That would be extremely random and out of the blue. I could see him moving if he had very little scope to strengthen our squad, but he’s been given a strong budget this summer, so a sideways move would be very odd.

They do say the bookies get most things right and you’d imagine it’d take a fair few bets for him to be odds on like that. Perhaps no smoke without fire....

I find it all a load of bollocks to be honest, one of our board members says the bookies like this sort of shit because it draws attention to their various companies - As soon as say someone sticks a tenner on one candidate they mess with the odds.

Basically as soon as someone gets wind on whos taking over somewhere and puts what can only be described as silly money on that said person because they know its a done deal, do they close the betting or shorten their odds.

In other news we are now back in negotiations with Kenny Jackett.

Everything seems to point towards Adams’, but with Morecambe ruling out any approach from the club, it does make you wonder whether it is someone else - or are Morecambe just playing it down.

Based on absolutely nothing, my tuppence is going on Michael Flynn at Newport. Well, I say nothing....

Weird choice of wording if you ask me? Newport have a shocking pitch. 2+2=5

Derek Adams - is he any good do you know? :err:
but seriously - no idea... not Cooper hopefully or Hill.
John McGreal maybe - but that might depend on whether Tranmere want him or Dave Challinor?
We could have opted for McGreal last summer or after Mike Jackson was sacked, but for whatever reason not on our radar. Challinor is more likely, but wouldn't pitch higher than that.

Don’t take any notice of any lower league manager odds, before Bignot got the job here a few years ago we had Danny Cowley favourite at 2/5 and then it changed to Nigel Adkins at 1/3.
Just means a couple of people have stuck a few quid on it.

Indeed, I think during the incredibly long running saga of when our job was vacant we had gone through Emile Heskey and Cowley among others being favourites at various times. At no point was Darrell Clarke ever even included in the odds. Those markets are so meaningless if someone had stuck £20 on Fergie to come out of retirement and take the job he'd find himself top five.

We are down to the final three candidates:

Kenny Jackett, Paul Tisdale and Colin Calderwood.

One of them will likely be our manager by the end of the week. Typical that Ling went back to his old mate Calderwood - If Calderwood gets it and we inevitably turn out to be crap then Ling will have to be sacked along with him. If one mate fails with the other, they both have to go.

Well Sparks has just done a Q&A where he says the new manager was the one who did our retained list last week.

Surely Morecambe haven't allowed that?
Fair point. I'd imagine you can rule Adams out if that's the case.

Why the delay in announcing it though? Surely they haven't let someone whose deal isn't over the line and might fall through do their retained list.

Of the 'dinosaur' managers out there, I reckon Jackett would be my favourite for our job.

With Power in charge we are either going to go cheap or back to Cooper I imagine.

Neil Ardley, McGreal, Challinor, Cooper - quite a few names mentioned in relation to our job - but nobody really knows who has applied or who is going to get shortlisted. Our biggest shareholder (an American based Barrovian) is doing the preliminary interviews on zoom (or something) - to get down to the shortlist, who will then get interviewed locally.

None of it makes sense at the minute. Club don't seem rushed about it which indicates its a done deal whoever it is.

No one has been mentioned or linked at all it's just people stating who they'd like.

How would you feel about Tisdale getting the job? If he had time to put his methods into practice I can see him doing well. Trouble is, his last two jobs have gone sour and the owners have pulled the trigger fairly quickly. He seems to build trust with his players but as I said, needs a good couple of seasons to really get things right.

Be surprised if NA moved so far north - was living away from his family in Nottingham which is at least vaguely commutable back to London sometimes. Would be a great appointment if you could get him, though.

If he goes to Barrow he'll barely ever need to actually travel to Barrow since their training base is in Greater Manchester.

I would happily give him a chance, he will have the chance to build his own team and bring in his own coach as well I think. He got promoted out of this league only 3 seasons ago, albeit with a big budget and one of the players he used that season now plays for us - Ouss Cisse.

I'd prefer him to Calderwood who is Martin Lings mate and hasn't done much down here for a number of years, he steadied Cambridge but the fact that Mark Bonner did better than him says it all really. I'd have taken Calderwood 18 months ago when he turned us down as we needed an experienced head to steady the ship, but that ship has long since sailed.

Hartlepool supporters think he will only stay if he gets them promoted.
