Would love to see Jim Harvey finally get a chance at EFL management, probably unlikely at this point given he's been out the game a while but top bloke and top manager who always deserved a shot at a higher level. Plays football the right way and would do a cracking job I reckon.

When Simon Grayson was appointed by Bradford City a couple of years ago, we were still in league 1, he actually said in press conference that we were lucky to be getting a Championship manager, I cannot imagine his over inflated ego would allow him to manage in league 2.
I so hope that you’re right. To my mind, Simon Grayson would be a similar appointment to Micky Adams last time we were in this position; manager with some past success but clearly past his best. We all know how badly Adams turned out for us...

Interesting reading Bottega Don’s remarks on Graham Alexander. I don’t think that he’s on our radar, but it deconstructs the perception that Scunny were the exception to his needing significant funds to build a team.

Some of Mark Palios’ remarks suggest we might be looking at a short-term appointment, which may mean some otherwise out of reach figures like Paul Cook might be interested. No idea how credible that might be.

Rovers have a reasonably strong squad, lacking depth in certain areas and not much money. Any half competent manager should be able to keep us up, but imo it’s asking a lot to make the current squad title challengers, which is where the Chairman thinks it ought to be.

Are you prepared to give Alexander a massive budget? If not he will be awful.

He failed here despite our largest ever budget being given to him, the fact we didn't go up to the Championship that season was criminal.

I think Salford realised that, he couldn't get it done despite having a huge budget.

Graham Alexander to Manchester United then

True, but other clubs won't have an existing squad that is decent.

Maybe not but Salford, Mansfield and Tranmere all have decent squads and none of them have a manager aha!

A good job there are more than three decent managers in the country....

Detest the perpetual hamster wheel of managerial appointments. Same old faces rocking up at club after club for no apparent logical reason.

Some owners really haven’t got a clue.

Paul Hurst never seems to rip up trees wherever he goes.

Flitcroft or Tisdale ?

Cowley is a pipe dream I would imagine......

I know Flitcroft got a lot of stick for us missing out on autos and then being rubbish in the subsequent playoffs the other year but how we've done since has left him in a better light imo and I reckon he'd be a decent appointment for you or many other teams in the division actually.

I liked Flitcroft and despite the cock up in the March/April that season he shouldve been given another chance at it here, Folk will disagree but we've been disastrous since and won 12 games since we sacked him.

Grimsby fans, what kind of football did Paul Hurst have you lot playing? Is it OK or is he another negative, scared to finish a team of merchant
He is a bit meh. Team will be well organised but not exciting. I believe he has been quoted as saying he would rather win 1-0 than 4-3.

Subs would not be made until 70th minute and if you have a goalscorer then he will soon get that stopped. Safe pair of hands sums him up.

Has Robbie Fowler not thrown his hat in the ring for the Tranmere job yet? He seemingly applied for pretty much every National League job going for the past few years.

20 years ago perhaps. Would of made a great assistant for Mike Jackson though.

Out of all the realistic candidates mentioned, I wouldn’t mind Flitcroft for the Tranmere job. His teams at this level have been decent enough to watch.

Things must be bad in the ‘available manager’ market if Flitcroft is being touted. Confirmed loser and bottler.

Flitcroft got Bury promoted while subsequent appointments at Mansfield have seen him looked on more favourably. Agree with BITDHSS that his teams seem to play attractive football. Mark Palios has said that Mike Jackson was the only person interviewed for the job in the summer, but rumoured Flitcroft applied then.

Flitcroft only played good football pre-christmas.

He’s a good coach, not sure about manager because he is a passionate bottler.

You can’t base a prospective manager’s credentials based on the fact his 2 subsequent successors were even worse.

He had the squad and budget - and league position and points achieved - that made it almost certain Mansfield would get promoted automatically. He spectacularly fucked it up.

The football when he managed us was, on the whole, dire to watch.
