I could hear the support throughout - good job folks!

There seems to have been a feeling since the day after the playoff final that this league is a puzzle that we've finally solved, and even though we still have to play the games and there will be setbacks along the way (didn't realize that today was going to be one though!), there seems to be an air of inevitability about the support that this will be our year. The squad moves and preseason haven't done any harm either. I haven't felt this way about Town in 25 years - since Buckley's first promotion! I'll be over in October to catch a couple of matches.

On the way and home and pretty content with our performance. Goddard got one cleared off the line and then Rendell gots stretched off in the first half to end our season. We won't ceoncede many if we defend like we did today. Got done by a well taken free kick but that was all that was between the two sides, apart from the referee - we were reffed out of it.

Grimsby and Eastleigh won't have to worry about Tranmere too much. Maybe solid enough for the play-offs. Didn't look like a title winning side.

Woking were on top first 30 minutes and if you'd scored then, things could have gone very different. Rendell's injury looked bad and had a understandable impact on his team-mates. We clawed our way back into the match at the tail-end of the first half and were the better side in the second, but not much to separate the sides.
While my view has been the play-offs are the best we can hope for, with Cole Stockton, who's unsuited to play lone striker on his tod up-front and a clearly unfit Norwood playing rght-wing, this was a surprising starting line-up. With Mangan and Margetts not leaving the bench, we're a stronger attacking force than this game suggests.
Don't know what the Woking gripe is with the referee. He gave a lot of free-kicks for fairly minimal contact, but was consistent about it. Rovers had two penalty shouts turned down, but neither were stone-wallers. Seen far worse on the League list.

He's played well in pre-season too and couldn't fault for effort. Maybe he'd grown stale at Wrexham and has been re-energised by switching clubs.

Didn't really turn up today and were definitely short of ideas up front, as were tranmere. Neither team had many chances and we simply lost to a free kick, which happens some games.

Had an eventful time after the game in the sportsmans arms pub with the local tranmere smackheads coming round looking for a fight. The genuine Tranmere fans I was speaking to in that pub were all top blokes and fair play to them all for backing us up when they realised we had no interest in a scrap. Would love to go there again next year if they stay down, very welcoming and down to earth people.

Haven't been in there since it was done up last year will have to go again. Glad you enjoyed the visit, there are more than a few idiots who tag onto Tranmere after trouble, but far more decent fans. I'm doubtful we'll escape at the first attempt, so you should have the chance of a return visit.

Tight game yesterday, but delighted to get the win to get the ball rolling. First half I think Macclesfield were the better team, but both teams looked solid defensively, so chances were few and far between. Our only chance in the first 45 came after about 15 seconds, when loan striker Quigley fired across goal. Macc had a good chance well saved by Speiss. Thought Whittaker was Macc's best player throughout, he's good at this level and an important re-signing for them.

Second half we stepped it up a bit, and took the lead through the impressive Alex Fisher. After the goal a couple of Macc fans decided to start fighting with stewards which was bizarre. Unsure if anything happened beforehand but a couple got chucked out.

The big positive for me was getting the three points with a side that had not played with each other before - there were 9 new signings and that starting XI had not played in pre-season. Exodus is a very agricultural defender, but recovered well to clear up a couple of his own mistakes. He and Angus MacDonald were solid throughout. Also impressed with the loanees of Nathan Smith and Josh Carmichael. Quigley started brightly up top but faded as the game wore on.

All in all, dead happy with the points to get us on the board - it isn't going to be pretty football under Cox but if it gets results and eventually gets us out of here...

Sounds like we worked hard but were second best. Not much attacking threat from us.

Hoping to go along to the Woking game next week. Hopefully being the away side and looking to play on the counter will suit us better.

Well, we actually got the 3 points. What a strike from Harris. The only bit of genuine quality in the entire game to be honest. We were poor. Very poor, in fact. We looked solid enough at the back but Woking had way too much time on the ball in the first half and for the last 10 minutes too. A massive improvement needed if we are to challenge at the very top. I'm sure we can get better - Mangan and Margetts didn't even get a minute, so we have options.

I suppose it's hard to argue with being the first team in a while to win their first game after relegation, but we didn't deserve it. P.S. Woking fans, I hope Rendell is ok but it didn't look good. You had nothing in the final third when he went off.

Agree. It was shortly after 30 minutes that Rendell got injured and we lost our way. He's massive for us and we didn't have anyone who could challenge/win things in the air up front after he went off. Like you said, losing Rendell clearly had an effect on our players and probably yours too seeing him go off.

P.S. Woking fans, I hope Rendell is ok but it didn't look good. You had nothing in the final third when he went off.

Having a scan this week. Signs don't look good judging by his reaction to it - taking oxygen whilst on the pitch. Hopefully it's one where it's excruciating pain but it quickly settled down. I can't see it being that at the moment though.

The debates been done a lot on here. My opinion is he had a good first season followed by not being given a chance in the second. Granted that was down to fitness and a lack of confidence, a lack of confidence due to the fact he wasn't playing behind players who got into the team regardless. We forget how young he still was at the time too. He'll have a good season this season.

My opinion is that his attitude stopped him from progressing. When not playing, he didn't keep his fitness up properly (according to a good source at the club). The ultimate confidence player and when things didn't go his way, he sulked. For such a young lad, he was not in good shape.

I said when he was here he had a poor attitude and not just while at the club but also while supposedly doing stuff for the club in the community. Sitting in the car on the phone while another player goes and helps with kids coaching is not the sort of player we want, ultimately it was his attitude and fitness that led to him not playing in his second season.

Let's hope this tiring argument doesn't come up everything Cook scores this season because it proves nothing, plenty of players do well at one club and not others, he wasn't and still isn't good enough for us.

Sorry about some of our scumbags mate they probably didnt even fork out the 17 quid to go the game.

Don't worry mate I know, the trouble we had wasn't with anyone inside the pub, we were standing outside when they rolled up looking for it. The main local starting the trouble was in the away end, obviously looking for a fight. Weird thing is that same guy was drinking with a known female Woking fan and a few others before the game, buying everyone shots apparently. Everyone inside the sportsmans were sound, some even offered to pay for our taxi back to Lime Street!! (we didn't actually take their money though)

We had a great chance in the first minute but it straight down the keeper's throat. They looked very good on the break especially in the first half and one of those break lead to them taking the lead. We created a few good chance ourselves but failed to take them.
Into the second half they seemed happy to sit on their lead and got more into it, brought Hearn on and he marked his debut with a well taken header we dominated after that although Cheltenham had a great chance at the death.
Draw about fair just hoping Hearn is fully fit soon as him off Rhead looks the way to go for us upfront, dont want to see him out wide as Rhead need him there to feed off the headers knockdowns and hold up he makes so well.
Farman made some superb saves again.

Not really unbelievable is it? Just the latest Mickey Mouse outfit with a chairman writing blank cheques for them. Back where they came from season after next when his money's run out.

I'll always keep an eye out for Cook's progress because regardless of his attitude he is a very good player and I think he can forge a decent career out for himself. I wouldn't swap any of our current strikers for him but would definitely have him besides them.

Disappointing to not win yesterday but it sounds like we played very well, something we don't tend to do for a at least a few weeks into the season so that's a positive. We need to be winning on Tuesday though, we need to grab our home games by the neck and show some aggression and intent of we're gonna achieve anything. Sounds like Amond and Bogle were both promising so I think we'll be fine.

On another day it would of been Woking walking away with 3 points, that lad Goddard really should of put his chance away and Tranmere won't score from many free kicks like that again this season.
Whilst it wasn't the most entertaining of games I thought Woking showed good shape on the pitch and was very pleased with the performances from Jennings and Maynard of Tranmere.
Sickening to see that lad go off on a stretcher.
Sorry to hear about the Cards fans getting threatened in the Sportsman, although you will make more friends in Birkenhead by refraining from singing "ya dirty northern b@57@rds"!

Not nice of me to say, but if they're another flash in the pan that would be reassuring. Can't say I'm particularly fond of sides with wage budgets several times that of their gates.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. they don't need the same levels as Salisbury to have a decent budget but I certainly get the impression they've pushed the boat out a very long way. My guess is an average of 700 would see them through, but it's a fair jump from last seasons 300 and Borehamwood isn't that big an area.

They only got 700 against us, with the novelty factor, a good away following, a great sunny day and Arsenal not playing (half price entry for their season ticket holders).

Cannot see that sustaining through the season.

They get a lot of money from non-matchday income -they have Arsenal Ladies playing at their ground and I think their youth teams/reserves, or it's used for some training for some Arsenal teams. No idea how far this goes towards covering the deficit between gate receipts and spending but something to take into consideration.

First chance I've had to post since our game.

An excellent day out soured slightly by Kiddy's late equaliser. We only had ourselves to blame though for not seeing out the game although you can't take anything away from Kiddy for their 2nd goal. A superb cross into the box and a great header, although Toto could maybe have done a bit better.

We should really have been home and dry by half time but their keeper was superb, although we should maybe not have given him the chances to make the save he did, but fair play to the bloke. 2nd half Kiddy came more into it but we gifted them their equaliser. I honestly thought we had done enough when Monkhouse put us back in front but we sat back and Kiddy took full advantage of it, even though I was screaming at us to "Just keep the bloody ball" when the 3 extra minutes went up.

All in all though a decent day out and a word of praise for the Kiddy stewards who handled the inflatable armed masses superbly. They could maybe pop down to Barnet some time and give some of their stewards a few lessons. An incredible atmosphere too and good to see that the Kiddy catering is still as good as ever.
