I’d take Murray to be honest and I genuinely think Carol will hire a younger manager that will buy into her ethos for the club.

what’s so bad about Flitcroft? I know he’s not well liked by any of his previous clubs but why?

Flitcroft isn’t really disliked by Mansfield fans, he came in, ruined a promotion season, then the next season we played the first half playing the best football I’ve seen at the Mill, but messed it all up from January onwards, and another promotion was ruined.

He always had a good relationship with the fans though, and always came across a nice bloke, and despite what anybody says he’s clearly a very good coach - the players loved him and he improved a lot of them and helped their career going forward (Tyler Walker, CJ Hamilton spring to mind)

Swindon fans don’t like him because he left them with 12 games to ago, not really sure on Bury.

Be interesting to see, it’s why I worry about Heskey!

Mind you I really wanted Gannon and look what a shit show that was! His CV and everything was spot on, but he was a complete loon. Tore apart the Adams way which was 2nd in the league and ended up getting lamped by Horsfield on the team coach down to Aldershot!

We all wanted Aspin and that didn’t turn out great, although he did keep us up first year when we looked gone after 12/13 games and only 5 points.

The issue with new managers is we’ve been there, Martin Foyle and Dean Glover... tainted two legends of the best teams the club had on the field, then Michael Brown! Rob Page was mixed.

At least with Carol we won’t go exotic and end up getting back into this league after hiring someone from Portugal on Mourinho recommendation and scouting Europe on YouTube to build that 16-17 squad. (Although oddly some of that side has played in European club competitions since! Big Reg even got a Champions League hatrick! And Kiko has been knocking around the Europa this season!)

Just read up on Murray a bit, it seems he did better than I remembered. Am I right in thinking Mansfield weren't spunking quite as much dough at that time too? How come he could only get the Boston job after? Seems like he did well enough to at least get something in the Conference Prem.

When Adam Murray took over from Cox we had a budget below £1 Million, and I think only Morecambe and Stanley were lower, then it was increased to a mid-table budget at best, and he signed the likes of Benning, Pearce, Rose, Bennett, I think he might have signed CJ Hamilton too. He got sacked for being too negative and that was likely down to inexperience but he made some brilliant signings for the money he was given.

Quite... signing the best centre-back in the division was some coup.

Few people on social media saying we are looking at Stephen Robinson who has just resigned at Motherwell.

Talk that the messiah has contacted the club regarding the Vale vacancy... could it be the third coming?

Sadly think that ship has sailed as much as I love him though.

Micky Adams and Vale just fit together. Some managers just do well at certain clubs and Micky at Vale is one of them. I’d honestly welcome him back. We need a manager who isn’t prepared to take shit and Micky is certainly that.

I would have him back, especially if needed to fire fight if we get another couple of bad results and get in a mess, as a short term option it would buy us time.

That promotion side was incredible to watch, hammering promotion rivals 6-2 and 7-1, hammering Fleetwood away 5-2 on a Tuesday night was a cracking evening out. JMW and Vincent tearing sides apart for fun and the Pontiff turning into Ronaldo for a year. Truly incredible. When life was good eh!

So the latest on Vale...

Emile Heskey has dropped away from the running now 7/1, oddly Graham Coughlan has come from nowhere to be 6/4 favourite, get the Rovers version it would be a good appointment, get the Mansfield one not so!

The other big mover is Danny Cowley dropping from 14/1 to 6/1 overnight, a lot of rumours this morning that he has held talks with Vale; although rumours he is going Wrexham maybe Vale would be a more tempting project being EFL. He would be my choice but would be a big coup to get him.

His interview on Football Focus did make him and Vale sound the perfect fit.

Despite rumours of Frank Sinclair being the issue behind the scenes with Askey allegedly he turned down the interim job and doesn’t want the top job after disasters at Colwyn Bay and Hednesford.

Stranger things have happened. We’ve had talks apparently but will have to see. Imagine money will be a key factor.

SkyBet influenced 99% of our managerial talk, a different favourite every day, most of which were never in the frame - Lowe, Parkinson, Sol Campbell... I don’t think it takes much money placed on a random name for their odds to come in from no where and suddenly appear to be a contender.

Our new manager odds swung wildly based on a few daft twats on Twitter requesting a bet from SkyBet. No money was being put on - at one point some women's football manager in Scotland was the favourite!

Not saying it has anything to do with Barrow but I wonder when we will get a woman manager in the efl?

Theres some bloody good women coaches out there so its only a matter of which club has (pardon the expression) the balls to do it.

Yeah it's not exactly a book that's filled with money, a daft £20 on Johnny Donuts will see him go fav.

I think an issue might be convincing the top female managers to come to the EFL. Like Emma Hayes who manages Chelsea, why would she want to come to a L2 team? Her job security would be a lot worse and she's bound to face abuse due to a lot of football fans still living in the middle ages.

This was some bloke who coaches a women's team. Didn't Stevenage already go down that route and it turned out he was a bit of a wrong 'un?

Cant see the cowley rumour being true. From what I've been told we haven't made an approach for any manager and are only going through applicants.

Absolutely no chance Danny Cowley will be going to Vale Park as home team manager. There's also no chance he'll go Wrexham too. Charlton or Ipswich is where he'll end up whoever sacks their manager first.

Bloke was on £1.5 million a year at Huddersfield, he'd barely be on 10% of that at Vale...

if there is anything in the Danny Cowley rumours at all then I think we should do the decent thing and get a psychology test done on him before we finalise it.

he could come and scrap it out at a bottom half league 2 team because they hand some dinners out to hungry kids if he wants, otherwise he could wait a couple of months get another job, donate half his money to charity and still take home a lot more than we could pay.

The finance might not be an issue if they have a huge pay off from Huddersfield that runs for a while for instance they could top that up with a modest wage whilst the rebuild their rep.

I don’t think it will happen but stranger things have happened. If Pugh gets us on a decent run I still think he will get it.

Paul Simpson I think. I also think he did well for Carlisle before moving to womens football.

It would not be a nailed on success if someone appoints a woman. Its not a nailed on success no matter who you appoint. I just hope that when a woman does fail at a club it will be seen as a manager failing not a woman...somehow I doubt it though.

Not sure Paul Simpson has worked in women’s football but he did one of the England age group teams.

The Stevenage guy is Mark Sampson, was England manager prior to Neville taking over. Still there I think as assistant manager to Revell. He’s twice been accused of racist language and been cleared both times, also got the sack from the England job for something that happened prior to him having it come to light. Don’t think anything overt has come out about him but it’s definitely one there’s a few too many things happened in his career that means he probably isn’t going higher than an assistant type.

My bad. Getting them mixed up.

Doesn't detract from the point about women coaches though.
