Well here it is - Macc's first home game in the FL, the reward for a season's hard work and hopefully a bumper August crowd in attendance to add to the atmosphere.

Both ourselves and Grimsby come into this off the back of defeats, both letting in a fair few goals in the process. Obviously if this was being played at Blundell Park then it would be a guaranteed Silkmen victory but Saturday's game could really go either way, with a Macc win probably slightly more likely. I'll be conservative and predict a 0-0 draw.

As we managed to get our whole seasons worth of mistakes out of the way in one game we should piss this, 6-0 I reckon.

Sod the result, I'll take actually having a game plan and players knowing where they should be and what they should be doing. McKeown, Collins, Dixon, Clifton, Woolford and Cook out for Russell, Famewo, Fox, Hall-Johnson, Hessenthaler and Vernam please.

Intrigued to see how we set up as don't think Yates is close to knowing what our best 11 is yet. Would like to see Lowe back in (for Grimes who was caught out several times), Rose dropped, two wingers, and Evans back in to at least the squad.

Yeah I agree, i think there are probably 7 or 8 players who pick themselves but the others are really key to complimenting them.

I'd too like to see Lowe back in, if fit i'd want Lloyd back into the middle/left giving some more energy, and then figure out what/who the support for Smith should be.

Maybe something like:
Taylor

Hodgkiss
Lowe
Kelleher
Fitz

Maycock

Athur
Whitaker
Lloyd

Wilson
Smith

I'd have Vincenti starting if he's fit enough. Agree with the rest though.

I'm expecting a big response to that calamity last week, a good performance with players being played in correct positions hopefully, Vernam needs to start and I'd stick Hooper on the wing as that's when he's most dangerous.
Felt sorry for Cook last week as it seemed nobody wanted to pass to him and he had to feed off scraps so I'd be tempted to give him another go.

The worry I have for this game though is I hear Macc have this lightning quick wonder kid chomping at the bit for a start and we may struggle to contain him, some guy called Danny Whitaker.

We simply have to drop this 3-5-2 formation. Not saying it can't work with the right players, in fact I think it could be very effective, but, and it's a big but (which I like and can't deny), we're at least 2 players short of making it work. Jolley needs to revert to the 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation that worked so well for us at the end of last season as our players suit it much better. We don't have any true centre forwards, except maybe Cardwell but he is still a work in progress and currently injured, so we need to stick with 1 up top. That could be Cook or Vernam, with the other playing as inside right forward/advanced wide midfielder, with Hooper in the same position on the left, who was a mini revelation in that position at the end of last season.

For me:

......................McKeown..................

R H-J.......Davis........Collins.......Fox

.........Hess'ler...Welsh...Rose.........

Cook.....................................Hooper
......................Vernam....................

Subs
Russell
Famewo
Whitmore
Dixon
Clifton
Woolford
Roblee

I forgot Grimsby have got Harry Davis at the heart of the defence, they're doomed!

Jolley won’t be dropping the 3-5-2 after one self-destructive performance.

Also, 3 predictions from teams not even involved! We must be popular for some reason.

I agree Jolley won't and shouldn't drop his 352 system. This is a work in progress that will take numerous transfer windows to accomplish. If it doesn't work over the next handful of games then he might shelf it until January but it's clear that this is what he wants to do. We have a history of hounding the shit out of managers for playing anything but 442 and it's got to stop.

Jolley has to play a better team than he did last week. It's nice having a strong bench but what can they do at 4-1 down? I think we'll see the same system but with RHJ, Hess and hopefully Vernam starting. Fox if he's fit.

I'm giving the team the benefit of the doubt regarding last week. We obviously played terribly but we were still somewhat in the game until Kit Gate put them 2-1 up. That put even more wind in FGRs sails while we went the opposite way. If that didn't happen, I'd like to think we see out at least a point. Hopefully we've cut out our dramatic errors for now and we can stay in the game for 90 minutes. I'd take a draw today accompanied with a much better performance.

Wow looking through this your team on paper is horrendous, and even worse on grass judging by last week.

Macc very unlucky last week losing in the dying moments. Grimsby very lucky only to lose 4-1.

Home win.

Might come as a surprise but not every team in the division is unsubstainably chucking the kitchen sink at a promotion charge.

Do educate us on our lineup though, please. Interested on hearing your expert opinions on the likes of Vernam, Famewo, RHJ, etc. Bet you must have seen them play a fair bit, right? Probably didn't go to Northampton because you were tuning into our match on iFollow.

Got your ticket for BP next weekend, Impish? Yep, didn't think so. Bet you've got your Sky subscription paid up ready for the Brighton game on Sunday though haven't you?:lol:

Go a bit easy on Impish SOC, he's still a bit tired as he didn't get back from Old Trafford until the early hours of the morning.

Couldn't tell you who Brighton are playing. Yep got my ticket for next week thanks very much, as usual.

Are you pleased with your squad then is that what you're saying?

Already created more so far today than we did in 90+ minutes vs Forest Green.

"as usual", does that mean we should only be expecting about 600 or so of you?

No, I didn't say that about our squad. I'm waiting for your in depth analysis, seeing as you're an expert on us.

Yesssss screamer from Jordan Cook. 0-1 Town! Hit the post and had the ball cleared off the line just before that too.

Much, much better performance so far. Looking a lot more comfortable in possession and playing a bunch of neat stuff on the floor, especially in the build up to the goal.

Same half time score as last week but worlds apart performance wise, whatever happens second half I think the belief is back now as we’re showing just how well we can play when we get it right, great stuff keep it up town.

Well deserved lead for Grimsby, lucky its only 1. Amazed he's stuck with the same team playing Rose and Maycock as our midfield; neither look good enough for this level. Good do with a Grimsby special own goal as not sure where our goals are coming from.

That was pretty shit. Not created a single chance. Changes needed for second half methinks.

Don't worry, it's the 2nd half when we start giving them away!

Mitch Rose sent off, commentators don't really know what for? Sounds harsh.
