Nothing official but local reporter says that Gillingham have met the release clause, they offered him a contract extension but wants to go.Ainsworth leaving Shrews to go to Gillingham apparently - speculation on the Shrews board is that this may be due to the takeover of the club not happening.
Wow!Now offical Ainsworth has gone
Don't know what to think! Having met him a couple of times he said the right things about being here for the long haul.Wow!
That must be painful for Shrews fans. The only loyalty in football is among the fans.
You could spin it that it allows you time to get the right person in for next season.

I think Ainsworth is based near Reading and was staying in a house in the town centre up here. His family didn't come with him. He was out and about in the town a lot and played at a couple of open mic nights in local pubs. Everyone bought into the positivity. He definetly would have been given the time with the fanbase. The poor recent results have largely been overlooked.if Ainsworth hasnt changed house, he still lives somewhere in Berkshire I think, so that’s an hour less on his commute I guess (not sure about Dobson).
Who knows what the real reasons were but I saw the open letter from the chairman saying that the Shrews takeover was still on, so that can be discounted as an excuse.
I would also worry about the recent revolving door at Gills - GA did great for us, but only given plenty of time to shape the club as he wanted - primarily cos we literally couldn’t afford to sack him at our lowest ebb.
I feel like he would have got that time at Shrews, not so much at Gills?
Anyway, done deal now, hoping that Shrews can get a good replacement in the door quickly. They’re pretty much gone, but hopefully a new gaffer can come in, get an idea of what he’s got to work with, cull the deadwood over the summer, and get in the right players for next season.
Wonder what sort of reception he'll get off you lot next season when you play the Gills (as it looks more than likely now)? It's also not great that a club at the wrong end of the league below can tempt away the manager.
Judging by social media not a great one! It's the timing of it all and everything he's been saying in the media since he joined how he's here for the long haulWonder what sort of reception he'll get off you lot next season when you play the Gills (as it looks more than likely now)?

Not really much reaction our end. Sense of apathy about the place. He's only in until the end of the season, if he does well then he may get the gig full time. If the takeover happens he could well be out anywayAppleton gets the Shrews job. Not that convinced by that one myself, he did well at Oxford I guess, but less impressive elsewhere.
I guess he’s got a free hit in terms of it being an unrealistic ask to keep them up, but it remains to be seen what he can bring to the table long term - still, surely the focus has to be on stability right now.
That would be interesting!Opening game of the season...
On the Rotherham forum many seem amenable to that but the ITKs are claiming secret reasons that mean it’ll never happen.
Had an excellent game as well, and was a cracking finish for a centre half.Rob Elliot is available. He was unlucky at Crawley, unlucky with the squad he inherited, unlucky with injuries and unlucky with the recruitment being out of his hands.
Louis Storey (our manager for one day) isn't. He signed as a player for Darlington and scored on Saturday.

I was told yesterday after the match that an approach had been already made to Warne and his team last week.
Matt Hamshaw and Andy Warrington were keen to return but Warne was more reticent. No mention of Richie Barker.
Today the inevitable happened and MH & AW will oversee everything until the end of the season, with some more staff TBN.
I think Warne would bring back some pride but may take some convincing to take the step back, we will see in due course.
Whoever was taking them down to non league was doing a cracking job. If there was ever a club to go bust, it's them.Shame to see Warne take the tainted coin of the Franchise, I generally had a fair bit of respect for him as a manager - comes across as a straight-talking no-bullshit type.
Unfortunately that’s a solid appointment, hope their promotion bid fails next campaign and they stay down in the basement though.
Ryan Lowe will be all over that Wigan job, he must realise now that no Championship club will touch him.
Plus it's even closer to his house than Preston.
Sounds like Wigan fans can't stand him already.Confirmed. So obvious, the wanker only wants a job where he is allowed to put in the bare minimum amount of work, and is allowed feed is ego on Sky Sports whenever possible.
