Still appointment is as safe and sensible as Barnet are likely to get? A sound appointment on the face of it.

Allen will be gutted, mind. Chances of him returning to Barnet this season will reduce drastically if Still takes it.

Don't underestimate the ability of our chairman to screw up managerial situations. He moved Still upstairs first time around to bring in Tony Cottee (boo Cottee out!), and we were relegated 7 months later.

Allen back with John Still now DoF *shudder*

I’m pleased about this. He knows this league better than anyone else and he’s always had this ability to pluck out players who are unpolished diamonds and go onto great things later on.
Yes, the football during his first spell with us was often reductive and dull but that was earlier on in his managerial career and he got Daggers and then Luton to play in a very different way.
What is just as important is that we’ve not dithered over this appointment.

John Still confirmed on a 2 year deal.

On balance I'm happy enough with this. We've cried out for stability and he will give us that, but also we should still be challenging for promotion.

The chairman said that the budget would increase when there was talk of Allen staying, so that needs to happen.

I think we're in a much stronger position now off the field with Still in charge, and as good on it if Allen stayed. So, reasons to be cheerful...

There was also some really good football in his time here too. The start of the season we were relegated, we played Shrewsbury off the park, had a belter of a game with Mansfield, should have beaten Cardiff when we let in two late goals, and had a cracker against Lincoln, coming from 3 goals down.

Good point about taking a chance on lower level talent - he'll also be more likely to want to develop the younger players, unlike Allen.

I remember those Shrewsbury and Mansfield matches, we did play some lovely stuff. A Shrewsbury Town fan friend of mine said that an acquaintance of his put a bet on Barnet to win Division 3 after that match!

If he does his job and gets us back into the Football League at the first time of asking then I wouldn't begrudge him of seeking a better deal elsewhere come the end of the season...

I think most CFC fans understand this is a short term thing, we need someone with NL experience and he fits the bill, when we're back in the FL our sights will be set a little higher than Martin Allen I'd have thought!

You may be down here for a while.

I am not a fan of Still and I worry whether his age is going to be a problem

Still commented last night that this year would have been his last in football if the finances hadn’t screwed up. He didn’t want his last job to be taken out of his hands apparently. I don’t see him at Barnet for more than a year, 2 max.

John Still is a great appointment for Barnet, knows how to play football the right way too. Top 7 finish guaranteed for Barnet!

Tony Kleanthous clearly only has two football contacts in his contacts list: Mad Dog (On speed dial) and Bald Eagle.

Can’t knock Still’s Conference credentials. Can he take a 4th side up from the Conference? Would be an incredible achievement.

Should be a safe pair of hands to get us challenging at the top end of the table. Think he’ll have to go some to win over many Barnet fans though. His previous record at Barnet was mixed and post-Cottee he was taking us down out of the Conference before he was sacked.

No idea of his credentials but I wonder if Darren Currie has or will join Still? Hugely popular figure amongst Bees fans so would be a hugely positive move.

Certainly knew how to balls up a £1.3m budget this season did Mr Still. He plays hoofball nothing changed there, when it works fine when it don’t its awful with no plan b. Let’s hope a new manager leaves at least one up at corners.

Some bullshitting going on somewhere.

Michael Nelson signs for Chesterfield and says he was never offered a new contract at Barnet. May 8th though, Allen says that he's met all the players and Nelson has been offered a new contract. Seems strange that Allen had the authority to release players and take up options, but it didn't extend to this player.

Sad way for it to end as when he was at the club, Nelson was a very good pro. Not one that I would have kept this year, but can still offer something in a coaching and part time playing role.

Personally I loved his weird messages to the fans when he was with us, it gets boring after a while though I'll admit.

Take care.

I'd be finding this incredibly funny except every bad result increases the chances of that twat ending up back with us.

The issues at this club are far bigger than MA, as much of a car crash as this is turning out to be. He is absolutely useless, and totally lost the plot BUT still we've other things to worry about sadly.
