Well no, but surely that decision should not have been made yet if this was happening. This should have happened weeks ago, if that was what the board wanted.

IMO it's the wrong call. Yes he's been infuriating with not putting the Newcastle speculation to bed, but up until the last 13 games where we were crippled with injuries, he had us playing fantastic football. I might be wrong, but I believe he still has the best winning ratio than any other Derby manager.

The mighty Rams!!!
I agree to an extent rammy but his handling of the situation with Newcastle was ridiculous and as his employer it must have pissed the owners and Sam rush off!

Be very interesting to see how Paul Clement would do, had one hell of an apprenticeship so far!

Wasn't Karanka at Madrid?

Maybe they are hoping for the same kind of impact...

It seems like a perfect time for Clement to move into management after a near-perfect tutelage with Ancelotti, and Derby feels like the ideal club to start with.

Almost sounds too good to be true...

It's certainly a massive risk, and like I say not one I agree on. But...Sam Rush has done nothing wrong so far!

On another note...

What the hell is this?!?

Still Derby County head coach as it stands.

Probably won't be this time tomorrow. Clement would be a very good choice.

Seems he was asked to resign, which he refused according to the Mail. Wants to go with compensation.

Theirs so much more to this, surely the board wouldn't let him release players knowing they are going to get rid of him anyway? As much as I want him to stay for football reasons alone, he has done himself no favours at all since Christmas, without doubt he was leaving his options open by not committing earlier, but I think somethings happened this week for all this to happen now.

Newcastle want him, Derby don't .
Derby will NOT pay compensation for McClaren to drive up the A1 and sign on for Newcastle the next day.

Lot of discussions around this happening at the moment. He's engineered this himself (with his Agent of course), and he's trying to get us to sack him, so he pockets his compo, Newcastle will NOT pay any compensation to Derby either - this is the reason why he is still at the club, otherwise he would HAVE gone last night.

The Mirror saying that despite a 250k pay cut, Clement will be the highest paid manager in the Championship.

This just sounds more and more risky every day.

From what's being said, he's gone tonight. It's just a case of if we sack him or he resigns. He wants compensation, but we're telling him no because he never ruled out the Newcastle job, being one of the main factors towards our collapse. I can't blame our board, and they also have more power than Mac so it's a case of seeing what happens, but I expect him to go with no compensation.

McClaren still claiming it was the club ultimately making the decision and not him engineering a move to Newcastle, it's disappointing for Derby to lose him because of his name and ability to attract players, plus the fact he's on the whole done a very good job. Next appointment is so important, can't see Sam Allardyce dropping back into the Championship, maybe Mark Warburton would suit this current crop of players better.

It's pretty much guaranteed to be Paul Clement, it's been said for weeks that it has been him probably coming in, although I wouldn't mind either of the two you mentioned for sure.

Clement has never managed before has he? Why does everyone seem to think he's the next best thing?

He has never managed, but he won't technically be the manager, he'll be the head coach. We have no idea if he is the next best thing or not - Certainly hope he is ;)
It's been reported many times though that he will take over recently, so that's what everyone assumes.
