I don't think Kitching is that good and Sterry is better than MSH, although MSH is still a good player.

He could come in for Holohan, Sterry rejected better offers in the summer as he wants to stay up north. I don't think he'd go there, would he? Maybe he would.
Can,t see Sterry moving given hes just become a dad, And wants to stay local.

Kitching and MSH are more than capable of holding thier own in that division.

And as this is a managerial thread, I would go for Tony Sweeney someone who really is Mr Hartlepool.

He has some good qualities, he is clearly an intelligent bloke and he always talks well about the game. Continuity, club legend etc. But I think we need experience and I'd say to any perspective manager that the club wants to retain Sweens but as assistant not coach.

Of the options which I haven't seen, just off the top of me head, I'd go with Mike Flynn but doubt he'd come here.
Pete Wild is my number one choice. We should be on the phone to his agent, agree a deal then tell FC Halifax it's done.

I like Sweeney but he shouldn't be given this job, it's way too soon and could ruin the bloke, much like Matty Bates.

That BetVictor list is the same set of managers linked to every single job down here, they just chuck in a few ex players local to the area, it's why Craig Hignett, twice sacked by Pools is 20/1, they don't have a clue. Give it a week or two, scatter all the joke names and see who is around

I feel like we need experience, I'd take Keith Hill, at a smaller club like ours he could do well like he did at Rochdale, Wild isn't a bad one, done well at Halifax 2008.

Stockport County.
There is a rumour as part of the compo, we can't come in for any Hartlepool players for 12 months.

And I really don't think Challinor has begged us for anything, our owner really wanted him and the rumour was he'd knocked us back a few weeks ago. I said that I don't think our owner is used to hearing the word No and will have gone big for him. Maybe behind the scenes stuff at Hartlepool has contributed and made him think "you know what yeah, fuck it" I don't know the Hartlepool side of things so can't comment on that.

There's no guarentees for Challinor here, it's a job with more pressure I imagine. But he fits the bill for us IMO. I doubted Rusk from minute one.

Our chairman has said we've had 50 applicants for the job, I wonder how many have the last name Swann.

I wasn’t impressed with Kitching at Dale but could imagine in L2/NL he’d be ok.

Challinor seems a confident bloke. I'm sure he's looked at the Stockport squad, the financial backing, current position and thought I'll get them promoted. Longer term, they would appear to have more financial clout than Singh can muster. It's ok saying consolidate with Pools, and go for a higher job, but where's the guarantee one will come knocking? If he consolidated Pools by finishing 4th bottom, would it be seen as a good job, or rather like Chris Beech at Carlisle last season, a tailing off having been play off candidates at one point? Would survival be attractive to bigger clubs higher up the food chain? He's backed himself to make this a better job than the one he's got. Big things made nowadays about working environments as well, if he's genuinely unhappy with things behind the scenes, and can't see a way to change them, should he just carry on? I'm sure wages have played a part, but i'm not sure casting him as a mercenary bastard with no feelings for Hartlepool is totally fair either. At least signing a contract gave you some compensation. And whilst i am biased, I am sure working for Radged is no picnic. It's raw at the moment, but after the miracle he performed with you, it would be sad indeed if he got a hostile reception if and when he returns to The Vic.

What's all this about DC going to a lower level club? I hear there've been some changes made to the football pyramid and it now reads like this -

PL
Chp
National League
L1
L2
Thats the Financial table of clubs.

Suspect Challinor will have enough credit in the bank with other EFL Clubs with leaving Hartlepool joint 6th. Even if it all goes tits up, he record at NL level is decent so he won't be short of offers either way.

I can kinda understand why he's gone. It's a risk for him on the pitch (Clubs spending serious money down there, and all of those aren't going to disappear next season even if a couple of them go up) but not much of a risk off it i.e. I'm sure he'll be well remunerated however it pans out.

I've always thought that one day DC would end up at our gaff. He has a great rapour with our supporters and is friendly with members of our boardroom due to our days in the NL and the Trophy final. Only last week in the press he was complimenting the club and it's infrastructure. Our CEO sent a best wishes message to his wife only yesterday on twitter. I wanted him in after Justin's passing but they fucked around for too long with left field appointments. Maybe after Kenny Jackett decides to call it a day, who knows... Guess that depends on how well or not well he does at Stockport and how far down the line that is.

Is it totally out of the question Hartlepool could use whatever compo they get from Stockport and poach a manager from another club themselves such as Wild at Halifax? Know he didn’t have the greatest time of it in his short stint at Oldham but then who does succeed there? His record since has been pretty decent it appears.

Raj Singh isn't a great person to work for, I've heard a lot of stuff. But signing a 3 year contract 6 weeks ago then having a disagreement and literally begging Stockport to take him is poor form and he may regret this.
Care to expand on this disagreement?

If there were issues behind the scenes why would he be happy to sign on for another three years a month ago, he knew what he was signing up for and he knew how this season was going to be particularly tough with the late late promotion and scramble for a squad, he knew the distance between the NW and the NE when he signed and claimed how happy him and his family were, things can’t of rapidly deteriorated behind the scenes that much that he was looking for an exit.

His heads been turned by big money, it’s a sad way to end for a bloke who was idolised here, he’s gonna do really well at Stockport but I can’t be fucked with the bloke.
Agree,i don’t think it’s anything to do with behind the scenes.
If Challinor was unhappy about something,he’d come out with it in the press,as he has previously.
It‘s all happened so quickly.
If you cast your mind back,he never distanced himself from being linked with Tranmere or Wrexham, maybe he was always going to leave us for club in that neck of the woods.

Let Stockport have thier moment Cause if he does well there (And i hope he does)
Because he has left us in a far better place than when he arrived.

Stockport will be a stepping stone (no matter what is in his contract)
And if any fans think they can hold on to him, Then don,t hold your breath
He,s far from stupid.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I’m aware there is a salary cap coming in next season in the NL? If so quite a few clubs who seem to be bankrolling for promotion may find themselves coming stuck if they are unsuccessful?

Stockport obviously throwing money at DC is a roll of the dice, and one unfortunately for us I can see paying off.

This could go round in circles constantly people blaming the money or so called “reasons behind the scenes”. Either way I’m seriously disappointed with the way the journey under Challinor has ended, and it’s a shame our most successful manager in recent history has left on such a sour note. However any of the abuse aimed towards the blokes wife on twatter is just wrong.

The clubs bigger than one man, we just need to make sure the recruitment is right going forward and not bring in a dinosaur.

I'm not sure winning promotion with Stockport (if he manages it) will elevate his status.
With their clear financial advantage, it should be a given really.
Its not like Sutton or Hartlepool winning promotion.

Not too sure how long your typical football manager lasts in his job these days, but I think Dave Challinor has made the right decision cashing in on his recent success at Hartlepool.
Take Ronnie Moore’s career at Hartlepool for example, one minute he is labelled the Messiah, then six months down the line a significant element treated him like the football equivalent to the Anti Christ.

He has one of the most exciting jobs in the lower leagues if he can get us his promoted.

With 10 seasons resulting in a playoff final, silverware, or a promotion, he probably backs himself to do it.

Don’t worry Poolies, we will give Challinor the welcome he deserves when he comes to Blundell Park in April.
