If it was anyone other than Slade I'd say our manager would be on the brink after what we've seen so far but John's mate Russ has a few more months of piss poor results in him yet. Fenty will look a right clown (hard to believe he can look anymore like one) if he sacks his Bignot upgrade so early. What's funny is that he swapped Bignot's long term vision for Slade's short term success!!!

I think our results will improve but not necessarily our performances, which will be enough to keep Slade about.

Recruiting players that even he promptly dropped in the last 'window' saw only two wins from nineteen as we were shit out of L1 like blood stained diarrhoea rather than merely relegated. And now, after a summer that saw season ticket sales fall by a quarter - and several hundred of them not bothering for the last home game - one from six means the football abyss beckons.

Port Vale would be justified in sacking Brown. Four straight defeats following a relegation and the alarm bells must be ringing.

Four? It's five defeats now in a row (6 if you include Leeds in the cup but exclude the Checkatrade)

No goals scored since the second league game.

Rumours are that Brown had today and Tuesday away at Luton to save his job... one of them where if true losing to Luton would be the best outcome purely for the long term rather than buy him more time especially with more favourable fixtures coming up after.

Various rumours going about, Rob Page was in the stands today so may be nothing in that and although not favoured after his time with us it was a million times better than where we are now, also a potential return for Brian Horton, legend as a player, last trophy winning manager... not sure where that one has come from mind.

We are a complete mess, the lowest most fans have seen us, Coventry, Portsmouth etc have had more coverage maybe than us but we have been gutted from the inside out by our owner, a lot of fans did a hell of a lot to save this club from the last lot getting V2001 out, Micky Adams did wonders steering us through those dark days and the miracle promotion in 2012-13 and stabilising us towards the top of League One where we felt we belonged.

Yet again we are screwed over and our proud 141 year history is now heading to be no more than just history. To be honest usually I'd never miss Coventry away, it's less than 30 minutes from me and I drive 60 odd miles each way to most home games but I just couldn't be arsed with it, neither could 1000 more that would of travelled two years ago.

Wants to get his £6 million back rejected two £1.5 million offers which is realistic from local businesses who care.

When Brown got the gig full time in the summer I felt fairly positive that he could build his own squad so gave him a chance but this is beyond even the most negative Vale fans beliefs. We beat a really dire Crawley, fair play got done over by a decent Wycombe outfit but other than that we've not lost to anyone who's played or had to play that well to beat us.

Two years ago we beat Wigan, Sheffield United, took WBA all the way to penalties and beat Burnley... the fall from grace has been awful.

This club will die within a couple of years if things carry on. That is how bad it is.

Brown and Caldwell should wake up every morning thanking their lucky stars they are still in employment as for the life of me I don't see how.

Would be a bit more forgiving of Brown if he showed signs of learning lessons from previous mistakes but as with today naming four centre backs across the defence evidently not the case. He should be fired Monday not that am under any illusion that's what will happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cooper is skating on thin ice. FGR have had a shocking start to the season, shipping goals left, right and centre which I didn't expect. Their only win came against a leaky Yeovil side whose keeper let in a couple of soft ones. They've got some big games coming up, Lincoln at home, Port Vale away, Swindon at home in a local(ish) derby. Fail to win any of those 3 and I think Vince pulls the trigger.

Vince is very loyal, I think that comes from his lack of football knowledge more than anything else though. I don't see Cooper going unless they start to fall adrift at the bottom.

Johnson is safe at the moment as, even though we're not getting results, by and large we're playing well. If we're bottom after 10-15 games though, then I can see him walking, citing the aforementioned health issues.

To be honest I'd take Brian back, generally considered the brains behind Phil Brown and would surely be good enough to turn us around with the squad he has.

I note that 2 of our next 3 opponents are Port Vale and Chesterfield respectively both of whom are the 2 sides who come up most in this thread so far ,split by Wycombe away which is always a challenge since they have been under Ainsworth.

Apart from the fact we may very well play a part in giving the bullet to 2 of the divisions managers, if results go the other way in that little run given the backing NJ has had over the summer then he will come under pressure from some sections of our support. Not advocating for that to be clear to everyone but the pressure will certainly go up a few notches on him if we use history as a guide.

I think that is what is known as damning with faint praise. Seriously though I wouldn't be against it, always quite liked him and he had a very keen eye for a player. Gave us some great talents during his time like McPhee, Brooker and MBW etc. Does from memory though have a bit of a tendency to play players out of position, Brown has been pissing me off with that so that frustration may not be done with. Whether he would really want to leave a cushy number at Southend for the basket-case that is Vale is another story.

Wouldn't take any shit, used to sit behind him in the Lorne Street and would sort them out.

Had he not left when he did we may well have made the play offs that season we missed out on goal difference.

Our main priority above Smurf or anything else has to be to retain our league status then sort the off field in the summer with protests if need be. If Horton and Smurf have to come back to preserve that I will take it for now.
