I always felt bad when we got gannon sacked when we won 3-1 at stockport on a tuesday night in january, though that was how the club was being ran than him, i believe that was the 2nd time he’d gone back?

Cloughs an excellent manager at this level and i’d love someone to give a case for someone better, he likes local clubs to his home burton way - so it’s hard to see how he’d move.
Clough is doing an okay job at Mansfield but by no means the standout in the division. Several managers in the conversation for best, in my opinion.

I think Clough is one of the best. If I could hand pick managers to take over my club from this league I'd say Clough or the guy at Notts County.

Personally I’ll wait until end of this season to decide that.

First full season we got to a play-off final that admittedly went disastrous, and I did feel like top three was attainable, last season missing out on promotion did feel purely injury related.

Like I said if he leaves Mansfield without a promotion it’s a failure, but the football is very good. Will not surprise me if we end up league top goalscorers again.

I didn't when we hadn't won a game 1st season back up and then trounced Coughlin's team 4-2 at yours... I don't think many Mansfield fans were upset either though.

He was an abysmal manager, wasn’t a bad thing to see the back of him

Some insane opinions in this thread about Charlton.

Charlton are a significantly bigger club than Stockport, they were in the PL for years ffs. I don't even think they're that much of a basket case anymore, it would be a big move for Challinor.

So were Oldham.

Of course they're bigger but nobody actually wants to go there do they? Arse end of London, sacked after 3 months, I can see why he can't arsed. Nobody's saying we're a bigger club.

I dunno, probably too early to tell with the ex-Sunderland guy as their owner and Rodwell as their CEO!

That’s poor logic tbh pal.

Bigger club clearly but more stable? more desirable? on a similar trajectory?

Unless you’re after a payday you’d keep clear.

Jim Rodwell is a one man football club wrecking ball. I don't think he's ever left a club in better shape when he's left.

Had no clue Rodwell was their CEO, never mind ignore everything I just said. He is a cancer that has hurt so many clubs

I still find it amazing how Challinor is a good manager after watching him be an average league 2 clogger for years at Bury. He must have sold his soul to the devil to be this good.

If he’s a decent manager why’s he in League 2 at this stage of his career?

Trod water at Derby for quite a few years, hasn’t pulled up any trees at Mansfield. Even if he gets them up this season, someone was going to the amount of money the Radfords have thrown at it.

What’s footballing ability got to do with management ability? Hughes would destroy this division with his eyes shut if it went on playing ability, and sir Alex would have been managing Morecambe all his career.

Think he did OK at Derby considering the massive cuts he was given. Definitely got his flaws like all managers mind, kept the squad too small in previous seasons and relied on versatility a bit too much.

You haven’t a clue what’s being thrown at the squad by the Radfords in recent years because you’ve been fucking about playing Maidenhead after that disaster of a season you chucked around six figure transfer fees only to get relegated so let’s not pretend otherwise.

Is the other forum not very active for regional football?

He's turned Charlton down anyway. If he does the job this season he will have a better job with us in league 1 or the choice of championship clubs which aren't run like a clown show.

Strange how arrogant Stockport fans have gotten when you were in the NLN not that long ago. You're one more bad owner from being in our position again, don't get too cocky

There’s no loyalty anymore but Challinor is 100% the biggest tart in football. He never even goes for a really big job either, just a bit better than the one he’s in.
He was at Fylde for eight years and then sacked. Joined Hartlepool and then left them for us.

He’s now just turned down Charlton.

Are you thinking of a different manager?

Haven't you just signed a crock on £11k per week?

Don't worry mate the obscene money we're throwing about means there won't even be a club left to fall back to the NLN if our owner wants to pull the plug without any parachute.

8k for three years actually!

Point taken, my wider point is that we have the budget/infrastructure for managers here whereas Charlton seem to be heading in a complete opposite direction - barely get 6 months. We need to give our scouts/recruitment team some P45s though..

Challinor turning it down out of respect for Martin Pringle I've heard.

I like Charlton, probably because of the Mendonca link more than anything. Great stadium too, The Valley. Very rarely meet a Charlton fan out in real life though do you?

Seeing as a Charlton fan would normally live in South East London I would doubt a Grimsby fan would see them out and about. They do average around 16,000 per home game (last I looked)

They had offers on around here when we were in the conference. £15 for a coach ride and entrance to their games in the championship. This was less than our home standing tickets at the time! Gone off them since then but I have a few friends who are season ticket holders there.

I know what SoC means though, you never come across a fat bloke wearing a Charlton top in Mallorca.

Same with Colchester.

Come to think of it doesn't SoC live in London? So he may of had a point.

I dislike the wearing of teamshirts away from the ground. The only time I've ever worn a Crawley shirt was when a team I was playing for was given a load of old shirts and we used them for training tops. I wasn't fat then either...shame about now.
