Easy win today should have been more, Gray could of had 4 by himself, Only complaint is another poor goal conceded
Don't understand why Alty keep Reeves on the bench so long, looked sharp when on and probably should of scored his header

Southport scored from a corner, only way they looked like scoring really (4 goals against, all from set pieces). KMB had two good chances in 60secs at start of the 2nd half to put us 3-up and Wedgebury hit the crossbar. Should have been out of sight.

Hope I get some credit from the Grimsby fans. I predicted a 4-0 win against Boreham and a 3-0 win in today's game in the September thread. Well ok, the BWood game finished 3-1, and today ended up 4-1, but I was close enough. 2/2 right. I feel like my predictions have had a hand in helping the Mariners get back on track, no?

Now come on, give me some credit guys :cool1:

Congratulations on incorrectly predicting the scores of two...not one (!) Grimsby Town scores.

Braintree v Barrow was pretty dull. Braintree were probably the better team. Livesey and Grand struggled against the physicality of Marks, Braintree will have been disappointed not to exploit them more I thought. Akinola had a lot of success down Barrow's right against Williams, but a lot of that was because van den Broek offered no real protection. Ashton had a good game at left back. Pilkington improved Barrow a lot when he came on. Pretty dull game though.

Alfreton 4(Robertson pen 10, Jackson 60, Jones 74,79) Hednesford 0

We were fantastic Second half. The movement of Robertson and Jackson was too much for Hednesford who struggled to cope. Roberson looks like a shred signing. 2 goals and an assist in 2 appearances so far.

Thats three wins on the bounce now and its clear the lads are beginning to get accoustomed to what this league is all about. Sam Jones who was felled for the pen and scored a superb brace was rightly given MOTM. His best game in an alfreton shirt by a mile.

Hednesford rarely threathened although Sean Williams did smack the inside of the post with a few minutes left. Bernard McNally looks to have quite thejob on with Hedneford though. They looked extremely ordinary and struggled badly went we got at them.

About time we won in front of a decent gate! Very good first half performance from us, had a few chances to make it 3 second half but sat off them and allowed Chester more time on the ball towards the end, which could ultimately have cost us if the penalty had gone in. No idea if it was a pen or not, I was at the other end of the ground, but Wayne's effort in the week was a bit better than John's today...

Yet another error from John Worsnop gifted the game to Tranmere, who despite bigging themselves up will be lucky to finish in the top 5. Expected us to get at least a point, but if you gift goals and miss penalties it a big ask. Can't see beyond FGR to be honest. We've gone downhill since our decent first 4 games.

We had ANOTHER sending off today, I think it's our 4th in 3 weeks. Cost us today as we ended up drawing at home to Brackley, still confident we'll go up but it's so hard to play with ten men for 78 minutes.

Also, Glenn Rule has been given a ten match ban for an alleged bite!

Matt Rhead is the league's top goalscorer, just as I predicted at the start of the season.
He's a goal machine!
Dunk Bayes was moaning about him at half time and said all he does is head it on and score the odd penalty, priceless!!!
A fully deserved win, hit the woodwork 3 times again and they scored a fluke to take the lead.
Stand out players for us were Wood and Bush again, Hawkridge looked good again once he went on the wing

Some proper handbags on high street after, apparently not all the 85 Boreham Wood fans were Boreham Wood fans as a decent sized group suddenly charged with around 10 minutes left. Seems something went off around the Shakespeare pub lot of police and a couple of ambulances, not good.

Who on earth has been bigging us up? I've only seen pessimism and 'we're going to get relegated again' hysterics! You're imagining things. Sour grapes?

A very good win against Eastleigh, if we get a result on Tuesday then I'll start believing we can make top 5 again

Second versus third on Tuesday! As if Mills return to Gateshead wasn't going to be interesting enough.

My running days are over. Parked at Total Fitness and caught bus down to Borough Road.
No sour grapes. First time in 6 years we've been in a proper ground. 1,526 is probably more than you'll bring to us.

This starting 11 is clicking, slowly but surely.

Bogle is already looking well worth the money too.

Fully deserved win today.

We weren't great in the first half but hit the woodwork 3(?) times, a goalmouth scramble, cleared off the line and Muldoon missing what looked like a sitter. We were with the wind and Boreham Wood couldn't really get out but we didn't get going until 20 minutes in.

Their goal was a fluke of all flukes. Their guy was in the box, pretty much in line with the by-line it looked like, and it's clipped off Waterfall's boot, hit the turf, looped over Farman, bounced and gone into the roof of the net.

Hawkridge hit the bar from a free kick and we started the second half much better. Boreham Wood had one breakaway, which their guy skied a shot from 10 yards but, again, they couldn't get out despite having the wind with them.

Rhead played a very sloppy ball to Wood but we ended up getting the penalty from it and Wood nipped in. Edwards has pulled off a cracking save from a Rhead header. We were perhaps slightly fortunate with our second. Player reaction tells you a lot and it looked like Robinson has headed wide and Edwards has let the ball run for a GK but a corner was given. From that, Rhead heads in at the back post. Simmon's heads in a Hawkridge cross for the third in injury time.

We weren't great in the first half and had we gone in 0-0, you'd have been pretty satisfied but being 1-0 down seemed to have everyone in the dumps despite us doing ok and Boreham Wood doing very little.

If today is anything to go by, Boreham Wood have one of the relegation places sewn up IMO. They were incredibly limited like the Tamworth and Bath City we've had over the last 3 or 4 years. A bit of pace out wide but poor passing, very small side, no physical presence and woeful up front. The ran out of legs around 55 minutes in and got deeper and deeper, inviting pressure. For the final 20 minutes we were only really playing with the two CB's at the back. It was as though, fitness wise, we were playing a side who were 2 or 3 leagues lower.

In any event, they were looking for a point from KO. Edwards was taking an age over all GK's.

Well I'm pretty downbeat after that, I really thought we'd at least gift them a second goal to hand them the points but Aspin needs to have a word with one or two of his players who seemed determined to win the game. The Conference North title in 2017 just slipped a little bit out of our grasp today. On to Guisly on Tuesday, surely to God they'll get us back on track with a panning or I'll be starting an Aspin out movement. :ds:

You're all tinpot for missing the biggest game of the day once again.

It's AFCR&D visiting Bedfont & Feltham in the FA Cup. It's the cup, of course it outranks your silly "national" games... ;)

Going out today would be the worst FA Cup run in our short new history, just beating last season by virtue of getting through a game less to go out at the same stage, also to lower opposition rather than higher.

If we turn up well on the day we can certainly make it through. We'll have to work for it though.

We did have to work for it in the end, but we are through. A 2-1 victory in fairly odd circumstances in a game that was never really good despite a lot going on. We played OK and did a job. They couldn't cope with either winger racking up multiple yellow cards for fouls on each of them, with the RB finally being the one to walk. We decided to level things out as Jack Ashton launched in to a stupid needless challenge on halfway and saw a straight red. They had a soft penalty saved by Finlay in our goal, we lacked a bit of cutting edge to link the forwards to the rest of the side.

Overall we did deserve the win and 2-1 is probably about fair. The only real gripe we can have is an important player going and getting himself suspended when we could really do without it. In the hat on Monday is the important thing.

Been told they were from Luton make of it what you will, trouble is we do have quite a few morons of various ages and our reputation precedes us sadly.

Gutted to miss us score more than one goal in a game to be honest although we didn't play well from what I've heard.
Mowgli is away recharging his roar with a spell of sea air this week :D
