They were also quick to announce his successor

I’m struggling to think of a more moronic decision in our history, apart from hosting Farage obviously.

Very sad day. Short run of bad form, not given a chance to turn it around. How long did Slade get ffs.

Very much not in love with my club at the moment.

Fucking hell, that's a shocking, disgusting decision*.

*Hosting Farage that is, not giving Jolley the heave ho.

It's that time of the season - Grimsby part company with Jolley
I'm surprised... they've had a couple of poor spells under him but overall done better than might have been expected given their ownership. Wouldn't mind him at Carlisle.

Darrel Clarke must be bricking it.

Seemed to have a decent connection with the fans, and they were improving under him. Were they underachieving?

Our fans think we’ve some divine right to be challenging at the top of League 2 because we were good in the 90s. A portion of the fan base were beginning to get sick of him.

I wasn’t his biggest fan but we’d never have gone down. Knowing our luck, Fentys next appointment will probably seal our fate for the season.

Tisdale please...

That's a bit of a shocker. Although it always came across that Jolley got more credit than his results deserved. Outsider view obviously but similar to Aspin at Vale.

Didn't get all the praise and fuss of either tbh but surprising when other clubs fans in L2 are desperate to get rid of their manager but can't.

What's Dave Hockaday up to these days? Heard him on Radio Humberside not too long ago, so seems to be his neck of the woods. About time he got back in management somewhere....

He's managed Leeds and can use a computer, which will impress Fenty.

Very strange decision IMO. We've not had a game for weeks for a start apart from the FA Cup, yes the run of the last 4 games was poor but hardly a reason to sack him.

He has done well given the budget we have, given youth a chance and some of our best players are youth, Max Wright in particular who has been badly missed since going off against Mansfield.

Some of the football this season has been poor viewing, the constant hoof ball to Hanson, but it mostly worked.

Bad decision and can't help feel there is more to it than just the last 4 games. Slade got far longer of shocking results.

Whoever we appoint next won't make any difference until the board changes, we have no ambition and a budget to match. Fenty is just hoping that one day something will click and we do an Accrington but that is a gamble unlikely to pay off, he's far more likely to get it wrong as evidenced since he took us over in 2004. We're going no where under him except keeping the club afloat (not a bad thing but then why sack someone who will comfortably keep us up and gamble on better results) and sacking the manager isn't going to change that.

From the outside I don't think it seems that strange a decision, just weird timing given how little they've been playing.

The issue is that he was dealing with very high expectations from the fanbase, many wanted a playoff push this season, me included to an extent. Realistically it probably wasn't going to happen and he was operating at the standard we are at, a mid table side riddled with inconsistency that showed a lot of promise at times. The football hasn't been great this season but that's largely down to a lack of wide players, he should've addressed it in the summer sure but there was absolutely no danger in giving him another window at the very least.

He's done incredibly well in bringing through academy players, many are involved in the first team and some already have / will be sold onto bigger clubs. This alone should have bought him many, many months in the job. Not to mention the connection he made with the fans and the community. That might have waned a bit recently with the poor results but overall we've not had a manager that had as much time for people as him in a long time.

We don't know what's gone on behind the scenes yet but at face value, it's absolutely appalling and one of the worst decisions I've seen this club make in a long time, and it wasn't long ago Slade was appointed..

Be surprised if Walsall can afford to sack him.

What a bullshit decision. If you're going to appoint a young manager, you absolutely have to give him chance to learn from his mistakes. He improved Grimsby and all signs suggested he would continue to make progress. Stupid.

Emma Hayes, as mentioned in the blog, is a bit left field but would be an interesting appointment.
She is doing well with Chelsea ladies, talks about the game well and of the women, probably the one coach from the WSL who could take that initial step to make a transition to men's football?

Good shout, we got a woman to coach our youth side and she's doing well. Day can't be far off.

Clubs are looking at the current managers avaliable for free and acting on that, obviously Mansfield (1 point ahead of Grimsby but they have two games in hand and our budget is much bigger) still cannot be arsed to take the football seriously enough to get rid and bring one of them in,
