No need to shout. Methinks the loony doth protest too much.

So will Port Vale fans be able to hold their load in this time if they win the first match of next season?

Needs to be first couple of games as we are massively on the longest unbeaten opening day record in the EFL/PL of 17 years now. Mahusive!

We've claimed for a long time that we have a bottom six budget at this level and often just sound happy to be solvent, but we don't need to do too much in the transfer market this summer having assembled a squad from scratch last summer. Chris Beech says he hopes that '98%' of the current squad will still be with us next year.

Right on cue. Death, taxes, and CUFC directors releasing a statement along the lines of 'we have a bottom six budget'.

Chris Beech's interview after our game last week tickled me because he started to talk about how clubs have spent more than Carlisle, and began to intimate that Cheltenham had spent loads, before checking himself when he remembered that earlier that week Duff had said in his interview that we were 17th in the League in terms of budget.

It's the second time he's said of Cheltenham specifically that they have a big budget. He doesn't say it about many other opponents but seems to think that Liam Sercombe in particular is proof you have a lot of money

He wasn't the only one, John Yems did it earlier in the season, implying we had a squad of about 40.

Sercombe only plays for us because we're local. The same as Matty Blair (relatively speaking).

Always guessing as our CEO explained, clubs get to know which budget position their club is... so Port Vale may be 12th for example but they are not told the position of the other clubs... so it’s down to either guess work or other owners telling them

Decent online fans forum tonight with Flitcroft, Conlon, Clarke and Carol.

The Dazzler was in fine form! Flickers was asked when Danny Mayor is coming in and what number is he to wear and he was saying he’s a Plymouth player etc and DC shouted out number 11! All good fun.

Clarke was the usual diplomat on the aims of promotion... then popped Loo and Carol said “I want promotion!”

Some interesting points though aside.

EFL have told clubs to prepare to start next season with home and away fans but have a back up plan in case so looks as though they hope restrictions will be gone.

DC thinks Rodney could become a 20 goal man next season! Diplomatic on us paying for one! But looks like we are going after 4 or 5 strikers and new signings are going to be data analysed to avoid the injuries of this season.

New training ground plans progressing and looked at a few sites.

Conlon seems happy and wants to stay... Vale not looking to let him go and talking about a new deal.

Retained list next week.

Biggest news though is Andy Crosby is in talks as we look to make him permanent. He came in the week before we started to crazy winning run and the AC/DC partnership in the dug out seems to be very good. Worry he goes with Nigel Atkins but looks as though talks are positive.

Cant wait to get Mansfield out of the way and the start planning for next season under this new proper footballing structure we have. Could be an interesting summer ahead.

It's another of his poor excuses.

Chris Beach simply doesn't understand that there are no bad teams, only bad leaders.

Summers are always interesting.

It’s the rest of the year that is, generally, shite.

Amen to that. The excitement when you sign a left back and convince yourself he’ll be good etc etc

You’d think we would know better by now. Every pre season is the same. Loads of spurious links, sign a few, scour previous club’s forum to see what their fans think of him - usually ‘he’s shite’. Unfortunately, most of the time they’re right too!

sounds like just about ever clubs fans apart from Salford (no fans) and Harrogate (fans - but haven't figured out the internet in any number yet)

And after one pre-season game against Loughborough Uni: "He's easily Championship standard!"

saw Loughborough Uni play in the late 1980's when they beat my Uni (Kent) in the Uni Football final at St Albans. Ex-Barrow player Andy Cale played for Loughborough.
They are probably NLN/S or the league below standard....
I'm guessing it was Masi51 who got over excited?

He was implying the ref gave us a lot - I don't recall any big decisions though. Your reporter intimated Chris Hussey should have been sent off as well. Again, I didn't recall any incident.

Haha I remember 2007 Pre Season... Beat Man United XI 3-2 (They had Rossi and Campbell up front), Destroyed Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 and sure we beat another 2nd tier side...

Promotion it was to be.... well no relegated in 23rd (only spared the wooden spoon by Luton getting a deduction!)

That said when Pope hit 33 goals in 2012/13 he was on fire in pre season as we battered a load of Irish part timers!

We picked up a lot of bookings in that game despite not being especially dirty, I can't remember exactly what the Chris Hussey thing was but think it was along the lines of 'if that's a booking then why is that not also a booking'.

I'm sure he was raving about that left-back from Dagenham after seeing him play against some students, but this was just a general comment about us fans getting overly excited. I remember thinking Elliott Newby was going to be the best player in non-league after scoring some belters against Kendal...

talking of which i wonder if we'll be in for Alex Newby if Rochdale release him - he scored a fair few in L1 this season...

i’m sure the mansfield and swindon fans will take an active interest in flitcroft.

For the love of god don’t let him near your side/decision making after february, chokes faster than the french army
