Joey Barton's available....

Be a slight contrast in personalities between him and JA.

I'd probably pay money though to see how he'd deal with McKirdy for example though.

It was inevitable. Surprised he lasted this long. He’s been managing a team who are expected to win the league or at the very least be guaranteed to finish 16 places above Carlisle, so to be almost half way through the season and be 16 places below Carlisle is really unacceptable. Can have no complaints at losing his job.

Can imagine how he’d deal with the players doing what they did to Askey! Would batter them probably!

Really gutted for Askey, everything was going fine until that Joyce sending off. It's been a perfect storm since then and I guess he's just not a strong enough character to have turned it round.

Shame to see fans outwardly celebrating like they are though, some people just have no empathy I guess.

Putting my cat down was the right thing to do but I wasn't popping the champagne.
having your cat put down seams a bit extreme.......

Just feel for him really, been royally shafted by the players.

He leaves with my best wishes. A year ago today we had that magical evening at the Etihad, had some great memories last season that we’d missed after a few years of struggle. The Crewe, Swindon and Exeter wins, the last gasp winner at Bradford, Popey 8 minute hatrick at Cheltenham. Even this month the hammering of Bolton. Felt we had our club back. Wheels have flew off despite high hopes. Failure to make the play offs would be a huge failure for the clubs ambitions, to be playing like we have been and in a relegation battle is almost unthinkable.

Big decision now, need to get it right. I’d favour looking at Alexander, a lot want us to go for Adams at Morecambe. Have to see.

Every time I see a job come up at various clubs down here I see Alexanders name and have to ask what has he actually done to warrant it? He has spent ridiculous sums of money and pretty much was below us the entire time. I don't get it with him.

Parkinson I could go with as he has a track record of promotion. I've seen some mention Page but he has a cushy number with Wales right now so doubt he will come back. Also think it needs a bit more ruthless streak as he is similar to Askey personality wise.

Needs a strong personality that’s for sure.

Get Micky back!

maybe not Micky, but is there someone out there who's got that proven record and just needs to prove themselves again? He had two 4th tier promotions under his belt before he got to us.

Askey does come across as a nice chap and all but it was all inevitable IMO.

I have always found any talk of relegation from the Vale fans to be silly talk, mostly because they do have some real quality in their squad but tbf they were looking down rather than up and they were stuck in a rut. Obviously, the first thing to be done by any club in a similar position to Vale's is to have a good look at the manager and see whether he's taking steps to rectify matters.

To sum up, I think he should've got the sack weeks ago. I think whoever comes in (even if it's only a caretaker manager) will get the best out of a decent squad and just a couple of wins will see Vale move up the standings in no time at all. IOW, I still think they'll make the top 7.

Adams has been out the game too long. As good as it would be to see some of the shirkers in this squad being sent on runs round Westport Lake all day long I think the game even at this level has moved on from that.

What I would suggest to Carol is to get Adam Yates involved in doing the search. Listening to him on the radio on Saturday was a breath of fresh air with how honestly and plainly he spoke about what was going on more than most others would have dared to anyway. She could do worse than tap into his thoughts on it.

I actually quite liked Askey and 99% of our fan base were very happy with him up until 6 weeks ago. However, he should have gone weeks ago when it became clear that he was unable to ‘stop the rot’. A few unlucky, poor results spiralled into 6 points from 36. That should never have happened.

Yes, the players have a lot to answer for but at the end of the day the buck stops with the manager.

No idea who we’ll get in next, but please don’t let it be anyone who has any connections with the club. It doesn’t work.

Chris Beech is the bookies favourite for the Fleetwood job.

Wasn’t it the issue he has with Shrewsbury, once the spiral started he just couldn’t halt it?

Parky did a fantastic job for us including promotion, FA Cup quarter finalists, including one of the biggest cup shocks in recent history by beating Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge, League cup final appearance as a league 2 side. I would love to have him back, however, he ruled himself out of a return when we sacked McCall last month. If Port Vale could persuade him to join, he would be a belting appointment for them.

i'd favour Parkinson if we can offer him a deal worth accepting.

Never really liked Flitcroft or Alexander but wouldn't be offended with either.

that's the ilk i think we need to target. not the time to piss about with up and coming none leaguers.

Hopefully that's just because he's the one the Fleetwood fans want.
And the fact he was brought up in Fleetwood and his dad played for them. He seems the obvious choice. Hopefully nothing in it.

Askey had to go. The guy isn’t a Football League manager. His tactics and subs along with his complete lack of a Plan B was really awful.

Loads of names thrown around already! Carol has got to get this right!

Emile Heskey favourite now. Worry is Sinclair had him in to speak to the kids a few weeks back so may actually be something in that.

Why not? Every manager has to start somewhere so why couldn’t Heskey come to Vale and do a decent job? He’s done his badges and is a qualified coach, from his Wiki page it looks like he’s also done UEFA management courses too. He must have loads of contacts in the game I imagine as well.

There are a few managers at the top of League Two that are in their first Football League jobs.

It’s a risk with our EFL status.

Granted it may work out but could easily not.

Parky’s a L1 manager, like Cook, Cowley, Lowe... we can fantasise that they’d drop to our level but there’s not a chance they will.

Feel for Askey, who in my opinion has done a good job for most of his Vale reign, but this season is a unique season. He got promoted with a very small squad on a bare bones budget at Macclesfield and I genuinely think in normal circumstances with fans, no COVID and a season without rapid midweek games, he could've got Vale up using similar methods. But fate has robbed him of that chance.

Askey will get another job at L2/NL level. Bloke is a good manager but it's evident something has happened at Vale Park going off social media and listening to Radio Stoke. It's always a soap opera there but think a minority of fans bang out of order for starting to turn on the Shanahans, who, in my eyes, are excellent owners compared to the charlatans Vale have had in the past.

Don't know who Vale could attract though. A lot of managers I've seen mentioned on social media (Cowley, Cook, Parkinson etc) won't drop to League Two and those wanting Micky Adams back are living in the past. Can't see Sunderland Phil Parkinson go there but could see Altrincham Phil Parkinson be on the shortlist. Graham Alexander probably the most realistic option they could get, but I'm unsure if he's actually a good manager.

You get the sense that if they cock this appointment up, it could set the club back to where it was at its lowest ebb under Michael Brown.

Hiding to nothing at Shrewsbury, just look at the bloke he replaced. Ripped up almost the entire squad that was extra time away from the Championship. It was a rebuild, he started slowly and their expectant fans so used to success never gave him time. He was lower mid-table and had just impressively beaten a soon to be promoted Barnsley when he was sacked.

He's had time with you lot though and I do believe Vale have done the right thing. Not a decision to be taken lightly but the thought of a man I've seen miss tons of one on ones for us over 2 and a half years scoring a hat-trick past you is indeed grounds for a sackable offence.
