Making goonerz cry
The problem with United is there's no one in that team that's unlikeable. They're all a bit dull but you don't hate them like the teams Fergie had playing for him.

There's always Rooney.

The draw is a fair result - neither team deserved to win that. United created the best two chances with the Lingard effort that hit the bar and the Smalling effort which Hart saved well.

Both defences were solid. Otamendi in particular had a very good game.

I have to say that the newly-christened "£55m bargain" that is Kevin De Bruyne was shite.

I'm absolutely disgusted with that. It's the first game I've ever been really really disappointed with Pelligrini in. He prides himself on the style of football his teams play, so why did we set ourselves out like this?

United are toothless up front, but we didn't even try to win. Our strengths is our attack, and we took the front 4 players out the game completely since we had no ambition to try and score a goal. And they were there for the taking.

Disgusted.

I reckon City will feel slightly lucky to get the draw they so obviously came for.

We werent amazing but should have had a pen, Smalling and Lingard were both very close to scoring.

Can't believe someone earlier in the thread was blaming the lack of chances on United, we tried to win the game. City on the other hand took off Yaya Toure to bring on a Cb to partner the two cloggers in midfield. Ultra negative.

United aren't sparkling but Van Gaal gets more criticism than he deserves, we aren't a negative side we are a possession side who emphasises quality of chance over quantity. He's doing a good job.

Still baffling Rooney stayed on, had a decent first half and I dont mind him playing despite him not being what he was. But given how good Martial we really should have given him 15 minutes up front with Depay coming on out wide. Rooney being untouchable in this form is just baffling.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

Crap game but these hyped up things often are. Good to get a clean sheet again and move back to the top. Get Silva back with Aguero hopefully not to far behind and kick on.

Yeah Pellegrini definitely pussied out cos City were away. De Bruyne should obviously just fill the gap made by Silva and Bony in for Aguero. He doesn't need to play De Bruyne out of position and go for a negative setup.
The Chilean is probably happy getting a point though. On reflection, he should be cos Utd had the only chances I saw.

You didn't have a shot in the first half did you?

Could be argued that City could have had a pen too. Body checking someone to the ground is a foul anywhere else on the pitch.

Meek attacking performance from us, City were there for the taking in the second half.

I agree. We were a disgrace.

That was definitely a missed opportunity, we should've won that.

But we're not going to do anything of note with Rooney leading the line, he lacks the physical attributes required. There wasn't even some interchanging, Martial spending the whole game on the touchline is a joke.

Martial offered three or four pieces of quality at least and he was played out on the wing when most would agree that his best position is up front.

I remember one nice touch from De Bruyne and that was that.

Silva and Aguero would have quite possibly made the difference today - it's hard to tell. Aguero would certainly have offered more than Bony did though.

Still can't be dropped and can't be subbed.

I reckon he practices some kind of black magic.

Rooney needs dropped. I reckon a few games out could actually help him. Completely toothless at the moment, losing the ball nearly every time he got it.

We should have won that game today.

Stockport County.
City one of the most negative teams to come to Old Trafford in years. Their front three cost 140m as well. Pellegrini can never, ever slate Mourinho again for parking the bus.

Like has been said, if Martial had played central and Memphis or Young out wide with Rooney at home playing in his back garden, United would have won. Rooney made it far too easy for Kompany and Otamendi. He's totally and utterley finished.

Martial got one, one-on-one opportunity with Kompany all day and Kompany shat himself.

It was criminal that Martial was forced wide to do the hard work of creating space and chances and wasn't given a chance to recieve the ball in a scoring position.

Very annoyed thinking back about this game today. We would have won if we lined up differently. As Stocky has said, Martial's directness and pace in behind would have been a nightmare for Kompany/Otamendi. Instead they had to deal with a player reminiscent of a Sunday League player.

"We would have won if we'd lined up differently" could be applied to either side though. De Bruyne down the middle would have provided much more threat from them. Fact is neither of you did, for whatever reason both sides decided against playing the way most of us would rather have seen.
