Chris Powell, Sol Campbell and Stephen Constantine apparently all spoken to last week.

Graham Westley will be spoken to next week apparently....**Shudders** cannot see this working if its him - our crowd will turn very quickly if he gets it wrong.

No Word on any out of work managers clubs being approached yet, but our owners are apparently willing to pay compensation - which is not something we've done since god knows when.

I was told Ling really, really wants to get Colin Calderwood in, but again this could prove tricky as he has just signed a new deal at Cambridge.

I would expect a new man in place by 12th October when we play Walsall at home.
You'll be racist if you don't give the job to Sol Campbell, even if you do give it to Powell. Would like to see someone take a punt on Constantine at some point though just to see how he does.

The bookies appear to have noticed that we fancy taking Colin Calderwood, this could be an interesting week...................:dk:

Can't see that given he's just signed a new contract which has almost certainly increased his release fee significantly...
This is what we're all thinking here, but our owners have invested money into our club - One of the reasons we got back here in just 2 seasons.

I don't think it will happen, because it will involve one hell of a Compensation package to be paid to Cambridge for a club down here.

This would be like 1996 all over again - Its about the same time period as well - October/November, when we nicked Tommy Taylor and around 5 of their players from them...................

I never know what to think really. Calderwood’s words last week off the back of his new deal were very positive and he gave the impression of being very settled here. But who knows, he may be off but I expect we’d be seeking a lot of compensation.

And yes Tommy the Tit 2.0 came to mind too.

Don't think there is even a remote chance of Calderwood joining Orient at this current time. New contract and has expressed how happy he is at the club.

If it was an established league 1 club then perhaps, but it's Orient. It would be a side ways move.

Also, out of anyone, why is Calderwood their number 1 target? He's doing a good job at the Abbey but has still a lot to prove, he'd be one of the more expensive options as well.

Not sure why anyone would want to work with Martin Ling either to be honest.

Ling and Calderwood are very, very good friends - this is common knowledge amongst our fans as Ling would regularly talk about it when he would come up against him, they were team mates at Swindon.

I've been told that compensation has been agreed between the two clubs and that its now down to Calderwood to decide what he wants to do. This is all just rumours by the way at the moment, but the bookies have been passed some information clearly, we shall find out next week.

The Ling comment was just a joke or dig, he's not liked here at Cambridge. In fact I'm sure he'd love to fuck us over again.

We'll see, but I find it hard to believe bookies or club forum rumours. Remember in the past when we were looking for a manager people would randomly mention names on our forum and within a few hours they'd be favourites for the job. When it comes to betting on managers at this level one person putting a bet on can change the odds significantly, and if someone suddenly shoots up then others jump on.

Am I the only one who won't be the slightest bit surprised if he really does leave then? To be perfectly honest, at this moment I'm thinking it's more a question of when and not if.

Bookies slashing odds mean fuck all at League 2 level, just means a couple of people have placed bets on it that’s all.

Why do you think he'd leave right now after just signing a new contract?

According to our press association correspondent the club says Calderwood to Orient is a "complete non-story". He's a reliable source when it comes to Cambridge.
Could well be a non story.

The rumour mill yesterday suggested that both clubs were going to leave it to Calderwood to decide. He may well want to honour his contract at Cambridge, which is fair enough.

£100k in compensation was the rumoured amount of money - Again, I stress rumour!!

It's just a gut feeling I have but I don't find the fact that Calderwood has just signed a new contract to be that assuring as most seem to believe. The club probably anticipated all this, and hence the new contract extension, but if the O's really do want him then I think they will.

Re. the club's comment on this being a non-story, that's only to be expected. I hardly think they'll come out with something like 'oh yes indeed, talks are ongoing at this very moment'. Furthermore, no word from the club on any contact between the two clubs, or more specifically, between Ling and CC. Hmmmm......very interesting.

Now, if I were Ling, I would forget all about CC and having to pay compo, and not because I think CC is irreplaceable as nobody is. But I would take a good look at the O's squad, try to see why the side is leaking so many goals, an then splash the money on 2 or 3 new players in January.

This is now looking likely to happen if you believe the bookies..............

If it does happen I will happy enough with this, we badly need an experienced coach who's worked recently in this league and whom knows it - someone who can steady our ship and make our side hard to beat again.

This is however a huge gamble for Ling and the owners - Because he's convinced Teague and Travis to pay compensation for a manager, this something which we've never, ever done in my lifetime - if ever.

If this goes wrong too soon, then the knives will be out for Ling, because whilst I think this is a good enough appointment that we do need, you can also see that its jobs for friends.

The pressure will be on Calderwood to get results quickly I think. He will also have to work with Ling on a daily basis and work on the clubs long term strategy.

Finally, if CC is our new Head Coach, it will make our two games this season even more interesting - Not that we've won many against the U's in our recent meetings!

I’d be surprised if calderwood does leave, perhaps it’s just blind optimism of my half but he doesn’t seem the type of bloke to sign a 2yr deal only to leave a fortnight later!

Our board have backed him and he’s showing why at the minute, he’s definitely turned us around.

We've all heard CC is settled in Northamptonshire, so his commute London would add an extra 45 mile round trip. Orient probably have a bigger budget than us but I'm not sure that's a big enough pull, unless Orient of course are offering him big money.

If Orient were in league one then I would be worried but the fact he's recently said he's the happiest he's been at a club for years I think he'll stay.

No smoke without fire though and it all seems to be coming from the Orient end of things.

Do Orient have a bigger budget than Cambridge? On paper it doesn’t look like it.

All depends where they have spent their money on the sales of Bonne etc. We have a competitive budget but I would Orient have a bigger one considering their home gates and sales of players over the summer.

Whether they have a spare £100k compensation money is another matter.

It depends on how you look at it - We've paid fees for 7 of our current squad, not huge fees but between £20k-£50k for each one.

Thats through a combination of through our owners own pockets and of course in the summer we sold two strikers for around £800k combined, so this potential compensation fee is probably through that.

Our crowds and income have been quite good for 2 years now as well.

No news it seems on this manager situation :shut:

Putting two and two together here but Calderwood always does his press conference on a Thursday morning for the game ahead. Not a thing today.

I was thinking exactly the same thing SVH.

Now it's time to come clean on why I think he's off to the Os. This chap I know tells me there has been contact between Ling and CC, though the fella is not sure what was discussed obviously. They're best mates after all, so perhaps they only met for a cappuccino or an espresso...... right?

CC signing a new contract means nowt afaic, as that could only be a gesture of goodwill, like the 'you can leave anytime but at least help us in getting something back when the time comes' sort of thing. Furthermore, nobody know what's in his contract. Like, for ex, a clause in the contract which allows him to talk to other clubs while still under contract with the U's.

If he's still here for the Macc game, then I bet not one single U's fan will leave the ground early. In fact I'm more interested in what he does after the final whistle goes than the match itself.

Will his first match be at our place in familiar surroundings?
Unlikely, Embleton almost certain to take charge Saturday.

Only rumour which has sent a few of our fans into a mini meltdown, is that with Ian Hendon leaving Ebbsfleet yesterday he has apparently spoken to our owners, apparently Nigel Travis one of our owners likes him and thought he was harsly treated last time he was here - Which he was, but he's still not the answer, a very tactically indept coach.

The Cambridge game on Saturday is going to be interesting at this rate with all thats been said this week.
