I saw that on our fans forum and twitter, taking the news with a massive pinch of salt this time.

I was yesterday, but Nixon is implying we'll find out tomorrow.

If he is going, I hope he waits until after the game on Sunday, so Carver can hopefully take them down providing by miracle that Hull win - and you'll be facing eachother next season!

Maybe something to do with McClaren wanting a revised contract, despite signing a new contract back in November. If rumours are true, the ownership group meeting didn't go too well for Mac. Probably why he wasn't invited to attend this season.

What exactly are wrong with either Benitez or McClaren?
They are both successful Coaches with Championship titles and in (Benitez's case, European titles) to their names.

So, why do you think they laughable candidates?

You missed the point.

I compared Rafa Benitez to Steve McClaren, hence why I said the candidates range from Benitez to McClaren.

McClaren - the guy that took a team like Boro to the final of UEFA Cup or the guy that won the Dutch title with FC Twente?
Yep, he's a proper mug isn't he?!..........

With the greatest of respect towards Derby County, do you not think that the fact that he is managing them at this current stage, and the fact that he won Erdivisie and could only get a Championship club says a lot about him and the Erdivisie?

I mean no disrespect to McClaren, but he's not in the same category as Rafa Benitez.

Also - this changed my opinion on him ever so slightly...

He is regarded as one of the best coaches available.
This is the reason that he's on all the bookies short lists for all Premier League jobs.

Former England manager will meet with Derby chief executive on Thursday with position increasingly uncertain and he could leave club in next 48 hours
Steve McClaren's future at Derby County has been plunged back into doubt as he heads for crunch talks with the club hierarchy.

McClaren will meet with Derby chief executive Sam Rush on Thursday with his position increasingly uncertain and he could even depart the iPro Stadium in the next 48 hours.

Paul Clement, the Real Madrid No 2, is understood to have already been targeted as a potential replacement if McClaren leaves the club after just over 20 months in charge.

Rush flew out to New York last week to meet Derby's American owners and it is believed McClaren's future was one of the main topics of debate after their remarkable late season collapse.

Derby missed out on a play-off place on the final day of the Cha‎mpionship season and there has been growing frustration behind the scenes over the speculation linking the former England manager with the Newcastle job.

McClaren turned down Newcastle to stay at Derby

McClaren had told Derby he wanted to stay after rejecting the chance to take over at Newcastle for the final three games of the Premier League season.

But Derby are due to appoint Mel Morris, the Candy Crush tycoon, as their new chairman and McClaren fears he could be a casualty of the new regime.

Rush will demand assurances from the 54-year-old over his commitment to the job, while he is also expected to discuss the budget that will be available for next season. Sources have claimed the meeting "could go either way".

Clement has support in the Derby board room and is a likely target if McClaren's reign is finished.

Here we go.

Spot on cock, they love a number 9, not like we all don't, I remember the greatest fans in the world having 13k in 91 under Ardiles, but they've had if harder than most, not like City or Leeds or Wolves or Norwich or Wednesday who've suffered 3rd tier football.
One of them has had recent(ish) experience of the fourth division. That was fucking grim. Geordies get wound up and start moaning if they have a run of one defeat in a row.
I remember a phone in on the radio towards the end of a season a few years ago when a Geordie caller was suggesting that 'big' clubs should be exempt from relegation. Funniest bit was when the presenter suggested it was a great idea but why would that save Newcastle from going down?

Think I saw Paul Jewell at St Pancras carrying a toy sheep with horns sellotaped on it.
I was behind him in the queue at the ticket office. It was noisy and I didn't hear where he said he was going but it sounded like "Single to Arby, please mate". So sounds like he's going to either Sheffield or Nottingham..... watch out, lads.

Clement would be really interesting If it came to that. His coaching record is obviously top notch. But it's also fair to say that managing in the blood and thunder of the Championship is somewhat different to coaching Real Madrid's world class squad in a division with only one or two comparable opposition.

But I'm sure bringing an inflatable sheep to the job interview would clinch it.

Doubt it as Ancellotti will not be there.
If he goes to City, we'll probably get some of their players in (should we replace McClaren with Clement).

I think you are only allowed 2 from one club now after all the fuss (understandable) about our Udinese/Granada loans.

Only 2 you say :pond:
Well we'll have Kompany and Toure - that's not asking for too much :2thumb:

A few stories linking Clement with us as well (pretty much every and any lower PL upper Championship club with a vacancy at the moment).

Jol was linked with us the other day but it got shot down by our owner. I'm guessing whoever it is has been appointed already and we are just waiting for end of season meetings to be over.

Adding another midfielder that doesn't like tracking back isn't what you need I'd argue.
