Macclefield or Stevenage, which one goes?

Really hope it goes in Maccs favour. Getting relegated could kill them off completely I fear. Also Stevenage after how they did last season have no business surviving on a technicality.

Does seem to me the EFL are doing their best to relegate Macc though so they can absolve any responsibility on this.

I know I sound like a broken record, but it's such an obvious, and important, point that you'd have to be seriously thick not to have realised the impact it could have further down the line. I'm still genuinely gobsmacked that those at the EFL, presumably half intelligent people, didn't spot the error in their proposals and even more gobsmacked that only one club brought it to their attention. It's pretty basic common sense and maths.

Stevenage seem to be signing players like they haven't a care in the world, must be pretty confident it's going to be a resolved in their favour.

Thing is that they deducted Macclesfield points, but Stevenage managed to find a new level of shit to drop to. So they deducted more points from Macclesfield and once again Stevenage managed to limbo beneath the newly lowered bar that had been set.

If the concern is that Macclesfield didn't suffer as a result of the points deduction then forget about it this season, you can't just keep deducting points until you reach a level that even Stevenage can't sink to. Deduct the points next season instead.

Prosser is a great signing for them too, I hope Macc stay they had a half decent side whereas Boro were dire, lets be honest if you couldn't stay up ahead of a side with that many points deducted you dont deserve to survive in the EFL!

But....what is interesting though is that the Macc fans forum is pretty much agreed that Macc are more likely to stay up; while the Stevenage one is even more unanimous in thinking that it's Boro who will go down.

I hope the fans are right! The wisdom of crowds and that....

I'm far from convinced we'll come out of this still in L2.

So many points already been touched on above but the EFL are doing everything they can to get rid.

The PPG calculation is surely open to legal debate so even if they get the result they want i'd expect us to appeal. My concern is, as someone says, how come no body voted for it to be decided the other way? I do genuinely believe there are a number of clubs in this league who also want us gone and have been in the ear of the EFL all the way through this. It's a shame, but I guess it is understandable in a way.

The only hope I have is that we've recently brought in a new commercial manager, a new addition to the senior leadership team, the owner has been removed from chairman role, and we've started arranging pre-season friendlies - which hopefully means there has been some kind of positive discussions with the EFL following the delivery of our business plan at the end of July.

I think the decision will be made today one way or another, and then depending on who's favour it goes in will decide when we hear about it. Wigan's appeal result was announce on the same day as it went in EFL's favour where as we've previously had to wait a few days for the full decision and typed up report from the independent commission, so who know's when we'll find out. It would be good of the club to at least post something on the official site this evening with an update but it's unlikely they will.

We have to hope that the independent commission see it that way also and have some decency in not allowing the EFL just to "get what they want". We've committed crimes, for which we've been punished (more than we should have due to PPG). I do still think that there is this misconception that we didnt pay wages due to not having money - we had the money just the crooked owner decided to keep it for himself and move it around his accounts to cover other stuff for himself. He's now no longer in control of club finances so hopefully this is a big tick for us in appeasing the EFL.

When the initial decision was made didn't the panel admit that they went easy on Macc because enacting the points deduction would relegate them?

If so it's easy to see why this appeal has been successful. You can't vary a clearly defined punishment just because the outcome might be worse depending on league position.

The scrots at the EFL have got what they wanted, they clearly didn't want anything to do with Macclesfields current owner.

I've been following football for 27 years and this is easily the luckiest thing I've ever seen happen to a football club - because Stevenage were rock bottom with only 3 wins and saved partly by a Pandemic.

Having said that, Stevenage will point to 1996 when they was unfairly not allowed promotion to the League.

Feel for Macclesfield and their fans, what an absoulte farce and its taken months to get to this.
