Smalling is superb. Not only has he turned into a commanding, composed defender but also a leader. Seeing his progression since van Gaal took over has been great and he's now one of the first names on the team sheet. I love watching him play.

A very important win against a good side. Memphis, Mata and Martial were brilliant but Rooney was awful. I'm a Rooney sympathizer but I have to say I think we'd be a better side without him.

Also, van Gaal is shit at substitutions, I find myself disagreeing with his in game tactics more often than not. Memphis' pace was our biggest outlet and Schweinsteiger's composure was needed. If he got his subs right the final 20-15 minutes would've been far more comfortable.

I'm a Rooney sympathizer but I have to say I think we'd be a better side without him.

I've also always backed Rooney but with his good/bad game ratio there's just no justifying his place in the team anymore. Bastian should be given the captaincy and Rooney's "undroppable" tag binned.

LVG does do strange things tactically at times, like changing Darmian for Valencia when chasing a game. The Pereira sub - though I was pleased to see him get game time - shouldn't have been at Memphis' expense, his pace and directness was our main threat down the left. Young was a good call though, Valencia was poor positionally and offered nothing on the overlap.

we need a Left back fit as Darmian doesn't seem as effective going forward when on the left. Memphis shows flashes of brillaince but he's a little wasteful at times. i guess that comes with being young. It seems strange that 10 or so games in we've only had 1 real free kick in Memphis territory ie it suits him to take it when he's been on the field.

Juan Mata is being impressive. Great performance and always being decisive.
