Grimsby haven't stopped being the Grimsby of last season then
In what way? We probably would have won that 0-1 last season. If we'd have conceded a late equaliser at home you might have had a point.

He's got a point. Hurst's style means that far too often you get punished for sitting back on slender leads. It's happened time and again.

Gutted for your club and most importantly, the player himself. You could tell it was a bad one by the fact he stayed down for a long, long time for something that looked so innocuous. Good luck for the rest of the season.

More so at Blundell Park than away from home though.

Thanks, I have to admit I've been very impressed with your fans/club since you've been here. Haven't seen any 'big club mentality' or anything like that. As soon as we stepped off the coach on Saturday there was a Tranmere fan shaking hands and welcoming us.

RIP our season.

Same with us and our best player, Luke Young. Done his cruciate and out for the season. Sucks, doesn't it?

What was it, a landing/tackle/twist?

Twist. He was defending a free-kick and the delivery was over hit. He was at the back post and turned to shield it out with a Tranmere player behind him. As he turned he sort of collided with the player and his boot must have stuck in the ground. Scott isn't one to go down easily so as soon as he did it we all knew he was in trouble.

Has it? Only dropped points from winning positions three times last season. Dover in which we scored quite late anyway before they equalised. Yourselves but you didn't score late so we wasn't exactly defending a slender lead, and Chester which was from sitting back.

Still lets keep pretending we get punished time and again.

It's not just me who thinks it. Here's an insert from your very own Cod Almighty's match report:

Now here's a test of New Town. Stick or twist? Hold on to what we've got by keeping it tight, keeping us shape and grinding out that victory? Or ruthlessly seek out more goals, doing what they did in the first half: pressurising and tackling opponents, passing, moving and attacking?
Well, what do you think happened next? Has our Yorkshire terrier changed its spots?
Nothing was going on. Town let 'em cross. Town let 'em leap. Town let 'em score. Has nothing really changed from last season? First competitive game and the old habits came back – take a lead, sit back, hold on. It didn't work last season or the season before, or the season before. Let's try something different. Take a lead, go forward, score more goals. The firepower is there this year, so use it.
Town tossed away a victory with repeat behaviour worthy of the worst recidivist. We're still positive, but patience will not be infinite this year. We are not blind, but will keep faith.

Can think it all they want, like I said we only lost from winning positions 3 times last season and only one of them was defending a comfortably lead late.

People always remember the bad(mistakes)

Rubbish to hear that Rendell is out all season. Bad news for all in this league, as players like him are a real talent.

Our best striker in my opinion is Richard Peniket, and he's midway through a very long recovery after being injured at Altrincham last season. I hope he comes back the hot prospect he was before.

Much as i agree with what you are saying, we also conceded an injury time equaliser at Altrincham and that was sitting back for the last 20 mins.

No worries. How did you enjoy your trip? We had a few teething problems in the home areas because we had such a vast amount of change over the summer, so hopefully things went well in the newly rebranded 'Willow Catering Stand' (AKA The Cowsheds). Obviously, Rendell injury aside.

Rendell is a big loss. Commiserations.

I did expect Tranmere to be a but less pragmatic than they have appeared so far. Cheltenham on the other hand (or at least their manager) appear to be under the misapprehension that they are somehow bigger than the league. Which is surprising given their relaively meagre league history. You'd think they'd be much more aware of how competitive this league is.

There are Tranmere fans who aren't that old who remember administration, gates of 1,000, crumbling ground etc. Apart from a few scallies, we're an okay bunch. Sorry to hear about Scott, it's never nice to see something like that. All the best to Woking for the rest of the season.

To improve your lot, you first have to accept what your current lot is. I don't like being here, but when you get relegated with less than 40 points and bottom of the entire football league you can't really argue you deserve to be here. It's a chance to learn about new teams, new grounds and a new way of doing things so, personally, I'm using that rather than focusing on the negatives. Feeling sorry for ourselves or looking down on other clubs isn't going to get us promotion, so what's the point? For example, I'm really enjoying the non-league paper, which I had never thought of buying before now.
Also, I suspect the atmosphere will be slightly more partisan when Wrexham and Chester turn up. (In a friendly way, of course ).

It was pretty enjoyable day - result, referee and Rendell aside. I didn't go in the away bar or have any the food there so maybe someone else can fill you in regarding that. However, did go in the pub right next to the ground. All friendly in there and spoke to a few of your fans about this season.

I remember many of our tussles over the years. Going to Prenton park was always a highlight of the season. Will be good to play you again, not least now you have Harris, Mangan and Riley, all former favourites.

Apart from the fact that I don't enjoy he thought of us being a non league club (although I accepted it a long time ago) the non league scene has rejuvenated my enjoyment of football. If we ever go back up ill still keep tabs of what's happening here and lower down the pyramid. Home of real football ;)

Yeah, whilst plenty of Ex-League fans love to go all BBB and talk about "stuck in this hellhole" "can't take it much longer", some Gas fans last season in particular seemed to enjoy the refreshing change of scene, while still relieved to get out again afterwards. It's not as horrific as some would have you believe, Tranmere fans.

I think quite a few of us are looking forward to the season ahead, and not just because of the prospect of a win or two for a change! Ask me again in February, though... ;)

A crowdfunder to pay for Scott Rendell's surgery has been setup by the club...and its raised over £2000 in a few hours! Someone donated £1000 and Giuseppe Sole has also contributed. Times like these really make you proud of your football club.

Proud that they didn't have insurance?

It's too expensive for the club to fund. Yes it's not ideal but that's where we are. It's a matter that has been discussed before.

Well it's not too expensive. You've made the choice to not have it in favour of a higher wage bill.

I think it's fantastic. A loyal player who turned down better offers to stay with us has just suffered a season-long injury and we're showing our support as a fanbase to help out with expensive costs. Some people just want to criticise everything ffs

The effort is fantastic and I have no criticism of that.

The point is that it shouldn't be needed at all if your club was willing to show a duty of care to its employees. So no one should be proud of the "club", they should be proud of the fans that have bailed them out.

And players agree to sign for us without it? It's their decision too as much as ours.
