Scottish League pyramid is Better than people give it credit for - I’ve watched Motherwell going on 20 years and for a small town on the edge of Glasgow they’ve got into Europe several times.

Cove for anyone who doesn’t know who they are, Club on the outskirts of Aberdeen. Think Nottm Forest v Notts County. That’s the gulf and they are in the second tier ahead of joke outfits like Clydebank (Sorry, Airdrie) and Falkirk.

Tbf the fact they got into Europe probably shows a lack of real competition outside the big two, I love Stuart to bits but for him to get a small club into Europe several times then fail as a manager in the English lower leagues just about sums it up. Plus SPL is professional where as the lower leagues baring a few teams aren’t. I work in recruitment and we work with Scottish partners and have recruited a number of championship footballers as they know they’re unlikely to progress further and the wages are terrible. It’s no different to North Ferriby or Bradford Park Avenue training a few nights a week after work.

If our owner hadn’t panicked and Sacked Stuart when we were mid table in League 1 after a run of losses, I don’t think we would be where we are now. I watched the most boring game going v Shrewsbury, but we won 1-0. Under Dawson/Daws we just couldn’t keep clean sheets so that was a bonus for me.

Very happy with this, we had our man in mind, got knocked back and went in with an improved offer to get him, loads better than some of the dross we were linked with.

Mad seeing the Cove Rangers fans calling it a step down for him like :pmsl:

I get that we did the same with Colin Todd in 2007. Trouble is I’ve seen Stuart over 3 spells and his biggest weakness was his inability to turn around losing streaks they could easily turn into 7 or 8 games. He’s a better coach than manager imo and probably too friendly with players.

Next week now made some joke about the queen not wanting them to make an announcement, pretty typical embarrassing American humour which doesn’t seem to have gone down well with some of their fans. I only know as it’s been plastered over our hashtag as everything they do will be…

We might not have the best owner ourselves, although I think he gets far more stick than he deserves these days, but I said as soon as we heard about the interest from these cryptocurrency geeks for our club that it would be a very bad idea, and I'm truly thankful Rupp batted their interest away.

Just relieved it isn’t Phil Brown or Simon Grayson

You just get good vibes about certain managers,I certainly didn’t when Lee got the managers job,but am very optomistic now.
Cove fans are absolute gutted, that’s always a good sign.

Needs backing now, Raj is shouting from the rooftops about the budget for this season, so let's see it, would love us to go out and buy some players instead of scrabbling around for trialists.

I do as well, but a mate who supports Dunfermline reckons the job might be too big for him. Done wonders at Alloa, Cove and Dundee but went wrong for him there after he turned down the Cardiff job then went to Falkirk and bombed. Since restored his rep mind, apparently his teams are good to watch.

Really a case of let's see but I get a good feeling this one will work out.

Bottom half SPL teams sign bang average National League strikers on a regular basis, how they see Scottish Championship to League Two as a step down is beyond me. I'll give it to the Scottish, they know how to hype up the standard of their football.

I think we are looking at Crawley being one of the early relegation favourites, nothing sounds good about that new hierarchy at all.

There's probably only about half a dozen jobs in Scotland that you'd class as a step up from L2.

They just signed him because they need someone to lug the ball bags about.

I had a daft google of Cove Rangers for comparisons sake, fuckers get about 450 at home and their ground is a field with a fence around it and they were calling it a step down.

Last time I'd been this triggered was when Who Needs Mourinho called us the League 2 Halifax

Ben Garner has now formally agreed terms with Charlton and compensation fee has been agreed with Swindon for him. Scott Marshall and Scott Lindsey have both had zoom calls with Charlton, now the two clubs need to agree compensation fee for them. Deal should be closed soon. #stfc

Haven't Charlton suffered enough? :bg:
Biggest underachievers in L1 with their squad.
At least he will get another great reception vs the gas :2thumb:

Just seen their ground and it looks no better than Worthing's. Definitely had higher attendances this season in the 7th tier than Cove Rangers.
And people say Scottish Football is underrated

Purely rumours at this stage but apparently Ryan Mason or Mark Delaney are favoured by our chairman to be our next gaffer.

As I said yesterday it’s National league North level is low end Scottish Championship, top end League 1. Most players have full time jobs. In fact York would be a massive club at that level.

Seems a good character, and vaguely remember him being a bastard as a player. But the Cove job surely has no reflection of his ability - looks like they've been flashing the cash in the same way Gretna did, buying in players from the divisions above and borrowing money that they'll never be able to pay back. They were certainly big favourites every season he was at Cove, so it's hard to tell if the success was down to him, or a chimp could've done the same job.

My yardstick for Scottish football is always Jordan White. Absolutely hopeless for us in non-league, but spent most of the subsequent years in the SPL.

I’d be chuffed with either of them. I said from the off I thought Delaney would get it - based on the relationship with Villa loanees.

Mason could get a few tasty Spurs loans in, too.

Quite excited about the prospect of Ryan Mason taking over the more I think about it. Delaney not so much. Next week or so should be interesting.

Scottish lower league football can’t be that bad, we got Cadden from Morton and Hendry from Raith and both have done alright at league 2 level, Cadden especially.

There are also players who have been in the Unibond or Isthmian etc who have shone at Football League or even Premier League (Vardy, Che Adams etc) - they're not reflective of the quality of those leagues.
