On the MK discussion, I always call them MK as the Dons thing has gone now. While I don't agree with how they came to exist and where they started, it's a long time ago. Lose the 'Dons' now IMHO. It only adds to the vitriol and you can stand on your own now without the distant Wimbledon link.

Some of the old Wimbledon fans who still attend games, do not want the Dons removed from our name and would not be happy if this is done. Winkleman has always said the decison to drop the Dons is down to the fans if they want it dropped or not. I will back the old Wimbeldon fans up and say i do not want the Dons removed, we will always be hated by some clubs (espically AFC Kingston) changing the name will not stop this so stuff them we are keeping the DONS! :)

It's not a long time ago and it's not a Wimbledon 'link'.

They stole Wimbledon's identity FFS and repackaged themselves.

The entire episode is a complete bollocks

We won't drop the Dons, there's only one dons fan who I've ever heard who wants it gone and that's Bacchus. It's down to the fans and id say 99% want to keep it. Also it doesn't matter what other fans think about it, in fact the more people who say we should drop the dons the more I want to keep it.

"We're keeping the dons! Get over it!"

A long time ago now? Do principles have a sell-by date? Passage of time doesn't make a wrong any more right. As long as they exist, they need to be treated as the disease that they are. The moment we stop reviling them is the moment grass-roots football accepts their model of ownership.

Keep it up please! The abuse we recieve only makes me want us to keep the Dons and give a massive two fingers to the people who want it gone. As BetterCallSaul said 'We're Keeping The Dons GET OVER IT!'

You disgust me. I still can't compute how anyone can have so little self-respect as to be seen to associate with that revolting brand.

Think the mods need to start a new section like TCR have, a section where a big Franchise debating thread can be started to go over the same old arguments, tedious rants and moral grandstanding of the last 10 years. You can steal the name boycott corner and bore everyone to tears over there. I'll stick to watching the football and talking about upcoming games.

Perhaps the same section could include a historical look back at the lives in football of Brian Hillier and Vince Farrar as well......

Every month there seems to be a match day thread of our that's stupidly long, usually it needs something controversial in the game though.

Jesus wept.

It's relevant discussion. A couple of Bristol City fans brought it up, I gave a counter-argument/opinion. This is how forums work.

And a betting scandal and what happened to the old Wimbledon aren't even comparable.

To be honest with you. I had real sympathy with what happened and I will put my hands up and say it shouldn't have happened. Winkleman also said that he would of done things different and not have done what he did but.... After the years of abuse and tip toeing around other clubs and fans trying to be polite and sympathetic I had enough of it. If I don't get respect for supporting my local club from the ages of 15 as my first club that's fine. If we drop the dons AFC will just think of something else they are unhappy about and start a petition on it. I don't care what you or any else thinks of us it's not gunna change and will only make my support stronger. I am on course for 46 games home and away this season but still get called a plastic fan by prem fans and my Luton supporting mates who go to 1-2 games a year! Sorry it disgusts you but after years of abuse I don't give a shit any more! :)

I thought the point of this thread was to discuss the match tomorrow. Therefore I don't believe it is relevant, and if people want to go and pick the bones over it for the millionth time then a nice shiny new thread would be appropriate. Section was probably a bit over the top.

And I wasn't saying they were comparable, just making the point that we all have things from history that could be discussed.

It is and if a couple of so-called football fans hadn't rolled out the 'I don't mind MK Dons' tripe, I probably wouldn't have got involved. However, the moment they did, discussion on the short history of MK Dons became relevant, so you're directing your frustration at the wrong person.

Unfortunately for you, there are people like me that won't ever forget what happened regarding the formation of your club. As I said earlier in the thread, it was wrong then and it's still wrong now. No passage of time will ever change that.

Bit of light relief.

If there's any problem with a frozen pitch tomorrow just get Cotterill into rant mode and they'll be enough hot air to thaw it out!

I see your first point, I guess my comment the other day regarding if we were 10th would we have seen this topic rear it's head is coming back. I suspect our performances this season have given people reason to start the debate again.

It's not unfortunate for me though, you and the angry bunch have no real say in what happens in football and can do nothing to stop the growth of MK Dons Football Club. I should probably laugh in a James Bond villian style now....

I have suffered zero abuse from anyone at a football game, home or away with MK, it's always an enjoyable experience. If the only hassle I can expect is from a faceless forum poster on my computer, I can live with that.

You don't really get it.

Nobody is really pissed with you, as fans, it's your club

Nudging towards a draw today. Going to be fantastic though.

Are City drinking in Fenny?

Bad news that Clem is coming to the game, he struggles to contain his sniping sadly. That being said when he is in town, we usually win.

"We're keeping the dons! Get over it!"

I'd make it more 10%, possibly more. I remember someone else putting this to the floor at a fans' forum before the original AFCW match in the FA Cup and putting forward a perfectly good argument that the suffix was outdated. Plenty of people shouted him down for it and I'm pretty sure that's why no-one else spoke up for that side of the argument - because it's too easy to be labelled a closet AFCW fan or someone who doesn't care about their own club. The antagonistic side of the argument too that clinging to the 'Dons' is a stick to beat our critics with doesn't help an open debate much either.

It's not many but I've came across a few who when questioned about it in an environment they won't be shouted down or accused of being a closet AFCW supporter that have agreed for their own reasons that 'Dons' is either outdated or they never really liked the sound of it in the first place.

No-ones banning anyone from calling us 'Dons' as a nickname that recognises that part of our history, but as part of the club's actual name, it's barely relevant anymore.

Great. Won't be missing him next year when we're on C5.

It is relevant, it's who we are. We have always been MK Dons. To change that would be to change ourselves. I would genuinely stop going if we dropped the Dons.

Plenty of excitement building but I hope this transfers to the atmosphere tomorrow. Quite often our larger away followings are a bit of a damp squid.

A nice 0-3 win would equalise the GD.

Everytime I have seen Clem at a game on the FL show, the team he is featuring lose, so please feature Bristol City...
