Looking forward to Saturdays game and pleasantly surprised the cheat who plays for Welling got a three game ban, interesting precedent set for higher leagues to follow..
Saw us lose 2-4 at home to Chester once. It was a long time ago.
Don't know how much of a rivalry there is these days, as the visitors view Wrexham as their main rivals. I'm guessing there will be a reasonable travelling support over over 1k? At one point, there was talk of trying to beat the Bristol Rovers record attendance for this level, but given the poor football Rovers have been playing, that's a non-starter. Would be surprised if the crowd much exceeds 6k.
Think this game will go one of two ways. If Brabin's ill-judged post match remarks at Welling were purely for press consumption and he recognises how poor that performance was and switches back to a side similar to that v Kidderminster, then a hard fought draw. If he truly believed we played acceptably that game and sends the side out with a similar mentality, the visitors will have an easy win and there will be some very angry voices at Prenton Park. I fear the latter.
Can't recall that much of the game, it was a decent crowd as you say and Chester played in an all yellow kit. Don't know that there's been much aggro between the fans over the years, maybe because Chester largely stayed away. hoping for a better result on Saturday!I went to that game too, Tranmere 2 Chester 4 Boxing Day 1982 I think. Big crowd that day as the club had just been saved by Wirral council.
Can never remember Chester fans coming to Prenton park in large numbers, think they viewed Birkenhead as some sort of dangerous jungle.
I think the crowd will be bigger than 6,000.Tranmere V Chester.
It's been a whole quarter of a century since we last met at Prenton park, if I remember rightly Chester won 2-1 despite a wonder goal from Mark Hughes. Chester were managed on a shoe string budget by the late great Harry McNally, whilst Tranmere were in their early stages of John Kings "trip to the moon". What a team Tranmere had then, Nixon Thomas Vickers Higgins Hughes Mungall Bishop Harvey McNab Morrisey Muir Steel Malkin. Chester had quality too with the likes of Brian Croft and Graham Barrow.
Sadly, the property vultures had got in at Sealand road and Chester were exiled to Macclesfield and thus began 2 decades of misery. Tranmere have got no excuses for losing their league status where as Chester had the likes of Stephen Vaughan.
I've got the upmost respect for Chester fans in what they've achieved in getting their club back to where it is now, fantastic achievement! Pity this game is no longer a league fixture.
Sorry to say, but I think Chester will take something from this game. Tranmere are in disarray and the home fans are either silent or getting on the players backs, no doubt we'll be able to muster a few choruses of "your Welsh and you know you are"
Don't think normal Chester fans have got anything to worry about on their visit to Birkenhead, Tranmere's hooligan element has long since retired. There's a few scroates nocking about, but if fronted they'll run a mile.
I'll go for the Same result as 25 years ago played out in front of 6000.
I worked at St Catherine's Hospital for 10 years and yes Birkenhead is a bit scary.I went to that game too, Tranmere 2 Chester 4 Boxing Day 1982 I think. Big crowd that day as the club had just been saved by Wirral council.

Both clubs have issued a joint statement (see above) regarding this fixture. As a club, we are doing everything we possibly can to encourage your fans to travel and enjoy a healthy rivalry on the pitch, whilst making sure it stays on the pitch.
However, the number of Chester fans online goading our supporters with knives, threats, etc is concerning. I'm not saying ours have all been angels in response, but the majority of the animosity seems to have originated with the Chester fans. All I can do is ask any Chester fans who read this board to read the above statement (it's on your site too) and realise that this is not a fight zone. We've never had a bubble game, you have. If you want another one, then misbehave on Saturday.
Or you could just enjoy what has the potential to be a really good match and atmosphere.
That is tempting. We were 5/1 to beat Grimsby.6/1 on Altrincham to win at Wrexham. Despite being pretty sure Wrexham will win, this is too tempting not to.
We did get two players sent off! I bloody hope that doesn't happen again. There were a couple of big upsets on the road last season. Wrexham were 2-0 up with 15 minutes to go in the corresponding fixture last season, a game Alty won 3-2. Eastleigh were unbeaten at home for months before Alty mugged them in January (all the players were trying their bollocks off, obvs). But yes, in all reality, the away win is unlikely.

Tickets have an instruction that you should sit in the seat number on ticket. Is this likely to be enforced?
Not a big issue, but I intend to arrive early and find a seat with a good view if possible.
Hi Grimsby fans.
Question ~ since we signed Ross Hannah he has missed half our games injured.
Did he miss lots of games injured during his time with you?

No Chester fans are going to follow that rule, how can they enforce it.
Could only be enforced if Chester fans moan that they are not in there designated seat.

Is it nearly the weekend already?
Halifax you have a few options on how to play against us;
You can go for the Braintree/Guiseley method where you scrape a 1-0 win
Or the Wrexham/FGR method where you batter us for 90 minutes and win
Or the Grimsby/Tranmere method where you dominate a game and throw it away late on to draw
Then there's the Dover method where you lead then tease us by looking like you'll throw it away then score a late winner.
