We were always going to have a decent away following this season, because of the novelty and new ground factor plus the amount of local games that we haven't played for sometime
Keep in the promotion race all season and I can see us averaging between 1700 and 1800.
If we start to fall away then I think 1300 to 1400 average.
Fail to gain promotion and I can see a big drop in our average the following season.

Totally agree with this assumption. When we won the league a couple of years ago it was the first time in this league for some time having been in the prem and championship for some years. The novelty and so many local games like you say bumped our away following up, plus we had a good chance of winning games after years of struggling to win games.
Alot of our fans hadnt been to these local grounds like Oldham, Bury, Fleetwood, Rochdale etc.

Biggest following in this division so far, depending on Bradford at Bury.

Decent, but it’s to be expected.

I imagine when we play you, that’ll be the biggest away following of the season. We sold out Bolton last season (4400), and I imagine a similar following if not more depending on form, of course.

Aye, 3k to Oldham is the standard especially when you haven't played them in an absolute age.

Good season to be a travelling Blackburn fan with these local games, regardless of the division.

Oh aye, I'm fully aware that our average is abnormally high due to the sheer number of local grounds that we haven't played at for years; same reason I'm expecting it to tail off, all of the local away games are in the first half of the season.

Doubt we'll have the highest of the season come May as we can give more than any other team, I don't see anyone bringing 7k but Bradford and Wigan will bring 4k+ if they're doing well. I dare say Oxford might bring a few thousand on the last day if it means something.

Wonder if anyone will take the 5k and fill our away end this season. Only Blackburn or Bradford have the support to do it. Pompey only took 1.9k after claiming they'd sell out pre season. I know Blackburn are visiting a lot of new grounds but it's strange how they're away support has shot up even though they're still owned by Venkys. They took a pitiful 2000 to our place last season and now look like doubling it this season.

The Venky's ownership hasn't affected away support, just vastly reduced home crowds. We may have had shocking support last year at the DW but it was still more than you brought to Ewood, with that being when it was clear it was a relegation 6-pointer too. ;) We'll take 3-3.5k to you I expect, seems to be where our away support peaks now, though with us not winning at the DW for 8 games (since New Year's Day 2007, fucking hell) and it not being a new ground for us it could well be below that.

Also, we still haven't been given ticket details for the game and it's 16 days away, that won't help numbers either.

Probably figuring out the best way to fleece you knowing you're one of our biggest followings. We got our admission prices badly wrong this season and it's affected home crowds. Unforgivable considering we've sold more season tickets than we did two years ago in League One.

You can't really compare our away followings last season. You came to us the second week of the season, your first away game, we came to you 23rd in the league in March so I'd consider 1965 a good effort considering Warren Joyce had sucked the life out of us fans. Had the fixtures been reversed we'd have taken far more.

I've seen that home prices were announced today and they're Category B, I think league rules say you have to charge away fans the same for a similar view so at grounds like ours you can't fleece away fans without fleecing your own. I was expecting the same as what they were when you played Pompey.

I'd argue that we'd have taken far more had the fixtures been reversed also, we had some brilliant followings towards the back end of last season.

Just seen now, £25 and a £2 increase on the day. Absolutely disgraceful prices for League One, £20 like two seasons ago and we could have had a good crowd and possibly an away sell out. I guess we have to pay Nick Powell's wages somehow.

It's always a good game when we play each other at the DW. I'll never forget that game in 2011 when David Jones kung fu kicked Paul Robinson in the 99th minute to win you a penalty. I left that game and spent the next three hours shouting about how we were getting relegated to everyone who would listen...

Tbf not one other team would take 1.9k that distance in this division to a ground they've been many times before.

I was expecting having to shell out £15 so for it to only be £10 I'm quite happy about. Already seen people on Facebook not happy about it being £25, or with an increase on the day.

I've not been to the DW with Rovers yet (I was away last year) so all I can go off is results; there's been a lot of goals yeah, unfortunately you always score more than us

We'll probably bring around 3k or whatever it was a couple of seasons ago, although we sold out in the cup no chance we would in the league unless it was for promotion or a title etc.

Something wrong if Bradford and Blackburn don't get close to 2000 average at the end of the season with all the short journeys they'll be making. Not including Wigan cos their away support is generally shit anyways.

You’ve never seen a sub 1k Wigan away following at NYS so you can knock that on the head.

One was your first ever visit to NYS so new ground factor boosts the following and the other was on boxing day. If you bring 1500 plus again this season then fair play but im expecting your to be top of the league or there abouts anyways.

Donny have sold around 700 for the trip to Charlton tomorrow. Decent numbers given our start to the season.

Scunthorpe sold just over 1k tomorrow at NYS, was expecting more seen as though it's their first visit and that far away.

I think you’re really overestimating our fanbase. We haven’t won in 3 and are playing truly dire football. I don’t see why we’d bring more.

'all the short journeys'. There's Rochdale, Bury, Blackpool, Wigan, Fleetwood and Oldham. Blackpool limited us to 2200 tickets and now it's been moved to the arse end of November so won't have more than 1500ish. Fleetwood will only give us 1000. We took 3250 to Rochdale and are taking 3500+ to Oldham. Wigan have given us 2800 which we should sell.

Then there's games like Portsmouth away on a Tuesday night in February that will push the average down. Only 5 Championship clubs averaged over 2k last season, we averaged 964. Why would that increase by over 100% in the division below, regardless of an increase in local grounds?

You only lost to top 2 teams in the league recently but you beat Portsmouth and Donny so you can't be playing that bad.

Big club like yourselfs should sell out all those local games regardless. Rochdale, Bury, and Oldham all can offer 3k plus for away fans and Wigan can offer 5k so thats 3.5k average to start with at least then you got Bradford which isn't far and most of the other teams you haven't played for along time aswel.

Portsmouth and Donny who are both shocking. We’re playing such a negative brand of football. You’ll get to experience the joys of it on Saturday.

Wigan may well offer 5k but we haven't taken that for years because we play them almost every year, and haven't won there in 8 attempts. Our Bradford following was lower than expected yes but before the game we were 22nd in the league. Our away support isn't great either, it's been consistently average for years and has only risen in 2017 with the threat of relegation when every game meant so much, and now new local grounds. Our second half of the season is bereft of local games, our average before the New Year will be larger than normal because of the way the fixtures are.

Question for you Reaper.
What should and what do you think Rotherhams average away attendance should be?
Similar size town to Blackburn.
Newly relegated with Blackburn.
25% smaller home average.
Good location to many league 1 clubs.
current league position good.
Just curious.

Be disappointing if we didn't get above 1k average if we carry on the current form but we don't have many local derbies like your have so we haven't a chance of competing against you lot this season.

We have essentially 4 new local derbies, 2 that we've sold over 3000 for, 1 that we will sell a similar amount for and one that we will sell out @ 1k-ish. Wigan we play loads and Blackpool we've played a few times and it's a Tuesday night in November.

Anyone who averages above 1k is doing good.
We obviously have a distinct advantage on numbers due to our location.
Even with promotion 2k is optimistic, I would guess at 1.6k.
