This is truly the worst thing that’s ever happened to us as a club, I am heartbroken a month hasn’t even passed since he last stood on the touch line at the FA Trophy Final at Wembley - which turned out to be his last game.

He somehow in 18 months took a ship sailing into the abyss and turned it completely around.

To get us out the abyss that is the National League was one thing, but to build a team to win a league as manager of Leyton Orient is completely unheard of in these parts, we hadn’t won anything for 50 years and the man who managed to change that is cruelly taken from our world.

The scenes on the day we won the league will now forever bring a tear to my eye.

But most importantly the thoughts should go to his wife, 2 children, family and friends. 49 is no age at all.

RIP Gaffer and Thank you for all you did for us.

Apparently a very nice guy. Hundreds if not thousands of tweets paying tribute from clubs and supporters right down the pyramid.

I can’t believe what I’m reading. He seemed a genuinely decent guy. It’s horrible to see news like this, heartbreaking even. Condolences to his family, friends, players, colleagues and fans of Leyton Orient (and all the other clubs Justin managed and played for)

I’m just pleased he managed to achieve promotion for Orient, which was such a superb effort considering how bad things were. I know it must be so so hard for Orient fans, staff and players at the moment but he will always be remembered as the man who guided the team back to where they belong.

Very sad news, sympathy to his family and all Os fans. The guy’s left a legacy both at Orient and Newport getting those sides back into the FL and his illness came out of the blue. RIP Justin

Does it? The more "fit and healthy" folks are dying than ever, it certainly doesn't make me want to stop having a session at weekends, eat junk food and want to join a gym, fuck that.

He was very fit and healthy apparently, so not lifestyle related.

Sometimes it can be an undetected heart problem, often genetic, even if you're in good shape it's always worth getting your heart checked out if you ever feel a bit funny. Can't be too careful.

True. And although he had a bad start to the new season, his sacking was hastened by the 'Chinese investment' wanting a 'name' in charge. (JFH)

That's awful. Always puts things into perspective when someone passes away in football while still at the height of their ability as a player or manager. More so after such a successful season for him.

Did he even have that sort of ‘warning’ before he was taken ill on Tuesday? If not, that’s even more chilling.

Big hugs from everyone at Pools.

His death has hit me as my dad died in similar circumstances at 43, fit and reasonably healthy then one day had a brain hemorrhage while swimming and that was that. He'd been complaining of migraine for years but just brushed it off, never really got it looked at. Just take a painkiller and get on with it. Turned out after death he'd had an aneurysm since birth. Without trying to speculate, it's likely something hidden caused this as well. I know what his family are going through, it'll be really tough and they'll need lots of good people around them. You supporters can play your part in helping them out as well.

Go and have a bloody good season and do it all in his honour. All the best.
