There’s so many variables, the majority of which fans know little about, that to us, the choice of manager is pretty random.

Out of the realistic candidates for the Notts job, how can anyone pick one out and confidently say yeah, he’ll be definitely great, or I really don’t fancy Kewell? Makes no sense.

Being confident about whether your team’s next manager is any good or not makes about as much sense as saying your lottery numbers are better than anyone
Bit different, rarely do managers show poor form and go on to be great. Usually their style and previous results give a good indication

Not sure that’s true, it happens loads. Besides, Kewell has done a reasonable job at Crawley on the face of it.

The reason I don’t fancy Kewell is that I’m not impressed unlike Jacob with his record or his style of Football. Have I researched him greatly? No. Have I watched his training sessions or seen his transfer targets. No. Have I seen his flashy PowerPoint. No.

The Chairmen is clearly throwing all his eggs in the getting promoted this season basket and I just can’t see it, quite the oppsite.

If we double down on the football style we might well end up in a worse mess. I don’t care if we play like Man City or Man Utd if we win. Style isn’t substance. 3 points from a game is. If it’s Kewell and we win games I’ll be as happy as anyone.

Viking makes a good point. He’s not been appointed yet, but it looks nigh on certain.

The bloke who won the league title last season was coming fresh off the back of being sacked by Rochdale and then Southport. Ainsworth was one goal away from getting Wycombe relegated to the conference a couple of years ago. Simon Grayson, who I think would’ve been received as a fantastic appointment, has a combined win % in his last two jobs of less than 20%!

It’s rarer that someone has an unblemished record, to be honest.

I’m not particularly impressed by Kewell btw, I just don’t really know anything about him. I just see no reason not to give him a chance or to view it as a terrible move.

Don’t remember his ill-fated couple of months managing you, but seems to be doing a decent job at Halifax.

If you were the there, you will never ever forget it! Toxic environment like no other at Meadow Lane.

Not that I blame him, he was well and truly hung out to dry by Ray Trew. Had no chance from day one, used purely as a sacrificial lamb. Of all the RT appointments that was the worst one , insulting and disgusting. Let us never forget

Or they were both managers who'd been at their clubs for a significant period, building a side capable of promotion

Also over looks that they'd both previously made the play offs.

If only we'd stuck by our play off achieving manager who definitely over achieved last year. That's where my main frustration here comes from....

As it should. If one more Notts Chairman claims the need for stability again, I’ll lose it!
I feel the same regarding Nolan overachieving last season and how easily that’s been forgotten so soon. Very harsh! I liked Nolan, my sort of manager. However, the start has been disastrous and im sorry I don’t buy KN’s excuse that it takes time. Most clubs at the bottom have a large turnover of players, we spent a lot, well, and particularly early so he should of been even better prepared than most. I just have to remind myself that he seemed to take longer than most to see obvious weaknesses. Which was worrying as a fan.

It’s done now, onto the next

Very true , sadly for far too long now it’s been all or nothing, boom or bust culture at Notts at both fan level and at board level. Strangely through it all , call me deluded but we continually seem to be an attractive proposition for both managers in and out of work. Not every time, but a lot of times.
managers probably quite like a boom and bust club. They get given a big transfer budget and have the opportunity for success, and if not and boom turns to bust, it won't reflect too badly on them.

Announcement in the morning along with up to Five new signings, but definitely 2 tomorrow.
I guess these will be 2 loans and 3 frees.

Go on Big Al, Big Al should just announce himself as manager and be done with it.

Has that ever happened at league level ? If not it should surely? All that money , ego and you don’t pick the team. Gutting ! Loo

He’s pure entertainment since he came in, never dull

Big Al either has deeper pockets than we all thought or is doing a Ray Trew and loaning the club money for the next owner to pay him back.
No doubt we need loans, not too much doubt that a couple of key players would leave with us a strong team but coupled with Kewells compo and his coaching staff , Nolans three year pay off the end of year accounts are going to look spectacular.

I hope they’re all central midfielders.

For the record, I’m fine with Kewell. Crawley fans’ number one concern seems to be his Kewell-ball stubbornness which for me is the one thing I wanted in a manager. I can deal with a manager having a plan and a philosophy - Nolan’s greatest success was when he double downed on his direct style of play, any time he got cute was when we were punished. League 2 players aren’t known for their flexibility and ‘completeness’ - they’re either big lumps with no skill, fast lads with no skill or skilful blokes who can’t run or tackle. Work out which archetype you want at each position (without overloading on one template) and build a team and style that way - find the odd unicorn (e.g. Enzio Boldewijn, who is unlucky that we’ve spent so little time this season discussing how brilliant he is) and you’re flying.

Whilst in the old Div Three, the late John Reames who was our chairman appointed himself manager and won 25 out of 75 league games and even won manager of the month award :bg:

How is Big Al funding Notts - is it loans or is he purchasing shares?

Laundering it through the sweet shop in the family stand. Purchases Steve Evans’ body weight in 50p mixs every home game and then airdrops them out of his helicopter over the local schools.

Remember it well, crazy period that was assisted by Phil Stant who ended up being a worse manager!
When he won the manager of the month he shared the bottle of champagne with the office and backroom staff, remember our then media manager John Vickers and the then stadium manager Nigel Dennis both telling this story they got about half a glass each lol!!!

Good luck Harry Kewell. Big job on your hands.

Wonder what odds I'll get on a third manager at Notts this year...

Harry at Notts County will be interesting.
Mainly to see how his ego gets on at a bigger club.
Fans will be bit players in that ego trip.
His selections will baffle/annoy/frustrate you, but he will be positive if needed with substitutions.
I wish him luck. Except on 2/10! Hopefully your GK will have a brain fart again.
