A thread for all us hatters, in the Premier league.
Nice little earner for your club, but begs the question would you rather watch your team winning in the Championship or losing in the premiership?

Another ex Barnsley player!

From reading about him seems right up our street, hard worker who doesn’t stop running in the press, well liked and seems a good character. We aren’t going to have the ball a lot this season and there’s going to be tough times so that will be important. Definitely seems a good option to have alongside Morris and Adebayo

Watching it, tough to get the entire story in under an hour but it did a decent job.

What a bloody story it is too, beyond the realms of fantasy really.

Nervous for the season, not for the worry over if we will take some pastings, or if we will stay up to be honest it would be a miracle (we’ve done a few of those though) its if we will lose a bit of who we are with the money and egos at this level. Bit cliche and perhaps a touch soppy but really hope we all stick together through this, don’t forget who we are and what it was that got us here.

Gary Sweet and Lockyer made all the right noises at the end so let’s hope so

Tough lesson today. Felt like their dodgy penalty really changed the nature of the game quite drastically. We were hanging in there at 1-0 trying to keep it a tight game and see if we could nick something late, but 2-0 we wobbled and probably over committed, which I think we will learn we can’t do at this level. As for that penalty. What is the point of VAR if that is being given and not looked at? I understand that the standard at this level is much softer but really?

Our penalty felt harsh too, but one of those handballs that is being given at this moment in the game for some reason. Going to need another centre half if we are to have a chance realistically you feel. 4-1 feels harsh but quality at this level will do that to you and you cannot be giving stupid goals like Pelly did. We put up a fight and for that we can be proud

We’re going to need more than just “fight” to stay up at this level.

I actually watched the 1991 season video back on YouTube yesterday morning. There were some real pumpings in that season too… like weeks on end where Luton would pick up almost no points. But then the odd victory keeps them with the pace. Going to be a very similar situation I feel.

Absolutely it’s to be expected. Points on the road will be very few and far between you feel too

Yep, first of many spankings on the road. We need to learn fast. Nakamba was shocking and thats not like him. He is vital to us having any sort of chance. Thought we were gonna come out of it with a slim loss but they upped the gears found all our space as we lost our heads and shape a little and bam bam 2-1 becomes a thrashing as you get punished

Felt Nakamba poor performance was symptomatic of a general imbalance in midfield. He got drawn into bad presses because of it.

Got to be honest not sure Chong is a centre midfielder in a 3, certainly didn’t seem to have the right instincts off the ball for me and that drew Nakamba to try and cover that a little bit. Nakamba got caught ahead of the ball a couple of times because he was covering Chong, in our shape that is probably about the worst thing that can happen.

Chong did some nice things on the ball in starting some counters but given the majority of games this season we won’t have the ball, he’s going to need to learn what and where he needs to be. Hopefully he will learn quickly as that sort of thing just didn’t happen last season and was a big big reason we were so defensively solid.

He made a bad mistake for the 3rd goal certainly but he plays an important structural role in the team shape.

It’s a funny one that because of that mistake he will be called out (perhaps fairly) but it’s probably Chong and his off ball naivety at the position that was more of an issue for us on the day, imo anyway.

Chong and nakamba need their roles ironed out..
Chong stays as an attacking midfielder and nakamba stays as a defensive midfielder
Barkley,when fit,should play alongside Chong
We look strong on our left with doughty and Giles going forward..,
The right side looks weaker
Brown’s cameo role looked promising

It would be a scandal not to give it a proper craic!!!

4-1 looks bad there were a couple of late goals and another being a penalty against a side who will probably do well again.

Probably a shame you aren't playing next week tbh.

Who is your next game against?

I actually think its good for us to have the week off. Some stuff to work on on the training ground, some time to bring in an extra defender (i hope), and also get some fitness into Andersen who didnt look fully right to me.

Agreed. Bit of a strange one, he’s been a wide player/number 10 i believe most his career and we seem to want him to be a creative number 8. Might work in an attacking sense but he really needs work on his off ball stuff if it’s going to be a success imo. Still Jordan Clark made a similar transition.

I thought Pelly played well and his style will suit the Prem. He will rightly be a solid mainstay in the side. The error for the goal was all his, but came from two new players without experince of what theyd expect. Pelly got caught in three minds. Giles it was i think stepped off to the side of the goal on the line and he thought about a pass to him, or back to the keeper then clear it and in that split second indecision its a goal. Once they are familiar with each other that prob doesnt happen

He’s played right back in his career and in midfield which would indicate I think that he’ll be the right sided centre half. Could work quite well as we often ask that player to overlap into midfield which Burke is fantastic at, but unfortunately seems to be made of tissue paper
