than yours? Based on what? We've had better averages than you despite you being a league higher or pushing for the top flight see 2003-2006, you've had better crowds on the back of your promotion season but since 2010 it's been back to normal.

I agree with you partly but there a better supported club pretty much most of the time we do have our seasons when we get more in equivalent seasons at home. And match there away support if we're both doing well like a few years back but all in all they beat us by around 10/15%.

1600 sold for cov to see the end of another wank season. More points than any other fl club over the last 5 years still no promotion though.

Yeah our support was less than I expected to be honest - maybe the crap weather put some off at the last minute. We do have an awful record there and to be fair Walsall is not the best away day (Saddlers club is cheap I suppose so there is something going for it). Didn't stop me travelling up from Essex with two other Salop fans though (must be mad )

Home support was terrible for a team in third chasing automatic promotion ~4,600 home fans :ffs:

Home support is what it is. Not a case of built it and they will come at Walsall, never has been. Though ground location and advertisement doesn't help things.

We would probably only average around 6,000 home fans if we went up, our attendances don't really change dramatically

Is it you that said Walsall should average around 1,000 away followings by the end of the season?

Don't be silly mate, they averaged over 30,000 in the premier league and have had bigger home crowds for 5 years out of the last 36! (although they finished higher than us in 12 of those years). Have to say Uniteds home support has surprised me this season, however ours would also be much higher if we were paying similar prices every game. We are usually better both home and away, but fair play to both, great support for some of the shit we have both had to watch, not many can match Sheffield clubs, when shit, must all be masochistic.

Normally I'd have little sympathy for the bigger clubs who struggle to escape the lower leagues, but I have a soft spot for Sheff Utd what with the Tevez saga and our fantastic recent record at the Lane. A lot of their modern day misery seems to have come at our benefit. If they had stayed up on that final day ahead of us, they could have so easily became an established Premier League side like we did. For them to now be attracting 20k a week considering the football they churn out is remarkable. I'd much rather play them every season than Wednesday, no disrespect to them, if only because their ground is actually easily walkable from the train station :D

Our official Twitter account stated that our current away average is 1,541.

In the programme, our following at Swindon is listed down as 1200+ as opposed to 1025 on here.

Can't find the exact figure at the min.

Clutching at straws..... How come it's taken you til now to highlight the 'difference' from the first game of the season, take a pic of your programme so we can sort out this disaster!

Let's be reyt though, and I know maths isn't your strong point, an extra 200 or so won't add the 55 to the differences in averages (I have 1,486). I'll happily be corrected mind.

Any need to be such a prick about everything? Keep them as they are for all I care; I just figured you'd want the correct figure, y'know, because you're such a statto an'all that.

Remember saying its a possibility. Though some shit results and generally below par turnouts (Oldham, Bradford) knocked it. Had a horrendous amount of Tuesday night aways anyway but no defending it. General feeling is the support number wise has been less than expected.

1,700 sold for vale away anyway so far so that will boost it a small bit lol

City have added on the away attendances from the F.A. Cup and Capital One Cup in their average, 3489 at Bury, 350 at Aldershot plus 2006 at York, the average from our league games is 1486 but with the F.A. Cup and Capital One Cup it's 1541.

Ah, that's fair enough, then. However, I will attach a pic of the followings in the programme just to prove my initial point - whether the figure is correct or otherwise, it's their for all to see.

173 U's fans at Barnsley.
Decent following from your mob yesterday. More than Crewe and Fleetwood brought when the season was in it's infancy.

Last League One trip for a while I guess, and the last one of the season usually brings out a few extra. Not that 173 sounds like it includes many extras haha.

One positive of Scunny pipping us to 6th next week will mean we might not have to suffer this shit next season.

Looking at a Swindon Programme, it states your away turnout as 1,025.
Do you not think your programme editor has transposed the 0 & 2 to get 1,205?

Not a bad overall average for us at all. The only disappointment over the course of the season for me are our low Manchester away followings. We had Oldham, Bury and Rochdale all in the first half of the season when we weren't doing as well. If we had one of them around March/April time, we'd have taken well over 2000 to any of the three. 1211 to Rochdale in particular was pitiful, although it was a Saturday lunchtime on Sky, torrential rain and the morning after the Paris attacks.
