Fully agree Smudge. If we finish mid table, no silverware and no Europa league next season then I can see us losing a lot of players. Stones, Barclay and Lukaku will go I think. Then where will we be?
where we always will be AVERAGE until we get investment or a new owner

Its not wocket science really LOL

Martinez bores me to death in his press conferences, he just keeps rambling on and never gets to point

Seriously today has to be the last straw. How many more 2 goal leads can we throw away?

My last straw was City in the Cup. That today stunk of total arrogance, the old 'manager showing everyone how clever he is.' The 3 at the back thing we started with was awful, and we were fortunate at half time to be ahead, but ironically, given that West Ham threw caution to the wind and threw a load of big men up, we were exposed playing that second half with our tallest centre half off the pitch. Then that Lennon sub...we were totally in control by that point, him and Lukaku were causing problems, and West Ham werent threatening us any more...so we took off our outlet, and that was that. Pressure kept on buolding, and then he brings on gareth Barry...who apparently was too ill to play today, but then if he was so fit, why the hell was on the bench? And why the hell did we bring him on in the final minute, change our shape for a 3rd time in the match, and see him give the ball away in the lead up to the winner? Another game that we have already won, that we conspired to throw away. And this time, it wasnt the players who threw it away, the players were fantastic and adapted so well to the red card, that you wouldnt have known we had 10 men for much of the game. And then the manager decided to mess with everything. And he's got his obligatory convenient excuses, as he can blame Mirallas for the red card, and Lukaku for the penalty miss. Nobody is buying it though, we've been watching his shit all season, and nobody is buying his excuses any more. Yes, we dont lose that if Lukaku scores the penalty, but we were still on top and still having chances. We didnt just have the game won because we were 2-0 up, West Ham were not in the game at all, they couldnt handle us going forward. And then we changed everything. Once again, take a look at the timings. Lennon went on 76, West Ham got back into the game when they scored on 78.

Monk would do well at Everton. A sort of Moyes/Martinez hybrid.

Our biggest threat to West Ham was Lennons pace on the break. What does he do instead of bringing on a defensive player like Barry to see the game out..............brings on another striker.............what a bellend.

i'd take Rodgers atm i really would.

Martinez should not be given another season after this. We could finish with potentially our worst home form since 1994. The sheer ineptitude of the man to close games down from winning positions is staggering. His failed "we'll score more than you" philosophy is idiotic and the worrying thing is, he NEVER learns. He took Wigan down because he refused to abandon his principals, and he has squandered the talent of a quality Everton side. Time to go you useless sack of shit.

Martinez think the refs shouldn't "apply the letter of the law"..

Well what are they supposed to do?

If a player dives then it's his own fault..

He's hounded because the fans have ambition and are sick to the back teeth with piss poor performances which are far too often the fault of dire decision making from the manager.

Chris Sutton absolutely slaughtered Martinez on Five Live tonight and he's spot on in everything he says. While he is right that we have had had some terrible decisions go against us, especially around New Year, he has absolutely no credibility in pointing that out when he wont own up when we have got away with equally terrible decisions. First saying Stones' last minute tackle on Sterling at City wasnt a pen (when even from the top tier of the opposite goal that night, I could see how blatant it was!), and now having a go at the ref over the Mirallas red card, which there is absolutely no defence for.

As for blaming bad decisions for costing you games, I dont believe you can blame decisions when you havent done enough yourself. Example, we drew 0-0 at Blackburn about 10 years ago, and had a last minute winner disallowed for offside. It was one of the most onside goals ever, not even a close call, and at least 3 men were playing him on, but it was somehow disallowed and we drew 0-0. I can legitimately say the officials are the reason we did win that game, because we did everything we could have, including scoring a goal, but the officials made a bad error that robbed us of that goal.

This season has been nothing like that incident. Take every game this season where a bad refereeing decision has cost us:

3-3 at Bournemouth, the ref played well over the allocated stoppage time. The fact we had already thrown away a 2-0 lead with about 10 minutes left means nothing to Martinez. All the refs fault.
3-4 at home to Stoke. Stones wins the ball with a last minute tackle, but the ref gives a pen. The fact we were 3-2 up with 10 minutes left and still couldnt hold on against a side who always struggle for goals away from home means nothing to Martinez. All the refs fault.
3-3 at Chelsea, the ref plays well over the allocated stoppage time and the ref fails to see John terry is clearly in an offside position to equalise. The fact we were again 2-0 up and gifted a terrible Chelsea side a way back into a game they were never in in the first place, and that we had already gone through the last minute winner quick equaliser thing at Bournemouth and learned nothing means nothing to Martinez. All the refs fault.
3-1 at City in the Cup. Ball clearly out of play when City went 2-1 up. The fact we led 3-1 in the tie and still managed to lose 4-3 after his subs lost us control of the game mean nothing to Martinez. All the refs fault.
Various games, having a go at the ref for decisions that have gone against us, but were completely right! The penalties against Leicester and Swansea, the Mirallas red card on Saturday.

It's no coincidence to me that all of these incidents are since that Bournemouth game in November. We werent doing too badly before that. We'd only lost to City, United and Arsenal, and although we were letting in too many goals, we were scoring plenty too. Bournemouth away I think is ultimately the point that effectively ended Martinez here. Because there are no excuses for what went on that day from our side, the manager and the players showed a complete lack of organisation, leadership, and even knowhow to deal with what went on. Able to look like worldbeaters in the first half when Bournemouth didnt turn up, utterly clueless what to do when they came out second half and had a go at us. The comments after that game should have been all about how the manager and players got everything wrong and needed to make it up. Instead, it was about the ref. Blame the ref, then we dont have to look at ourselves.

Interesting. Seen a lot of rumours too of unrest from several players over what's gone on the last 2 seasons. Given the tales of mutiny from the likes of Distin and Eto'o last season, it wouldn't surprise me. Especially as several senior players have had their game time hugely reduced, Baines, Deulofeu, Gibson etc. Lennon has been on fire lately but the second we go behind, he is the man we replace, and Naismith was frozen out for 2 months before we booted him out to Norwich when he was a very good player for us.

I like Martinez and always have, hes made Everton great to watch. I think he should be given time and money to fully make his mark on the club.

Lets remember that many clubs are underachieving this season, its been a strange one that's for sure.

This is his third season... How long should he get?

I like Martinez but I don't think he's a very good manager. Far too idealistic, refuses to learn the obvious lessons, lacks the ruthlessness to be a winner.

Hey, maybe he should manage Arsenal!!!

Correct. I gave him the benefit of the doubt last season because we were so good in his first season, I think he deserved a bit of leeway after that. This season has been worse than last season.

And it's not like he can be considered a 'young' manager. He's managed for nearly 10 years now.

You don't want to allow yourself into a situation where Lukaku, Barkley, Deulofeu and Stones have their heads turned either, because that is a top quality set of young players that could be massive in the future for Everton.

I agree. It was always likely because of our financial situation, but with this takeover and the TV deal, we definitely now have a platform to really build on. But I can still see them all looking elsewhere because they can play in Europe regularly and win things rather than play for a boss underachieving mid table side.

Contradiction right there we have had no right to be anywhere other than mid-table with the finances we have had, if anything Moyes at least had us well over achieving.

Get real this isn't the 1980's.

Well done, one of Kenwright's little pets buying the 'plucky little Everton' party line. Im just off to get Leicester City on the phone and tell them they're dreaming about being top of the League because they havent spent enough money to be that high up. Its not about who's got the most money, it's about what you do with it, and for all my criticisms of Moyes, one thing he was always very good at was spotting a bargain he could get something out of.

Go for it, I dont really care. As Ive just pointed out, its not fantasy football, its not about money, it's managing with what you've got. And to us under Moyes, that was managing on a budget. Then every couple of years, getting big money for a player likes Lescott, and spending the money on improving the squad. That's generally how most clubs operate. If clubs spent more than us to finish lower, that doesnt mean we are 'punching above our weight ' at all. It's just bad management from other clubs. Newcastle have spent about £75 million since last summer, are they only seen as underachieving because they've spent money?
