Today was the first time people booed Simpson directly and some fans started to aim abuse at the guy, it seemed a strange end of game atmos because others rallied around Simpson at that moment also.

But someone texted into radio Cumbria he’s won 9 of the last 60 matches in charge at the club……..cannot think of any manager who survives on that

His position had become untenable. He was never turning things round. He’s still in shock from last season and it was rubbing off on the players.

We have signed some really good players on big money.

Love the man for his past achievements, but the time was right.

Our season starts now.

Always going to happen, it’s a tough ask to turn around how badly you’ve been playing for so long now.

Shame for Simpson but when you have had the sort of run they've had I guess it shouldn't come as a shock. Probably got more time than he'd have been allowed elsewhere to be honest.

Yeah. Any other manager would have been gone last season. He survived the season purely on his 3 promotions.

Shame it had to end this way for him but it's been long overdue, he's still a legend for his past achievements.

was always likely to happen - but whoever comes in can't take over at a worse time with the transfer window closing yesterday.

Not clear yet whether he's been sacked or decided to leave... as I did suspect he was the sort of person to walk away and not want the ignomy of being sacked by his hometown club.

It's really sad... or at least it is for those of us who remember his first spell... I think for some of the fans whether too young to remember or too old for his first spell to have felt that special he's just another manager, no different from Millen or Beech before him which made for a bit of a rift in the fanbase as for some no matter how much you feel like his race was run, you couldn't bring yourself to shout abuse at the only man who had got us promoted in your lifetime and to others, your silence meant you were part of the problem. It's probably for the best he left before we became one of those clubs whose fans split into two factions.

I don't really blame our failure to stay up last season on him either... we went into League One with a budget that had been one of the six lowest League Two budgets the previous year and it showed. Some may disagree and think survival should have been easy but honestly if we had stayed up last season it would rank as an achievement alongside the back to back promotions in his first spell, which were achieved with a competitive budget for the time.

He should have gone at the end of last year. Daft sacking him 4 games in
He got a lot of leeway last year though... not just because of his previous achievements but also I think the meagre budget that Pepe Guardiola would probably have struggled to keep us up with. At the start of last season we had one of the lowest budgets in the football league and almost certainly the lowest in League One by some distance.

He’s been sacked. Along with his staff.

His post match interview comments don’t suggest he was planning on resigning.

“I'm going to keep working to try and change the results around because that's my job, that's what I want to do.
“I come in every single day and I do what I believe is the right thing to do. And that's what I'm going to continue to do.”

Yeah he’s definitely been sacked.

It’s a decent job for someone. We’ve assembled a good squad who are in a crap position. I expect a lot of candidates will be looking at the players we have thinking they can get something out of them.

Yeah but then sacking him 4 games in isn’t exactly giving the new lads time to settle and gel is it?

I expected he would get 10... but then I don't think anyone (including obviously the owners) expected us to start the season quite as badly as we have. We were talking about if we're not in touch with the playoffs after ten games then Simpson might have to go... nobody was thinking but what if we look like we're headed into a relegation scrap after only four games (well apart from Hellogregory of course, but he always thinks that).

The defending for the first Tranmere goal was insanely bad... like just watching as Tranmere passed it around in our area as if we were waiting to see where they would decide to shoot from before reacting.

Evatt after he gets the bullet from Bolton in the next few days.

Has Wild gone anywhere yet? Seems plausible.

Nah, he's somewhere in the middle. He clearly did, with some backing, a good job at Barrow. 2 top half 10 finishes after the previous managers only just about kept them up. That's not a fluke, not after the job he did at Halifax. It's even more impressive given the geographical restrictions they were working under.

However, he's not as good as some claim either, his football is dross and as you say, he's a class A bellend. More marketable version of Steve Evans if you will.

Will he be considered for this job or will they go after a more high profile candidate? Tricky for the new owners as this is their first stab at bringing in a manager.

I fucking hope not.

I'd like us to go for a young progressive manager like Rob Elliot at Gateshead.

I'll avoid making bold comments because if Pete Wild does become our next manager I'll have to get behind him... wouldn't be my choice though. On paper we have the squad to play positive attacking football so I'd like to see someone with a track record of doing well by doing that.

Also I did rate Wild, ever since he did remarkably well in an impossible situation at Oldham... but the way Barrow capitulated at the end of last season just doesn't give me any confidence.

Doing a deep dive who the bookies are offering odds for... if we wanted Gareth Ainsworth maybe our owners could offer his band a summer tour of Florida and that would swing it for him to drop down to this level :woo:

His football is terrible and he's a complete whinger I can't stand his interviews and his over the top fist pumping.

Hopefully it's Blackpool he's going to.

If you’re looking for positive attacking football I’m not sure Gareth Ainsworth (as much as loved him for his time here as a player) would tick that box. His Wycombe team were the epitome of football terrorism.

Seems far too quick for wild to be at Carlisle, I genuinely think this sacking was not in the planning at all for our owners and they just hoped backing Simpson in the summer was enough.

Cannot see this being a situation where they have the next guy already lined up unless they had decided last week after no dons but then when spend big in the last couple of days if case.
