Congratulations to Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars on being promoted to permanent joint managers of Bradford City after a very successful interim period that as seen us take 24 points from their 11 games since taking over from Stuart McCall

When was the last time we had joint permanent managers in the football league?

Michael Jolley has already put a phone call in to Carl Fletchers Anonymous.

We had four managers when we were relegated in 2003. Cornforth, McNab, Peters and Dolan. Though Dolan was only a caretaker at that time.

Amateurs. Andy Hessenthaler, Andy Edwards, Alberto Cavasin, Andy Edwards (again), Omer Riza & Danny Webb.

Barren would have been better employing Dom Jolley

Well it sounds like he didn't have a chance to bring in nine new players at your place. Presumably his recruitment was dire there too?
No, his recruitment was actually pretty decent. He brought in Jake Hessenthaler, Charlie Vernam, Luke Hendrie (who are all arguably amongst the best players in their respective positions in this division), Harry Davis, Wes Thomas, Andrew Fox and Elliot Whitehouse (all solid L2 players at the time). He had a few swings and misses, mainly bringing in Sebastian Ring over from Sweden and Louis Robles from some Spanish non-league side, but generally his recruitment was sound. He also started to forge decent loan links with Sunderland and Burnley and was bringing players in from our youth side.

A lot of Town fans slated Jolley, but I was a fan. People forget that when he was sacked we were actually having an alright season. The football wasn't great, but we'd been up in the playoff spots for a bit and we were around midtable when he was sacked, despite being on a poor run. Sacked for swearing too, god forbid someone at Blundell Park shows a bit of passion. Our form under him was frustratingly streaky. Back to back to back wins followed by four straight defeats. What I'd do to have those streaks now though.

I seem to remember most town fans were shocked when it was announced he was sacked, it wasn't until the reasons were given that it made some sense. Most thought sacking because of results and performances was wrong.

In fact go back to page 57 of this thread to see responses.

Interesting reading that back. I'd kind of forgotten about the Jolley days given all that's gone on since, but it makes me wonder where we'd be now if Fenty hadn't pulled the trigger. I don't think it's outlandish to suggest we'd have had a shot at a playoff push under him had he been given the time.

The match when we survived officially vs Notts was class but it was this pen that essentially saved us and put Chesterfield down that I'll remember the most about Jolley's reign. Absolute scenes:

I'd take a load of scabby pens again please.

Wonder if you'll experience such scenes this year. Wouldn't mind a flutter at you staying up at Barra and Sarfend's expense.

We're relegation scrap veterans to be fair. We've come out on top of way more than we've lost in my life, so it's not a bad shout.

Aye, certainly Slade and Holloway were worse than him, I doubt we'd be where we are now if he was still here at least.

Yep for sure.

Unpopular opinion on The Fishy I'd imagine, but I'd have liked Bignot to have had longer too. We'll never fully know what happened, but it seemed very likely that that decision was made in part by the input/reaction of senior players.

Agreed, I don't think he was as bad as made out either. He was the first to drop the beloved McKeown for a start, probably a big reason why he was forced out as macca threw his dummy out over it.

Barton joins Rovers. I guess they wanted a contrast to Tisdale!

Funny thing about the Notts County game is a guy sat right behind me was slagging off Jamille Matt from the minute he came on as sub calling him lazy and that he wasn’t fit to wear the shirt, and when Notts eaqualised in injury time the abuse to him went up tenfold.
Then as Summerfield went to take the corner the guy shouted ‘fucking prove me wrong Matt’ and so he did.
After we’d finished going crackers celebrating I turned round to him and said he just proved you fucking wrong mate and the guy had a laugh about it to be fair to the idiot.

Yeah, there's no way of proving it but I get the impression Macca is someone that causes a bit of friction in the dressing room if he doesn't get his own way.
Haha, not seen that before. I forgot we had that god awful goal music for a bit.

Well Barrow aren't strangers to managers dropping f-bombs live on air.

I would love to know what Bayliss and Sheridan would have thought about that shower if they were in charge on Saturday.

I remain devastated that no recording of Bayliss' outburst was ever acquired. I'd love to hear it again.

And then Radio Cumbria being super sentimental when Barrow were relegated and playing that montage from their decade (or however long it was) in the National League, and Workington fans phoning in trying to play up this massive rivalry and mutual hatred with Barra.

It seemed like an overly traumatic thing for the Barra fans to have to deal with.

Yeah, Andy Wood said that it really was a kick in the teeth to go from playing the big boys in Grimsby and Wrexham to fighting it out with the Wukkies and Guiseley in the Conny North. The Workington fans felt it was disrespectful, but everything Wood said was correct. Strangely enough, the season following we pinched Edmondson off them. They claimed he was a useless manager and he picked us up that season whilst they went down with a whimper. The trajectories of both clubs since has been the complete opposite. There's now three tiers between the two of us I think.

Indeed, they have Danny Grainger now and want to see him do well. They were absolutely robbed last season.

Out of all our managers I liked Bignot, thought he made some decent signings and we were steady away with him. Hiring Slade really fucked things up

Yeah some of our fans didn’t like him because we took a few pastings under him but that was because he was trying out different teams and formations to figure out his best team while we were already safe that season.
I think given time we would have come good under him.
