Gonna put a tenner on tomorrow for the first manager sacked.

I'm going for David Artell at Grimsby Town at the moment.

Can anybody convince me otherwise?

Guess it could happen but the Grimsby owners seem quite patient from a distance. If was to put money on anyone I’d say Karl Robinson at Salford. Prickly character who could easily fall out with their owners if get off to a bad start. Fleetwood went through a few managers last season so might include them but in fairness Adam seemed to improve them a bit.

Salford wont get anyone better than Robinson.

Think there are loads of better choices in my opinion. John Doolan, Stephen Clemence, Charlie Adam, and Nelson Jardim all feel like more likely candidates.

Maynard needs to get off to a good start at Notts County, but I think he will.

I have faith in Swindon's owner (to self-destruct) so I'm leaning towards Kennedy.

Is there a bookie with this market?

Totally agree he needs a good start but not convinced we'll get one. Centre midfield is weaker than last season, three gone only one replacement so far and we've lost our goal machine and talisman, Langstaff.

I think Simpson at Carlisle will start under pressure and there's high expectation at Port Vale which doesn't always work out.

I think there could come a point Moore could come under pressure but I wouldn’t have him down as the first one to go this season. Our owner is notoriously slow to act on these kinds of things, she should have done on Crosby months before she actually did last season as an example. Moores 5 year contract probably helps him too.

I don't think he'll be the first of go either. I'd have Maynard higher up the list, he really does need a good start having used up a lot of goodwill last year and he's now without a get out of jail goal machine in Langstaff.

Crosby should of gone after Cheltenham in October but beating Mansfield days later probably kept him on to give him the Carabao Quarter Final against Boro which itself came about during a decent spell and kept him longer.

Moore will get time plus despite the signings it’s still going to involve transition.

Moore will be gone by Christmas, poor manager in my opinion.

I think Moore will be under real pressure if Vale don't start well, and even with a big turnaround of players, it can be difficult to change a losing mentality. However, with some of the players they have, I think Vale have to be challenging for the title, anything less won't be good enough.

Yeah I would agree with this, definitely feels like Maynard is going in to the season with little room for a poor run.

Why didn’t you splash the cash last year to try and stay up?

I really hope you’re wrong.
I have the same vibe off him.
How he made us worse last year, took some doing.

Because he never had Arblaster and Devine, it’s pretty simple really. They made that team look a lot better than it really was. He needs to show his in game management is better but have always said he had a free pass last season as nobody was saving that shower.

Take Arblaster and Devine out of any side and it’s going to be worse, Arblaster was the best player I’ve ever seen in a Vale shirt in 25 years going. That was some loss. Devine was class and had really settled in that was a big loss. All of a sudden you end up with Jason Lowe and Jensen Weir as our midfield that’s like swapping a Ferrari for a battered Old Ford escort!

Nothing last season was on Moore. What could he do with that squad he was left with outside of any window to sign anyone.

Assuming we are splashing the cash because of the financial input into Synectics that didn’t get completed until after the window shut, although Flitcroft suggested he tried, one Arsenal target fancied Sturm Graz over us, we supposedly missed out on Smith up top from Wednesday and lost out due to location on the lad who went on loan to Lincoln (Taylor?)

Had a big money bid in with a league two top scoring striker but apparently he was holding out for a move to the a championship.

For whatever reason Flickers just didn’t seem to work once we got into L1 as well as he had in L2.

Don't want to clog the PSF thread up, but it seems like Grimsby/Artell is at a bit of breaking point already? Doesn't seem as though fans properly took to him anyway, which is a bit of sticking point because when things don't go well because they turn quicker.

Our fans reactions to pre-season has been like I’ve never seen before. It’s convinced me more than ever that there’s a portion of our fans who would sooner see us lose to be rid of Artell, which is causing a really poisonous atmosphere around the club.

I like Artell, I accept that people have different opinions but the reaction to pre-season is little more than peoples agenda against him IMO.

There a few 'Trolls' who like to bait our fans on 'The Fishy' but there are also plenty of genuine fans who are worried about Artell ball and his overall demeanour and body language at the moment.

I think if they act quickly and get a steady pair of hands in, they'll be fine next season.

It's all about how quickly they can usher Artell out the door and admit appointing him was a bad mistake. I feel for the players.

I can accept that there are, but questioning that in pre season is a bit mad. However the fact is we stayed up by a fair bit in the end last season, almost all of his Jan signings worked out and he showed he could adapt tactically.

The question marks still exist but I think our fans are making the atmosphere far worse than it needs to be, and that’ll be far more damaging long term.

Doesn't matter who we appoint, think the fans are starting to lose faith in our owners to be honest, but blaming our problems on the manager rather than them. We don't have any money and what money we do have is having to go to fix all the problems Fenty left behind.

Its like the new government, they have to come in and fix everything the tories broke and in 5 years they will be voted out by the ignorant public because they spent time fixing things instead of achieving better things.

Brining in a new manager is not going to solve us having any money to sign players they want, pretty sure Artell is not thinking what we have is good enough, but obviously can't get what he wants as we have no money!

The fan reaction is OTT but aside from the the Holloway Covid pre-season, this is the least prepared I remember us being for a season. I don’t care if we lose pre-season friendlies; I do care that with less than 2 weeks until the start of the season, we are well short on attackers and midfielders and by Artell’s own admission, we have barely practiced defending. I understand the window doesn’t end for another month but those extra weeks are to compliment your team, not rely on them to save you.

He has very little credit to cash in if we start poorly. The club isn’t helping with its radio silence either. I’m very much pro-JS and AP but we’ve heard nothing on the main stand, training ground and potential new investors, when they’ve previously been very quick to respond to internet rumours. It’s no one’s fault in particular but it doesn’t help when it all starts adding up.

I thought they were Kevin and Carol MkII that said they haven't had it all plain sailing either, certainly last season was difficult and fans turned a little and a lot of money they did invest was repairing Vale Park and infrastructure that had been neglected over time.

They spent 10 Million over 5 years and fans were not happy. £5 million on the purchase roughly which was spread over 3-4 years (ground and club).

Then repairing the toilets, ground, pitch, training ground, youth system, coaching.

Can require some patience.

In their 5 seasons we had a decent season curtailed by Covid which we may have gone up, one messy one where relegation was a possibility out the EFL at one point, promotion via the Play Offs, a mixed season in L1, then a relegation breaking a few records in the process.

Its only now we are really see big money into the first team.

Very similar to our guys to be honest, but it's all gone very quiet considering they were always on about 'transparency' and letting the fans know what's going on. Money gone on important stuff (ground, training pitch, etc, etc.) but very little on the playing side it would seem. New investors were muted a while ago, again all very quiet now. Hopefully be a big ANNOUNCEMENT soon.

Nothing new about a meltdown on the Fishy*, but does seem a few have the knives sharpened for him. Better coming on here to hear what Town fans think.

That interview about not practicing defending was surprising for an ex centre half.

From what I recall they seemed genuine, think they were leaning on Carol for advise initially but the issue does seem to be repairing older issues from before their time like us.

Carol went silent for a long period and explained because everything she said was jumped upon, notably her tearful speech after Lincoln, so she's now left all the comms to the CEO.
