Then each season there’ll be two leagues of 10 teams where they play each other home and away. Top three sides from each league go directly into knockout stage. 4th and 5th in each league go into home and away play offs, winners go into knockout stage too. Then home and away format knockout thereafter.

So that makes 18 games per season for the 15 “elite”, then up to nine more in play offs/knockouts.

All about player tiredness then.

At least we are now the 2nd biggest football club in Merseyside after Everton, since Liverpool are now just a business that plays football for money

To be fair Bolton wanted a closed shop Prem so can’t moan about this.
No a employee of Bolton wanted a close shop.......The owner and the club over ruled him

I am glad you said club though i think Marine and Southport have a case as the 2nd biggest club.
You are proberbly now the 4th best club on Merseyside after Everton, Everton reserves and Everton ladies

play them at their own game.

Tax them if they want to play in an unsanctioned league. i think BT said this would increase revenues from around 200m a year if you win a prem or a champions league to 320m a year. So lets charge the bastards 100m each if tehy want to play in this league. otherwise they can have a 40 point deduction each season they want to compete.

that will teach these scumbags all about how exciting the relegation race is.

I think they have carefully picked the time to launch this proposal, when there are no fans in the ground and little chance of any protests interfering with what is happening on the pitch.

Those of us whose team has recently played in the National League may remember a bit of an issue with BT Sport, who were not particularly popular with fans and a moderate level of dissent was shown during games...it was really odd to watch a game on the channel where they had replaced the sound from the stadium with something that sounded like a day at the seaside, just to block out the dissent.

I think we all know that the teams at the top are run as businesses, akin to a cash cow, to generate money from a global audience. If anyone believes the Chair and owners of Mancarsechelspurpool give a toss about teams at our level, and the wonderful football pyramid in our country, I think they might be disappointed.

One thing that strikes me as odd about this whole thing is that it's only Juve and the two Milan clubs from Serie A. You'd have thought that with the likes of Spurs involved then Roma and Napoli at least would have also been approached. Maybe even Atalanta? Does that mean that they weren't approached, or they've rejected it like PSG, Bayern and Dortmund?

Anyway fuck 'em. Relegate all 6 Prem teams down to the Championship, promote the top 5 and have the playoffs for this season from 6th to 9th place. Ban them from next season's CL too, this Super League isn't happening next season so hit them where it hurts until it starts.

RB Leipzig have rejected it too apparently, so maybe other clubs not mentioned like Roma and Napoli have done the same.

The only way this works is if fans watch it. I agree with banning all those clubs from any other competition.

Ah right, didn't know that about Leipzig. Seems odd praising them and PSG, but fair play to all clubs that have rejected it. Any kind of faction in the ranks puts a huge spanner in the works, keeping FIFA, UEFA and the domestic governing bodies on the same side is surely key to stopping this.

Does make me laugh how teams like AC Milan and Arsenal are involved, those teams haven't qualified for the CL on merit for years, and now they think they deserve to be in this permanently even if they are shit year after year.

I'm wondering what the appetite for this might be, I lost interest in the Champions League several years ago, can't remember the last time I watched a game from it on the telly...when was the Spurs versus Liverpool final, think that might have been the last one. A closed or restricted league where the same teams keep playing against each other will soon lose attraction for many.

One of the best things about the Premier League is that all teams can aspire to playing in it, though I accept that the reality for the majority of fans is that it will never happen...but in football you have to dream!

I enjoy the CL, some of the matches in it during the QF were great watches, those two PSG-Bayern games as was the City-Dortmund. City v PSG should be a cracker as well.

It definitely isn't perfect but you want to see the top players and managers coming up against each other and producing top quality matches, but not in a closed shop system.

A lot of people have been saying this about the CL but it's a constant source of quality games if you put the time in. The semis in that Spurs v Liverpool final season were absolutely batshit crazy exciting. PSG sticking it to Bayern in the last round as well was great, then you've got the likes of RBL and Atalanta coming through as relative newbies.

It's gonna be hilarious when 7 games into the new 2028/29 season Spurs have fuck all to play for and they're taking 132 fans to the San Siro because they've been there twice every season for half a decade.

Aston Villa have won the European Cup, and are a big historic club with a huge fanbase. Why do they not deserve to be part of this, but teams like Man City, Spurs and Arsenal; who have never won the the competition in their entire history deserve to be in it.

Ah the lesser Forest...

Yeah just using Villa as an example, you could chuck plenty of others in there who have historically been as big or bigger then the so called big 6.

Indeed. Ajax have got more European Cup/CL trophies than Spurs, Arsenal, City, PSG, Atletico, Chelsea and Juve combined...

Let them go. Fuck em.
The efl cup will no doubt disappear if it happens as they ( the elite prem teams ) never wanted it anyway.
We got to the semi final 3 years ago, and it gives hope to all teams at our level but let’s be honest it’s not what premier clubs want. They want a closed shop playing the European elite. Not having mid week games at small clubs.

Hope it all falls flat on its face, although I think it’s posturing to get a better cl deal and this is part of the play.
I personally couldn’t give a shit about them. The circles these clubs move in is so far removed from my world as a Burton fan.
Our chairman is a local lad and understands what football means to a community.
Do these shithouses care ? Of course not. When bored then will move onto cryptocurrency and these clubs will be left saddled with massive debt and their cap in hand asking to come back.
fuck em.

I mean we've actually been in more European finals that Man City have in the last few decades and as many as Tottenham.

Super League haha!

Got no sympathy for some lower league clubs fans denouncing this. Same lower league clubs fans who constantly are against measures to make English football more sustainable with a "spend what you want" attitude. There's only one way where that attitude leads.

It should never be about money, it should be about getting 11 lads to play for the shirt each week but a lot of fans even at non league levels are happy to dickwave about budgets every season. They're almost as bad as these horrible American owners who are hellbent on ruining the nature of English football.
