Looking forward to Saturdays game and pleasantly surprised the cheat who plays for Welling got a three game ban, interesting precedent set for higher leagues to follow..

Saw us lose 2-4 at home to Chester once. It was a long time ago.

Don't know how much of a rivalry there is these days, as the visitors view Wrexham as their main rivals. I'm guessing there will be a reasonable travelling support over over 1k? At one point, there was talk of trying to beat the Bristol Rovers record attendance for this level, but given the poor football Rovers have been playing, that's a non-starter. Would be surprised if the crowd much exceeds 6k.

Think this game will go one of two ways. If Brabin's ill-judged post match remarks at Welling were purely for press consumption and he recognises how poor that performance was and switches back to a side similar to that v Kidderminster, then a hard fought draw. If he truly believed we played acceptably that game and sends the side out with a similar mentality, the visitors will have an easy win and there will be some very angry voices at Prenton Park. I fear the latter.

I went to that game too, Tranmere 2 Chester 4 Boxing Day 1982 I think. Big crowd that day as the club had just been saved by Wirral council.
Can never remember Chester fans coming to Prenton park in large numbers, think they viewed Birkenhead as some sort of dangerous jungle.

Can't recall that much of the game, it was a decent crowd as you say and Chester played in an all yellow kit. Don't know that there's been much aggro between the fans over the years, maybe because Chester largely stayed away. hoping for a better result on Saturday!

Tranmere V Chester.
It's been a whole quarter of a century since we last met at Prenton park, if I remember rightly Chester won 2-1 despite a wonder goal from Mark Hughes. Chester were managed on a shoe string budget by the late great Harry McNally, whilst Tranmere were in their early stages of John Kings "trip to the moon". What a team Tranmere had then, Nixon Thomas Vickers Higgins Hughes Mungall Bishop Harvey McNab Morrisey Muir Steel Malkin. Chester had quality too with the likes of Brian Croft and Graham Barrow.
Sadly, the property vultures had got in at Sealand road and Chester were exiled to Macclesfield and thus began 2 decades of misery. Tranmere have got no excuses for losing their league status where as Chester had the likes of Stephen Vaughan.
I've got the upmost respect for Chester fans in what they've achieved in getting their club back to where it is now, fantastic achievement! Pity this game is no longer a league fixture.
Sorry to say, but I think Chester will take something from this game. Tranmere are in disarray and the home fans are either silent or getting on the players backs, no doubt we'll be able to muster a few choruses of "your Welsh and you know you are"
Don't think normal Chester fans have got anything to worry about on their visit to Birkenhead, Tranmere's hooligan element has long since retired. There's a few scroates nocking about, but if fronted they'll run a mile.
I'll go for the Same result as 25 years ago played out in front of 6000.
I think the crowd will be bigger than 6,000.

I worked at St Catherine's Hospital for 10 years and yes Birkenhead is a bit scary.

Both clubs have issued a joint statement (see above) regarding this fixture. As a club, we are doing everything we possibly can to encourage your fans to travel and enjoy a healthy rivalry on the pitch, whilst making sure it stays on the pitch.
However, the number of Chester fans online goading our supporters with knives, threats, etc is concerning. I'm not saying ours have all been angels in response, but the majority of the animosity seems to have originated with the Chester fans. All I can do is ask any Chester fans who read this board to read the above statement (it's on your site too) and realise that this is not a fight zone. We've never had a bubble game, you have. If you want another one, then misbehave on Saturday.
Or you could just enjoy what has the potential to be a really good match and atmosphere.

I hesitate to call these idiots Chester fans. The real Chester fans will.just be looking forward to a game against a local team they haven't played for a while. The berks making threats and likely to misbehave are just hangers on who come out for these sort of games. They'll ruin it for everyone else, mark my words.

I am expecting an escort from the train station to a local pub or straight to the ground given the statement and more likely after the game too, for the usual Chester groups.

The police may pick out people to be escorted after the game, happened at Barnsley and Stockport last year, and also once at Halifax away.

Luckily, I don't wear the 80's clobber but fall into a similar age group; hopefully I wont fall under the same constraints traveling by train as many will.

Expect some broken seats and couple of flares/smoke bombs to be going off.

If it goes off on saturday i fear for the return fixture. I remember the days of the tsb meeting in the frog before heading into chester town centre to cause as much mayhem as humanly possible, if chester do cause trouble it will be the catalyst for our teenage scallies who would have shat themselves in the 80s to attempt to cause trouble with the innocent or those that cannot fight back, as a previous poster said if you turn on them they will run. But please lets keep everything calm tomorrow as the only people who will suffer will be dora and percy who are innocently going about their business

We'll have at least 1200, could bring as many as 2k but I doubt it, hard to gauge with it being pay on the day but I think we've sold around 1k advanced tickets. There's definitely still a rivalry there, I know some older supporters who dislike Tranmere even more than they do Wrexham, and the younger supporters are keen to renew it. Despite us not playing in 25 years you still get a mention in a song at most games and most fans acknowledge Wrexham, yourselves and Crewe as our traditional rivals. Our games with Wrexham aren't really enjoyable these days with the travel/ticket restrictions so although they'll always be our main game it will be good to have another derby game without the the restrictions.

The original photo (one with the glasses and knife) is a few years old taken before a Wrexham game. Remember these are snapchats sent between friends that have been screenshotted and posted on the internet, not most people's idea of humour I know but that's all it is meant as. I doubt anyone from either side has taken them seriously.

Regarding bubble fixtures, you have a proper police force, we don't!

If you were at home I'd be lumping on at half that price. Can't see you winning away at the Racecourse given your form on the road though,

There were a couple of big upsets on the road last season. Wrexham were 2-0 up with 15 minutes to go in the corresponding fixture last season, a game Alty won 3-2. Eastleigh were unbeaten at home for months before Alty mugged them in January (all the players were trying their bollocks off, obvs). But yes, in all reality, the away win is unlikely.

Hi Grimsby fans.
Question ~ since we signed Ross Hannah he has missed half our games injured.

Did he miss lots of games injured during his time with you?

Tickets have an instruction that you should sit in the seat number on ticket. Is this likely to be enforced?
Not a big issue, but I intend to arrive early and find a seat with a good view if possible.

We did get two players sent off! I bloody hope that doesn't happen again.

Looks like we will.be missing our first choice RB Vidal and Moke, who has been a revelation in central midfield. That's a lot of pace missing wih those two out.

No Chester fans are going to follow that rule, how can they enforce it.

Could only be enforced if Chester fans moan that they are not in there designated seat.

No, not really. He was usually fit for most games, just didn't get picked that often in his last season here. Definitely not a player I'd have down as injury prone though.

When we have a rough idea of how many are coming, the club usually cordons off enough seats for that number of people and that is where you have to sit. It's normally the Johnny King side of the Cowsheds (nearest the turnstiles). However, due to this being pay on the day and the fact you could bring upwards of 1500, I'd suspect most of the stand will be available.

As for sitting in allocated seats - I've no idea if they will enforce it or not. Usually they put unreserved seating on the ticket, but you should be fine (famous last words).

Is it nearly the weekend already?

Halifax you have a few options on how to play against us;
You can go for the Braintree/Guiseley method where you scrape a 1-0 win
Or the Wrexham/FGR method where you batter us for 90 minutes and win
Or the Grimsby/Tranmere method where you dominate a game and throw it away late on to draw
Then there's the Dover method where you lead then tease us by looking like you'll throw it away then score a late winner.

Aldershot 11/2 and Chester 4/1 with 365 I think are good value. I think we're turning the corner now but there's always room for one more slip up especially against Brodie. Neither Tranmere or Chester are looking great so 4/1 in a derby is worth a punt.

Looking forward to the Chester game. Love the massive beer tent and hog roast the club have put up in the car park, let's hope it doesn't become a scally battle zone - there are signs both clubs will have their idiots in tow.

Tranmere is a family club these days, keep it away from the ground if you have to, eh lads?

Wrexham, Grimsby and FGR are all home bankers for me and Chester look great value at 4-1 to win at Prenton park.
