Fortunes have changed a bit, eh? How's it going? What went wrong with Keith Curle?
He never had 100% of the fans behind him, but he kept the majority on-board. The board kept him in the dark about whether he would be offered a new contract, him and some of the players, and eventually he just said he didn't want a contract offer (though he probably wasn't going to get one anyway).

Like a cheap whore we are flirting with 2 threads. The next few weeks should see where we finally settle down. It would be much more glamerous in the Play-off thread but I wouldn't be averse to being in here, with some decent company.

According to the experimental 361 guy, Grimsby and Cheltenham are red hot favourites for this Mid table trophy.

Well after last season our aim this was for mid table, and by all accounts our budget this season is lower mid table, that even tight Fenty himself has said its too low and not where he expected it to be.

So winning this coveted title will be quite an achievement!

As holders of this prestige title - back to back wins would be epic.

Not bad considering there's a thread on our forum stating we never have purely midtable seasons.

Would you prefer a win, lose or draw on Saturday to boost your title hopes?

I think a win would mean we're further away from relegation and also just as far away from promotion.

For example - let's assume Exeter (in 7th) win then we're still 13 points away from them. Then lets assume Macc lose (sorry Macc fans) then the gap there is 15 points with 21 still to play for.

We could win this in three games time by my reckoning. We'll lose at Crewe as we're poo away from home now, so that would put us (again assuming Exeter and Macc win and lose respectively) that with 18 points to play for we'll be 16 and 15 points away. A draw with Exeter would confirm on 41 games that we have nothing to play for.

I obviously haven't looked at what Grimsby would need to do.

Have you taken into account the fixture list though? Surely teams playing each other mean some will be picking up minimum points. So you may be playing for nothing before then

Why is a fan of the greatest team that league 2 has ever seen and is well on the way to automatic promotion posting in the mid-table thread?

Fantastic. I'm up for an argument as work is low this morning, and you clearly are.

I just missed you lot from over on the promotion thread, have you finally learnt your place? I was fascinated to finally see you lurking here where you belong for a change.

your perception is way off, I am not seeking an argument of any kind, least of all with you.

Technically we can still get promoted, but given the standard of our performances in the last 2 games at Stevenage and home to Port Vale, that seems highly unlikely.

Also, I would have to be incredibly stupid to 'lurk' in this thread by posting messages, that kind of defeats the purpose of lurking doesn't it? I'm more likely to be lurking in the promotion thread surely?

I like to think that this sentence shows I didn't look into it in too much detail.

Oh I'm not saying you haven't, you have - I just mean about teams at the bottom playing each other or teams on the edge of the play offs. If teams are then it means some will have to secure points so even if you win all your games, you might be ruled champions of this before you thought.

Yes, of course that's what you're looking for...

We can technically still get win this thread. So what's the problem with me being here just to ask a question to someone?

At least twice in the past you had questioned me as to why I was posting in the promotion thread when we were basically too shit to be promoted (can't and won't argue that point).

Yet it seems to be ok for you to post in a thread that you are unlikely to be involved in?That smacks of hypocrisy a little, don't you think?

I think we are playing Cheltenham toward the end of the season, it could be the play-off game for this coveted title! (we always lose at Whaddon Road - it's our bogey ground)

Difference between posting in a thread related to the thread - I was asking SI Robin a general question seeing if he went a step further with his maths or if it was just based off the face of points and games left.

When you and Grimsby post in the promotion thread it's because you're (at least were if not now) deluded enough to think it was realistic you'd get be there and fighting for a play off space. I'd have no issue with you posting on that thread (I quite often post on the relegation thread). It's a discussion forum and if it was kept on topic and kept to discussing teams actually in contention I'd have no problem with it..

I don't know where to post anymore. 5 points adrift at this late stage says I should stay here but 3 (2-0) wins on the bounce against decent opposition are getting people giddy.

How low is too low to make the play offs. Northampton down in 14th?

If Exeter beat Macclesfield on Tuesday, there’s a fair chance someone will win this next Saturday.

Looks like it is now between Grimsby and Cheltenham for the trophy, with Cheltenham odds on for it. Did they win it last year as well?

This is what was still possible before the last round of games. 10 teams could still mathematically go up or down.

For Stevenage, Crewe, Northampton, Cheltenham and Grimsby, promotion or relegation possibilities are both so small as to be effectively nonexistent, so I reckon the winner of the mid-table thread will be one of these.

Shame they don't produce these after every weekend as we'd just be able to check for the first team whose bar falls entirely in mid-table.

As someone said above I think us or Cheltenham will win it this weekend. I think if we get a point and yeovil/county lose, Exeter win then we can no longer go down or play offs.

May the most mediocre team win, Grimsby/Cheltenham. My money is on Grimsby winning the mid table title today.

We’re so close to this, nervous excitement is starting to build now, I’m bricking it that we bottle it and don’t manage to secure the shithouse 0-0 bore draw at Morecambe that could land us this title.
Come on boys you can do it, up the fucking Mariners!!! :woo:
