I don't think Cooper will be in too much trouble at the minute.

On a personal level, his man-management skills are basically non-existent and he seems to fall out with anyone and anything. That's not great now when there's a transfer window and he can't chop and change players like he was doing at times last season. His best spells as a manager have been in the NL with Kettering where he had money and that he had at FGR. His best spell in the FL was at Swindon where he didn't have too much control over player recruitment and was told to coach. His Chairman there was in with Sherwood, hence the Spurs loans and I think it's fair to say that those loans were a big reason for their decent season(s).

I'm sure Vince will also understand that, as a club, the change was going to be difficult - certainly for the first year. I've taken these from your forum, but £2.5m wages on £1m turnover last year in the Conference, where there's no wage cap, to the FL where there's a cap of 55%(?) was always going to be an incredibly difficult transition. To balance those figures those isn't something that'll happen overnight.

Not sure whether FGR fans think the team are underperforming or whether his recruitment has been questionable?

I don't think FGR will gain an awful lot from getting rid yet, although I've heard nothing to suggest Vince would. He seems a Chairman who is probably too loyal at times (Hockaday).

Why do people think FGR chairman is loyal? Didn't he replace a manager who got them into the playoffs with Cooper during the playoffs? That doesn't seem loyal to me?

That was after a number of seasons in which Pennock had failed to get them up. He also gave Dave Hockaday a stupid amount of time as well. The Pennock sacking may mean he has changed tact, but the evidence so far is that he backs his managers.

It's 11.38. Why has he not gone yet?

Seems like something will be happening tomorrow according to SkySports the discussion between Smurf and Garlick will be then.

Genuine questions because I don't know answer.
Last season Mark Cooper signed five year contract which would make it an extraordinary expensive lump sum to sack him.
First question is: Can teams order their manger on gardening leave for a number of years to spread out that lump sum?
Second question: Can teams loan out their manager as they do with players?

Lol. Where would you like us to loan MC then?

Answer to both questions is no.

A "five year contract" may have a range of clauses to deal with early ending of the contract with different levels of payout in different circumstances or timing - including compensation to the employer if Cooper walks. In any case the parting would be negotiated, probably with LMA lawyer support for Cooper and possibly his agent, based on the terms of the contract. You may have to pay off the full contract value but you may well not.

I make it that he's got 14 points in his last 29

You were daft to go near him on the first place.'you've made some ridiculous managerial decisions of late, and trust me, I've seen a few!

And 6 of them were against us. Good for you guys though that your inept manager has gone, imagine things will turn quickly if get the replacement right. Now for Vale to do the same.

Should never have been given the job in the summer. Now please for once can we get the decision on the replacement right.

I very much doubt them two would be realistic. Can't see Smurthwaite paying them what they'd want.

Browns not a bad guy and tried his best and certainly wouldn't badmouth him personally but he is not a manager in a million years. I never thought I'd see someone who made Dean Glovers spell look good but he has somehow managed to go way beyond that.

Now imagine if Chesterfield hired Michael Brown and Port Vale hired Gary Caldwell to replace their old managers.

 Can't speak to Chesterfields ownership but I would certainly not put that against Vale to do something like that.

Great news, if several games too late. Now if I only had the confidence that we might recruit someone decent.
